The TFT screen with display to monitor speed, gas and all driver assist settings has become so saturated with condensation it is unreadable making it impossible to tell what speed I am going or what settings I have the driver assist controls set to.
Incident date: Oct 23, 2021
The Display screen that offers all the info for the motorcycle has condensation inside. The motorcycle is always garaged other than when it's being ridden. There is still condensation inside the display. Sometimes vital motorcycle information isn't visible, such as ABS mode, Traction control mode, speed, rpm, etc. Vehicle has not been inspected. The motorcycle's instrument cluster (TFT Display) often becomes obscured by internal condensation (fogging), sometimes remaining obscured for extended periods of time (i.e., 30 minutes). When this occurs, it is impossible to see critical operation/safety information such vehicle speed, traction, and ABS settings. It is also impossible to operate the menu to control these same settings. The resulti
... ng conditions make vehicle operation unsafe--especially when fogging occurs while operating the vehicle. Based on extensive forum searches, this issue is a design flaw that is well-known, but largely unaddressed by the manufacturer (KTM). Many owners of the same vehicle model experience this safety issue. My local dealership has "warrantied" (replaced) one display for this condensation issue, but refuses to further remedy the issue, even though the replacement display has the same problem.Read more

The vehicle can take 4-6 attempts to start when cold. Following the exact procedures in the Owner's Manual, or attempting other things like putting a hand over the exhaust to increase back pressure or slightly adding throttle during start makes no difference. This has the potential to be a serious issue as these vehicles are often taken far into the backcountry where there are no services. Sh

Gasoline had visibly leaked from the fuel filler cap on the plastic fuel tank. Liquid fuel and fuel vapors are freely exiting the tank. This presents an extreme fire risk. This motorcycle (your website calls it a 790 Adventure, but it's a 890 Adventure) has around 7000 miles on it. I purchased it new in March 2021. Ever since new, It should start with one light tap of the starter button. Instead, I have to hit the starter 3 or 4 times, and hold the throttle slightly open. Once it catches, and settles to an idle I can release the throttle. Usually, 3-4 seconds. I'm
... not very mechanically inclined, but it almost seems like it tries to start on only 1 of the 2 cylinders. It hesitates, and chugs very rough, before finally settling down. It isn't right. Admittedly, I haven't taken it to the dealer, beyond the initial service at around 700 miles. The dealer who serviced the bike said it should calm down with more miles. It hasn't. The closest KTM dealer is over 2 hrs away, so it isn't very convenient to have them look at something that an internet search tells me a dealer won't have a fix for. It just isn't worth my time and hassle since the bike runs great once started and warming up.Read more

My local dealer said yeah, we have seen it no real fix. The earlier 2019/2020 790 models had hard start issues but this new 2021 890 model is worse, more widespread and more severe— running on one cylinder at start up. I am a master mechanic in the auto industry and understand something is wrong. If ANYONE bought a new car and it took several times to start each morning and it ran rough for a little you would not accept it. Not only is it not great for customer satisfaction but could be hurting the engine and might be an excess EPA emission issue too. Switching to a slightly lower 89 (mid-grade) octane fuel mostly, but not completely, seems to fix the issue. However this fuel is not rocommended by the manufacturer due to the high compression ratio and I'm worried that it might cause damage in the long term. The bike was taken to the KTM dealer who performed a reset of the factory ECU; however, this did not help the issue at all.
