The front light **What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?** The front passenger-side (right) headlight failed completely on my Land Rover Defender. The headlight assembly, including the bulb and/or associated electrical components, ceased functioning without any prior indication of a problem. The vehicle is available for inspection upon re
... quest. **How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?** The sudden loss of a front headlight significantly reduced visibility while driving at night, creating a serious safety hazard for myself, passengers, and other road users. Reduced lighting also diminishes the vehicle's visibility to oncoming traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists, increasing the risk of a collision. **Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?** Yes. The failure was confirmed by an authorized Land Rover dealership, which inspected the vehicle and verified that the front passenger-side headlight had failed. **Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others?** The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Land Rover dealership, which confirmed the headlight failure. No inspection has been conducted by police or insurance representatives at this time. **Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?** There were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, flickering, dimming, or any other symptoms prior to the failure. The headlight failed suddenly and without any advance warning, providing no opportunity to anticipate or respond to the malfunction before it occurred.Read more

2021 Land Rover Discovery 48V mild hybrid (MHEV). Recurring 12V system failures: repeated depleted/dead 12V batteries and no-start events. The 12V battery has failed and been replaced three times during my ownership (two documented at a franchised Land Rover dealer and an independent shop), plus a prior replacement under the previous owner per the vehicle history report. Symptoms: the vehicle wil
... l not start without a jump, repeated low-battery and SOS/telematics warnings, blank infotainment display, and full battery depletion after the vehicle sits unused for as little as 3 days, even with a battery maintainer in use. Dealer cloud diagnosis confirmed two contributing faults. First, elevated parasitic/quiescent current draw from control modules not entering proper sleep state, measured at 1.6A versus a normal value near 0.01A. Second, inadequate 12V charging. The dealer replaced the 12V and telematics backup batteries and applied software updates to multiple modules (including TCU and BCM), yet the failures recurred. This VIN has an open safety recall on MHEVs (NHTSA 26V-248, manufacturer D126) describing a DCDC converter internal fault that causes loss of 12V system charging and a "Stop Safely, Electrical Fault Detected" warning, with potential loss of motive power, coasting to a stop, and loss of exterior lighting. The remedy is not yet available. Safety risk: loss of 12V charging and battery depletion can cause stalling, loss of motive power in traffic, no-start and stranding, and loss of lighting, all of which increase crash risk. On one occasion the vehicle barely started after sitting at an airport lot, nearly leaving my family stranded. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by both a franchised dealer and an independent service center. The vehicle and the failed batteries are available for inspection on request. Warning messages first appeared before the current failure and have recurred across multiple battery replacements.Read more

VEHICLE: 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE, Original owner since February 2023. NATURE OF DEFECT: Persistent and unresolved coolant loss from the engine cooling system, with evidence suggesting leaked coolant is contacting hot engine components and creating a potential fire hazard. CHRONOLOGY: Beginning in February 2026, the vehicle began displaying recurring "low coolant" warnings on the ins
... trument cluster. The vehicle has been presented to an authorized Jaguar Land Rover dealership three times for warranty diagnosis and repair of this complaint. On each of the three visits, the dealership replaced a single cooling system component (a hose or O-ring). After each repair, the low coolant warning returned within approximately two weeks. The most recent repair, completed on May 26 2026, involved replacement of an O-ring on a lower coolant hose that had been previously serviced under JLR safety recall N785. The vehicle was returned to me on Thursday, May 28 2026. On Tuesday afternoon, June 2 2026 (approximately five days after the most recent repair), I detected a distinct burning odor from the engine compartment while the vehicle was operating. On Wednesday morning, June 3 2026, I visually inspected the coolant expansion tank and confirmed the coolant level had again dropped below the minimum mark. SAFETY CONCERN: The combination of recurring coolant loss and a burning odor originating from the engine compartment is consistent with coolant contacting hot engine components — most likely the turbocharger, exhaust manifold, or associated heat shielding. This is the same failure mode that prompted JLR safety recall N785 (NHTSA Campaign 23V-221) on 2019-2022 Range Rover Sport PHEV vehicles, in which leaking coolant onto the turbocharger heat shield was identified by the manufacturer as creating an increased risk of fire. My 2023 Range Rover Sport HSE is not currently included within the scope of recall N785Read more

My 2015 Land Rover Range Rover underwent recall-related suspension repair work at Land Rover Orlando. Shortly after the repair, I began hearing an extremely loud noise from the front of the vehicle. The noise was severe enough that I informed the dealership I was afraid to drive the vehicle. I sent videos of the noise to the dealership. After reviewing the videos, dealership personnel advised tha
... t the issue was likely related to the air strut assembly or control arm bushings. The vehicle was later inspected by an independent mechanic. During that inspection, it was discovered that the front brake caliper bracket mounting bolts were not properly secured. On the driver's side, mounting bolts were reportedly missing. On the passenger side, mounting bolts were found extremely loose and could be removed by hand. The mechanic documented the condition with photographs and video evidence. The brake caliper bracket is a critical brake system component, and I believe this condition created a significant safety risk. Had the bracket separated or shifted while driving, it could have resulted in loss of braking performance, vehicle damage, loss of vehicle control, a crash, serious injury, or death. The abnormal noise began shortly after the recall repair. I reported the issue to the dealership at that time. The condition was later confirmed by an independent mechanic. The vehicle is currently undergoing repair. I am submitting this complaint because the condition involved a critical brake component and occurred following recall-related service work.Read more

Shortly after purchase of the vehicle on November 26, 2021, the vehicle began experiencing repeated DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid), SCR, and DPF system failures, accompanied by dashboard warning indicators, drivability instability, reduced power warnings, and eventual shutdown conditions. The most serious safety concern is that when the DEF/emissions warning activates, the vehicle may enter reduced-p
... ower mode and ultimately become non-operable, creating a significant roadway safety hazard. The vehicle has repeatedly experienced conditions where it could lose power, become unreliable in traffic, or shut down unexpectedly after emissions-related warnings appeared. The vehicle required repeated repair attempts beginning almost immediately after delivery, including diagnostics and repairs involving: DEF system malfunction SCR/DPF restriction codes Reduced power warnings Fuel pressure-related faults Emissions-system failures Drivability instability Suspension-related concerns Despite multiple repair attempts by authorized facilities and warranty-related interventions, the same categories of failures continued to recur. This condition creates a serious safety concern because the vehicle can become unreliable or effectively inoperable while being driven, particularly after activation of emissions-related warning systems. The repeated loss-of-power and shutdown-related behavior creates risk during normal roadway operation. I am requesting review of the recurring emissions-system failure pattern, drivability instability, and operational shutdown behavior associated with this vehicle.Read more

Component/System: 48V Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) system including the DC/DC Converter (subject of active recall D126), Battery Energy Control Module (BECM), Telematics Control Unit (TCU), Battery Charge Control Module (BCCM), and Vehicle Immobilizer Module (VIM). All components are available for inspection upon request. What happened: My 2021 Range Rover Sport HSE MHEV (VIN: [XXX] ) exper
... ienced a complete no-start condition after sitting for approximately one week. Prior to towing the vehicle to Hendrick Jaguar Land Rover Charlotte, I performed a live data diagnostic using a Land Rover specific iCarsoft LR V3 diagnostic tool which confirmed the 48V hybrid battery at 17.86% state of charge critically below the minimum threshold required to authorize a start sequence. The TCU, BCCM, and VIM all showed not fitted simultaneously a known cascade effect of a critically depleted 48V MHEV system. Recall D126 for DC/DC Converter failure was confirmed on my vehicle. The DC/DC converter manages power transfer between the 48V and 12V systems. Its failure directly caused the 48V battery depletion and subsequent cascade module failures. Safety risk: The vehicle became completely immobile with no warning. The immobilizer went offline preventing the vehicle from starting, stranding the occupant in a parking lot. A vehicle that shuts down without warning and cannot be restarted poses a serious safety risk to the driver and other road users. Additionally the DC/DC converter failure affecting the MHEV system represents a risk of sudden loss of hybrid assist during driving. On the morning of [XXX] my wife was driving her 2025 Range Rover a short distance when an electrical fault came on the dash reading "stop safely Electrical fault detected". Upon turning into our driveway right after that warning came up, a variety of other warnings came on the dash including a transmission overheat warning. She was not aware that the park function no longer worked and that the car had completely lost all power and functions. The vehicle began rolling backwards due to the grade of the garage and she had to try to physically stop the vehicle or it would crush her between the door and garage. After attempting to physically stop it she realized she couldn't and jumped back in the car and applied the brakes. Her back was injured in the process of trying to hold the vehicle from rolling. She called me and had to sit in the vehicle for 20 minutes until I could get home to chock the wheels and get her out of the car. Zeigler Land Rover out of Schaumburg is where the vehicle was purchased new in November. When I reached out to them they claimed they never had this issue before. The dealership repeatedly asked my wife and I in seperate text messages "if we could describe where the smoke came from". No smoke was ever seen or reported from either of us. The supplied a Range Rover Sport loaner vehicle a few days after our Range Rover was picked up. They continued to tell me that they have never seen this issue before and are working with Land Rover to try and identify it. FIRST ISSUE-THIS REPORT - LOSS OF POWER / ELECTRICAL FAULT (4/10/26) On April 10, 2026, I backed out of a parking space into a drive lane in a commercial parking lot. As the vehicle was rolling, it suddenly lost power. I attempted to restart the vehicle, but it would not start. The vehicle continued rolling backward into the intersection. Two warning messages appeared on the dashboard -"Stop Safel

The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. When the vehicle was taken to the dealership, I was later told that no problem could be found. The dealership reportedly ran a computer diagnostic test & stated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. They performed routine maintenance, charged more than $900, & returned the vehicle to me without identifying or repairing the cause of the loss-of-power event. SECOND ISSUE – INTERMITTENT SENSOR FAILURES - The vehicle's front & rear sensors operate intermittently. I scheduled a service appointment for May 20, 2026, to address this issue, but I was forced to cancel a I did not have transportation available. THIRD ISSUE (reported to nhtsa.gov) BRAKE SLAMING/SUDDEN STOP (5/2/26) On 5/2/26, the vehicle experienced a brake slamming/sudden stop while I was driving through an intersection. Following this incident, I developed neck pain & headaches. The vehicle was towed to the dealership for a second time. During discussion with the dealership, I was informed that the April 10, 2026 service visit had been documented as relating to a "check engine" light. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Lane Keep Assist (LKA) system on my 2023 Range Rover Velar P250 has lost its active steering intervention capability following one or more Software Over The Air (SOTA) updates. The system no longer applies corrective steering torque to keep the vehicle within lane markings. The vehicle is availa
... ble for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Lane Keep Assist was a functional active safety system at the time of purchase, applying steering corrections to prevent unintended lane departure. That active intervention has been removed or disabled through a software update without my knowledge or consent. The vehicle now drifts across lane lines at highway speeds with no corrective action from the system. This increases the risk of a lane departure collision, particularly during momentary driver inattention — the exact scenario this system is designed to protect against. I was not notified that this safety capability would be altered or removed. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I brought the vehicle to my authorized Land Rover dealership under warranty. The dealer acknowledged the system behavior but told me it was "working as intended" under the current software version. They did not reproduce the original functionality or offer a remedy. The dealer did not dispute that the active steering correction is absent — they simply classified the current behavior as acceptable. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle was inspected by my authorized Land Rover dealership, which is a manufacturer-affiliated service center. No independent inspection has taken place. On [XXX], my 2017 Land Rover Range Rover HSE Td6 diesel (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered a complete, catastrophic engine failure without warning at approximately 70 mph on [XXX] . My wife and our two infant sons (ages [XXX] and [XXX] ) were passengers. There were no prior warning lights or symptoms. The engine stopped instantaneously, eliminating power steering and power brakes while I was overtaking a sem
... i-truck in the passing lane. We narrowly reached the shoulder safely. The odometer read 79,018 miles — inside both limits of the federally mandated 8-year/80,000-mile emissions warranty under 40 CFR §85.2103. The vehicle was 7 years old at time of failure. Hoehn Land Rover Carlsbad diagnosed complete engine failure caused by timing chain guide failure — a known defect pattern in the Ingenium diesel engine. The service manager stated failures like this "aren't that rare" with these engines. Repair estimate: $28,000–$30,000. Jaguar Land Rover North America (Case #[XXX]) denied the warranty claim entirely, offering $800, without ever evaluating the claim under the active federal emissions warranty. Their denial cited only the expired extended CPO warranty and a maintenance gap — neither of which constitutes valid grounds for denying an emissions warranty claim under 40 CFR §85.2103(d), as the manufacturer cannot demonstrate the maintenance gap caused a documented design defect. This failure pattern is documented in JLR Technical Service Bulletins LTB00735 and SSM74184. Land Rover Korea issued a recall for the same timing chain failure in 2020. No equivalent recall was issued in the United States for identical vehicles with identical engines. JLR has refused all requests for review or reconsideration for 24 months. Daytime running lights have both failed within the last 79 days. Passenger side failed at ~32660 miles o/a 05 Mar 26. It was replaced under warranty. Driver side failed around 36234 miles on 22 May 26 (5-days out of warranty). It is pending a shop appointment for replacement. This is not a “wear and tear” issue, it is a product quality control issue. It is not a simple plug and play re
... pair. It is a costly repair due to the design of the headlamp assembly. I have owned vehicles since 1988 and last changed a headlamp or taillight bulb in the early 2000’s and that was on a MY93 vehicle. I have also owned two other Land Rovers MY07 LR3 from 2008-2011 and MY14 LR4 from 2014-2022 and did not have to replace a single bulb in the vehicle. Point is that technology and quality have improved over the years and these headlamp/DRL assemblies should not fail with less than 36500 miles on the vehicle. This is a known issue that warrants further investigation. Jaguar Land Rover has issued a Special Service Message 75479 concerning the known issue with the Defender DRL. My DRLs failed in similar fashion described in the SSM. Inoperable DRL reduces safety due to lower visibility since they should operate during normal driving conditions. This issue is dangerous since there is no indication on the dashboard or other warning unless the headlights are manually inspected while the vehicle is operating. Additionally, inoperable DRL leads to a failed State vehicle safety inspections.Read more

I was driving home from work late at night in December 2025. A Signal came on that said pull to safety or something like that and then I lost power steering and brake control and my entire dash in my vehicle went pitch black. I was in the middle lane on route 290 and I was very lucky not to hit any other vehicles, but it was incredibly scary because I had no control of my vehicle and there were
... many cars and trucks on the road around me. I coasted off slowly to the side and I had to sit in 15° temperatures for an hour while I waited for AAA to come and tow my vehicle. They towed it to my home and were not able to get it off the ramp so they had to tow it to the dealership because the battery had died. The vehicle for a couple weeks before was slow to start, which I did not realize at the time was a sign that the battery was being drained. It was brought to the dealer and discovered that the DC DC converter and the BECM was the issue. My vehicle is open for inspection if you need it. The converter and BECM have been replaced after fighting with the dealer and with Landrover. Landrover is aware of the situation because they had to work with the dealer on their systems.Unfortunately, I am out almost $1000 because they made me pay for the replacement of the battery ( and the towing ) . Honestly I am having PTSD every time I drive past the area where I almost crashed. Landrover did not even want to accept responsibility, but the dealer did as we have purchased two vehicles from them that we also maintain meticulously.Read more
