Dear NHTSA, Subject: Manufacturing transmission malfunction - TRAFFIC SAFETY Your attention is kindly requested. I own a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, diesel 2.0L, 170hp, 4x4, 9-speed [XXX] automatic. My car’s VIN is: [XXX]. On 21800km for the first time, while I was driving on the highway, a "service transmission" message came up on the dial, and after a while, the engine stopped moving the wheels
... and went into neutral. I stepped on the gas but it wouldn't move the wheels. If I was driving in the left lane, the only thing sure is that an accident would have occurred. The car's problem has to do with the 9-speed automatic gearbox. Immediately, I informed the official dealer of Jeep in Greece (Auto One). They told me that there was an official recall (S55) for this model. The car was repaired by the dealer on May 15thof 2017.However, after 500 km the problem was shown again and again. Every time the problem was shown I visited the specific dealer, but he didn't admit that the same problem might happen again. Because of this,I was forced to visit another service dealer, December 28th 2018 (24.300km), who confirmed in writing that the problem was unsolved. He advised me to go to the first dealer (Auto One). So, I went again to Auto One. They informed me that according to official guidelines from FCA/Jeep, any further repair concerning this problem should be paid for by the car owner without any guarantee. I found their attitude very offensive, so I preferred not to pay such a huge amount of money for something I was not responsible for. As I didn't use my car every day and the problem was not permanent I tried to find another way to solve the problem. Lately, the problem is shown very often, while many days the car does not start at all. The car today has only 41.000 kilometers. I found that there are many complaints from different areas of the world about the same issue, around 800.000 cars. Therefore Jeep after many complaints has INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.CRead more

Phantom breaking occurs predictably in the same spots along the NJ Garden State Parkway. Most certainly I have noticed it and can easily replicate it around the Toms River exit 80 in both south and north bound lanes. The vehicle will break suddenly and abruptly when enhanced autopilot or self-driving is engaged. It will come to a complete stop if allowed even when there is absolutely no other vehi

The fa24 engine for this car uses an RTV gasket to seal the oil pan. Subaru ended up using too much RTV sealant on this engine which ended up causing pieces of RTV to fall off inside of the oil pan. This can cause a clog in the oil pickup which may result in oil starvation for the engine. If this happens in traffic and the motor blows up, it could cause a collision. Subaru doesn't have any active
... service or recalls for this issue and it has been known to happen on the BRZ and Toyota 86 which both use the same engine. You can see online that others have dropped the oil pans on their fa24s and found RTV fluid in their oil pan. Recently, RallySport Direct on YoutTube release a video detailing them dropping the oil pan on a 22 WRX and found large pieces of RTV clogging the oil pickup. If Subaru doesn't address this issue, it can affect many vehicles on the road.Read more

11/21/22 - the car had a significant amount of water on the driver’s side floor. The windshield was leaking extensively. The headliner was saturated and the carpet in the car. The steering column was wet, and the floor mat was filled with water and frozen to the carpet. The touchscreen was not working, and the screen was completely black. Land Rover Hunt Valley confirmed the windshield leak. The
... headliner and carpet have been soaked and I believe water has damaged the electrical system because of the touchscreen intermittently not working. This vehicle has flood damage due to the significant water breach that occurred. The car is at risk for concealed mold and mildew. I am concerned about the long term effects water damage will have on the electrical system - electrical issues are extremely dangerous safety issues. Water damage will also cause rust and corrosion. The leaking windshield issue in Range Rover Evoque cars is a known problem to Jaguar Land Rover North America. A Technical Bulletin was issued about the problem on 11/6/18, and an After Sales Bulletin/Service Action N221 issued on 3/23/20. The leaking windshield issue is also discussed in many Range Rover Evoque online forums. There are many consumers who have leaking windshields in their Range Rover Evoques. Both the 2018 and 2020 bulletins instructed dealers “to HOLD affected new vehicles that are within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action. Affected vehicles already in the hands of customers should be updated at the next available opportunity." Jaguar Land Rover North America knew about the issue with leaking windshields, and they were still building cars with the defect and having their dealers sell the cars without disclosing the issue to buyers. I would not have purchased this car if the problem was disclosed. Extensive water damage inside a car is a serious safety issue. My car has been sitting at the dealer since 11/29/22Read more

In the last week my BMW's wires are chewed by the rodents twice. After doing some research, I found that BMW uses soy/oil based wire coatings or coverings that attract rodents and cause damage to the vehicle. I found many forums where this incident is reported or discussed, but no action has been taken by the BMW to replace the material of wires. With the wires chewed up the communication of diffe
... rent parts of the system becomes incommunicable. It is not able to communicate the pedestrian warning, collision warning, power steering wheel becomes hard and not easy to navigate, chassis stabilization error and many more errors pop up. BMW Dealership as well as BMW north America's response is that this is external forces that they do not have control and not covered in any warranty. My question is if all the systems start to malfunction because BMW installs wires that attract rodents then its a product failure that can lead to a catastrophe to happen. What happen if my BMW stops giving me collision warning while driving and lands up having a collision? Is it not a fault of improper product placed in my car? Do I have to wait for the catastrophe to happen to make BMW aware of the faulty wires?Read more

On December 17, 2022 I got back in my car from an earlier outing and had no brakes whatsoever. There was no warning, only a warning light afterwards that read something along the lines of "*** brake problem. Still safe to drive." The car is under warranty so I had it towed to Tacoma Land Rover. The brake situation was so dire that I sealed the key in an envelope, warning people there were no
... brakes. Long story but they determined that the brake failure was caused by a "dead auxiliary battery." I believe they said they replaced the battery but they might have recharged it since I wasn't asked to pay for a new one. If this had happened on the highway, I and others could have easily died. I'm afraid my safety is still at risk because there simply was no warning. I was fortunate that I was downtown late in the evening so there weren't many cars or pedestrians. I don't know if Land Rover had anyone inspect anything. There is no mention of it in the paperwork. I have asked them several times to change that "discharge" paperwork to reflect a "complete brake failure" but they do not reply. Paperwork currently reads something along the lines of, "...customer reports brake pedal is hard to depress..." and that's not the case at all.Read more

I am reporting this issue because after contacting Land Rover Headquarters and was told that they do not recognize this issue as a problem. To add to my complaint is the fact that a lawsuit was brought to the Tennessee District court for this very matter. There is an apparent defect on the windshield, mainly on the passenger side. I just confirmed that the windshield is slightly loose on the passe
... nger side, which leads to water leakage. The vehicle is a 2017 Land Rover Discovery 5 (L462), this problem presents a clear danger as any accident that the car is involved in could lead the vehicle's airbag, on the passenger side, ejecting the windshield - not to mention what would occur on a rollover. I have tried to reach management at both the US and UK offices and they are not available from what I am told. I would mention that these vehicles are a danger and we are told that the brand sells quality. However, it appears to be quite the opposite. I provided a Service Action (N221) detailing the matter in question but they have excluded the 2017 Land Rover from this Service Action. I also attached the lawsuit brought in the courts of Tennessee which mentioned that windshield subpar seal, which causes water leakage. If there is a rollover on Land Rovers L462 years 2017 to present, the windshield will not perform as designed and people may day.Read more

I recently purchased this 2016 Land Rover Discovery. Last weekend, I was driving the car. After turning into my parking lot, the car was unable to be driven. There was no forewarning or notice that something was going wrong. The car could only move straight forward and backward, the steering wheel would not turn the front wheels of the car. Upon closer inspection by a mechanic, it was determined t
... hat the bolts in the steering column sheered off. I do have pictures of the bolts I'll try to attach. Apparently, these bolts are aluminum and become weakened over time. I also found out this is a common problem in this year Land Rover Discovery which I learned after some research online. Thankfully, I was not driving at the time the incident occurred but this is clearly a safety hazard. I contacted Land Rover to see if they were replacing these bolts, they are not. They said that I should call the party who sold me the car but this is clearly an engineering problem. I have not taken the car off-road or done any kind of unusual driving. The car was maintained as shown by the CarFax report. Multiple representatives said it is not a recall, and they are technically correct on the Discovery model. There is a recall on the 2014-2016 Range Rovers for the exact same problem as the Discovery - the bolts in the steering column will sheer. Thankfully, no one was harmed in my case but if someone with one of these vehicles were to be on the interstate or at a high rate of speed and lost the entire ability to steer without warning, someone is going to be seriously injured or killed.Read more

First off, my VIN info on the first part of this form did not mention the my car is a convertible With that being said , the car was in my driveway in the rain ( I was working on the garage door so I parked it outside) Its the first time in been in the rain since I owned it. When I pulled it in from the rain I notes water sloshing in the back quarter cavities. My concern is submerged electrical
... , corrosion. The convertible has back sets and the floor boards are wet I know Land Rover is aware of the problem because they have a TECHNICAL BULLETIN about it (LTB01227NAS1) these letters and numbers was on top of the bulletin. I also went on line and noticed I was not the only Land Rover owner that has this problem. Because this is a convertible there is more reinforced steal on this car so corrosion after time can be a serious issue.
