Safety Complaint: Engine Stall/Loss of Power at Highway Speeds – 2014 Chevy Equinox Incident Details: • The Failure: While driving, the vehicle suddenly stopped responding to the accelerator. I was forced to navigate through highway traffic to the shoulder with no engine power. Once stopped, the vehicle would not restart. • Warning Signs: Leading up to the event, the Check Engine light and
... Battery light flickered intermittently. • Diagnostic History: Prior to the breakdown, a technician replaced the starter and checked the battery, yet the Check Engine light remained on. The engine exhibited high RPMs (reaching 3,000+) during normal acceleration before the total failure. • Safety Risk: This defect caused a complete loss of propulsion in high-speed traffic, placing myself and my infant in immediate danger of a high-speed rear-end collision.Read more

My vehicle was leaking fluid, so I took it in and discovered that my vehicle’s ABS module failed in what was described to me as an “unusual way” at both the initial garage where I took it and, later, to the dealership, which was the only place that could do the actual repair. Some research showed that the failure matched the way this component failed in Kia and Hyundais that were recalled
... for this issue, which the dealership acknowledged. But my specific car wasn’t included in the recall, so I had to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket to repair it. Since then, I’ve been waiting for the recall to expand to include my vehicle so I could be reimbursed, because it seems very unlikely my vehicle didn’t get the same flawed system that was recalled in the other Kias and Hyundais. I’m told submitting this could help.Read more

On Nov 7, 2025, I took my 2018 Honda Accord (VIN: [XXX] ) to "Honda of Gainesville" (Dealer #208034). 1. Recall Negligence: The dealership performed unauthorized repairs on the vehicle's fuel system (alleged fuel injector failure). However, while the vehicle was in their service bay for fuel system work, they failed to perform or even disclose active NHTSA Safety Recall 23V-858 (Fuel Pump), which
... is open on this specific VIN. The dealership prioritized unauthorized, billable fuel repairs while knowingly releasing the vehicle with a mandatory federal safety defect still present in the fuel system. 2. Safety Coercion: Service Advisor [XXX] used safety fear tactics to coerce the unauthorized work, claiming the vehicle was entering "limp mode" and would become inoperable/dangerous to drive. Independent diagnostic analysis (OBD2) performed after the service revealed ZERO error codes and no history of the claimed failure. The dealership fabricated a safety hazard ("limp mode") to generate revenue while ignoring a real safety hazard (Recall 23V-858). Associated Investigations: A formal complaint regarding the unauthorized repairs has been filed with the Florida Dept. of Agriculture (Case #XXX-XXX). Hello Sir/Madam, While driving on Interstate I-75 at approximately 70 mph, the yellow check engine warning light suddenly illuminated. Immediately afterward, the vehicle began to shake violently, lose engine power, and run extremely rough. The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power, and pressing the accelerator pedal did not result in normal response or acceleration. The throttle input was s
... ignificantly reduced, making it difficult to maintain speed and safely control the vehicle. At highway speed and in heavy highway traffic, if we had not been able to safely exit the roadway, this loss of control could have put not only the occupants of this vehicle but also other drivers at serious risk. Fortunately, we were already in the exit lane, and a McDonald’s parking lot was located immediately off the exit. This allowed us to leave the highway quickly. Otherwise, this situation could have been extremely dangerous in active, heavy highway traffic. As the vehicle continued to shake, a strong smell of gasoline and a burning odor entered the cabin, raising concerns about a possible fire hazard. We safely stopped the vehicle in the McDonald’s parking lot and then shut the engine off due to the severity of the symptoms. After shutting the vehicle off, we attempted to restart it, but the engine would not start. The vehicle had to be towed to a Hyundai service center for inspection. The Hyundai service center later confirmed that the failure was caused by a faulty fuel injector, and they have changed all 4 injectors as I attached receipt from Hyundai This failure created a serious safety risk due to sudden loss of engine power, reduced accelerator response, severe shaking at highway speed, and fuel and burning odors inside the cabin. March 2024 just before hitting 100,000 miles I started having oil consumption issues. Current milage is 137,300 About 10,000 miles ago my check engine light came on. I took it to an auto parts store and it was reading bank 1 O2 sensor. I took it for an oil change and never scheduled for the sensor replacement due to life events. I took it in for another service About 5,000 miles ago. At around 2,
... 000 miles after the service the motor started stalling and sounded horrible. I took it to the dealership and it was 4.5 quarts low on oil. Took it back at 1,200 miles after top off and it was 2.5 quarts low. Started the new motor process which wasn't covered on the extended warranty due to manufactur defect. It cost me 500.00. Before the new motor was in my van started getting me stranded places. Motor wouldn't turn over at all. Got it started went to auto parts store and it was reading 4 bad sensors in bank 1 and 2 (O2 and air intake on the motor). Finally got it to KIA for the new motor told them about they sensors they were supposed to check/replace them when they put the new crate motor in. Picked my van up 3 days ago. I asked when they called if the engine light was off. They called me back several hours later and said yes. Picked it up at 5 pm 3 days ago. By 8am the next morning the engine light was back on. It's scheduled for 9am Monday. The van has now gotten me stranded 2 times in 3 days. Auto parts store ran the computer and the same 4 sensors are still showing bad. Sensors are in bank 1 and 2. The report on the old motor showed cylinder 1 and 2 oil fouling on the spark plugs (replaced at 100,000 miles by dealer) and excessive oil leakage in cylinder 1 and 2 into the crank case due to carbon stuck piston rings. I was told before the motor replacement that the KIA cares warranty may not cover these sensors. Even though the sensors are going out because they are gunked up with 7 quarts of oil their motor used and they didn't go out until the issue started.Read more

I’m submitting a complaint regarding a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure on my Jeep (VIN: [XXX] ), which affects the drivetrain and vehicle propulsion. On 11/26/2025, my vehicle was evaluated by Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Bowie after dashboard warnings “Service 4WD” and “Service Shifter” appeared. The dealership diagnosed a PTU failure, provided a $3,835 estimate, and stated the
... required part is on national backorder with no availability date. The dealership also stated that if/when the part does become available, it is limited and can only order one part each month. Due to this failure, the vehicle may lose partial or complete drivetrain power while driving, potentially rendering it inoperable or impairing control, creating a safety risk, especially at highway speeds. Because the replacement part is unavailable with no foreseeable availability date for any customer experiencing this issue, the vehicle cannot be repaired at this time. This leaves me to operate a vehicle with a known drivetrain defect or remove it from service indefinitely, leaving me without transportation. Following my visit, I located a Jeep PTU warranty extension letter covering failures for 8 years/150,000 miles, confirming manufacturer awareness. No safety recall has been issued, as confirmed on [XXX] . The PTU failure was inspected and confirmed by the dealership. The manufacturer has not performed a physical inspection. I contacted Jeep Case Management regarding warranty coverage and next steps; despite providing documentation, Jeep has not offered a repair solution or timeline. I was advised my case could not remain open unless the vehicle was left at the dealership indefinitely, which is not feasible. I'm submitting this complaint so NHTSA is aware of this PTU issue, warranty coverage without available repair parts, and absence of a recall. The vehicle can be inspected by NHTSA upon request. I'm available to provide documentation and can be contacted via email. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FORead more

We had to get it towed to the dealer (Tom Kadlec) . After diagnostic testing, we were told we needed a new engine. It cost us $8000 for a rebuilt engine. Because the vehicle was approaching an intersection at the bottom of the hill, a collision would have been unavoidable if the traffic signal had been red. The only way to stop the vehicle was to leave the roadway and pull into dirt, using terrain resistance to bring the vehicle to a stop. The vehicle became inoperable and required towing. This was not a degraded performance or warning condition; it was a complete loss of control over a moving vehicle. The failure placed the occupants, including young children, at immediate risk of serious injury or death. The vehicle was towed to North County Buick Cadillac GMC Service and remains under evaluation. A GM safety escalation case has been opened (GM Case #[XXX]). Due to the severity of this incident, trust in the vehicle’s safety is permanently lost INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

As per a consumer affairs article, hub assembly and wheel speed sensors should be covered by power train and/or relevant warranty that comes with Kia. In 2021, after an oil change, certain sensors on the dashboard started showing up, and the dealership informed me that the wheel speed sensor and hub assembly needs to be changed. Though the warranty should have automatically covered it, I had to re
... peatedly communicate with the Kia customer service center before it was authorized. Though this part is supposed to last for 80000-100000 miles, something similar happened after an oil change, and the diagnosis from local car service center again pointed to the same hub assembly for the same wheel. I ended up redoing this service. Should this be covered considering that it came with a certain lifetime warranty and was a replacement by the OEM? Is there a concern about quality as it happened twice well before the normal time frame, and should I be reimbursed and compensated for the inconvenience caused. Please clarify.
