I was driving on a busy road when the computer system completely stopped the engine from running and gave a message/notice appear, accompanied with an alarm stating "engine failure." I had to put the car in neutral and try to pull over to safety. This is the third time this has happened. The second time, the dealer repair shop ran a diagnostic test and told me that they reset the computer, and n
... othing was wrong mechanically. This time, it is sitting at the dealership waiting to have a diagnostic test done, but I was told it was likely just a computer issue. Prior to the engine being completely stopped, the car will jump gears while driving [i.e., from 1st to 5th while going 25 miles an hour and not accelerating], and the car feels like it is misfiring. The car is two years old and has 50,000 miles. It should not have any of these issues. A car should not be putting my life in danger while driving for no reason and without any effort to fix it.Read more

My Audi SUV hybrid hatchback opens and closes using a "foot assist" motion detection system. I believe other car manufacturers offer similar systems on some of their SUVs. The hatchback often opens and closes without me intending it to. When the hatch is open it has often come down on me, my family and my grandkids without warning and without braking. It has hit our heads hard in coming down and i
... t really did a number on my [XXX] grandson, causing some tears and leaving a good size bump and bruise afterwards. When I come around the back of the car to plug in the electric charger when I come home it often opens unintendedly and the opening hatch has often pinned me hard against the closed garage door. In checking I could not find anything in the manual about turning this feature off or controlling how it works. I spoke to 3 car dealerships and they all said it cant be turned off. Looking on line, there are other stories like mine of people getting hurt and also not finding any way to control the 'foot assist' feature. This may be a useful feature for some people but is an obvious safety hazard for me and others and it is surprising that there is no apparent way to disable or modify the feature. It should not be hard to do in my opinion and is long overdue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

I have a 2015 Toyota Highlander XLE. Last winter I began noticing a burning smell which I believed to be electrical inside the vehicle. I was able to determine it was the driver seat heater and the burning smell continued even with the toggle switch turned off. I stopped at a local Toyota dealership, Koch Toyota, who refused to show me which plug under the seat to unplug to disconnect power. They
... tried to insist that I drop the car off and let them check it. Due to past negative experiences with that Toyota dealership I refused. I was able to speak to my own mechanic who instructed me to remove the fuse for the driver's seat heater which I did and the smell stopped however the seat heater is not functioning now. Upon recent research online it appears this is a common problem especially in 2015 Toyota Highlanders. I found a couple other owners of the xle models on a website called Toyota Nation who experienced similar problems where their vehicles actually caught fire and melted the center consoles after the burning smell was misdiagnosed. I believe this is a huge safety concern and have recently filed a report with Toyota Corporate in hopes to get the issue rectified. There were no warning messages or lights that came on to advise that there was an issue.Read more

This particular vehicle exhibits a very strong, almost dash rattling judder when moving from the 1st to 2nd gearing ratio. This is especially dangerous in traffic and intersections where the vehicle is known to be in 1st or 2nd gear ratio, as Nissan likes to ratio out their CVT in software through the TCM to produce what feels like shifting from gear-to-gear as in a normal automatic transaxle. Wha
... t makes this situation extremely bad is that when entering an on-ramp to the interstate (I-20 for example) it will intermittently judder from 1st to 2nd and then no power. After the judder it takes another few seconds for the TCM to figure out what happened and engage maybe more valve body pressure? I'm not sure completely, but it's extremely unsafe to drive. The Altima/Rogue with the same transaxle and model year run was issued a TSB and subsequently a TCM update was issued to rectify the early shudder, but the Sentra did not receive that update. The TCM output data shows that when this shudder is happening that there is a loss in hydraulic pressure somewhere in the unit. As Nissan says you never are supposed to change the fluid, this creates a very serious issue not only with the transmission, but warranty as well. The safety risk to others is high on this one because this could cause major rear-end conditions and city driving collisions as the car is supposed to be accelerating but can't because the transaxle was slipping and not gaining speed with the rest of the vehicles as expected.Read more

After 10 years, the low beam headlights have become very dim to the point that it’s difficult and unsafe for myself and other drivers for me to drive this car at night, especially in the fog or rain. Apparently this won’t be fixed by simply replacing the bulbs and will be a costly repair at no fault of the owners. I agree with many others that this needs to be a recall fix.

While driving northbound on [XXX], south of Oklahoma City, at normal highway speed, at night, in the rain (on [XXX]), this EV lost all power to the wheels and the regenerative braking ceased to function. It appears that all flow of electrons from the batteries to the drive motors, and from the regenerative brakes to the batteries stopped. I still had dashboard lights, steering, and conventional
... brakes. I was able to safely coast to a stop on the highway shoulder. I set the parking brakes, put the “transmission” into “park”, and turned off the power button. I then restarted the car, and all was normal again. I continued my drive from Austin, TX, to Evergreen, CO with no additional incidents, arriving on [XXX]. This is reminiscent of the “blue screen of death” in old Microsoft desktop computers — fixed the problem by cycling the ON / OFF switch. Unfortunately, doing this when driving at 75 mph is less than ideal, and is a real potential safety problem. I never physically got into the vehicle to do the steps required to put the vehicle into reverse, i.e. putting my foot on the brake & depressing the transmission shift button. I contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle after the incident & explained what had happened. I spoke to Francisco, but he said there was nothing he could do unless I wanted to pay for diagnostics on the vehicle. I explained that the vehicle had clearly malfunctioned since I was not physically inside of the vehicle to put it into reverse. I asked him to document the incident, but he said he was unable to & suggested I contact Infiniti Consumer Affairs. I did that immediately after speaking with Francisco, & gave a detailed description of the incident. I was given a Case Number at that time. I called another Infiniti dealership to explain the situation to ask about diagnostics, & was informed that the car's computer would not give an error code for the car going into reverse. I called to speak to my dealership service advisor & was able to schedule a diagnostics appointment at no charge. I did an internet search & discovered it could be a linkage issue, which is a safety issue & the recommendation was for the vehicle to NOT be driven. I have since scheduled an inspection with Nissan Corp. but the rep was not receptive to my request for repairs. I supplied a video to the dealership, but Nissan said they did not have it.Read more

Two days ago, as I was turning left into my neighborhood, I suddenly lost control of my car's steering. Despite trying to correct it, the steering wouldn't respond, and the car collided with the curb. The impact was substantial, and the vehicle conti
... nued dragging along the curb until I was able to bring it to a complete stop. Upon inspection, I found that the passenger-side front wheel had been severely damaged, appearing crushed and warped from the impact. When I looked under the car, I noticed that the control arm was visibly damaged. It seemed bent or possibly broken, which I suspect contributed to my sudden loss of control over the steering. This experience has been unsettling, especially since the control arm is a critical part of the steering and suspension system. Afterward, I started researching similar incidents and found many posts and articles discussing similar cases. It seems that control arm damage or failure is not uncommon, particularly in situations involving rough terrain, curbs, or sudden impacts. Some articles also discuss the importance of regular inspections and the potential risks of worn-out control arms. I came across one particular article that sheds more light on these types of steering and suspension failures. I was in so much pain I unlocked the seatbelt and I opened my door in the middle of all the traffic stopped and I got out. I felt like I was going to faint. My husband was asking if I was bleeding anywhere. I was looking and saying no but I couldn't understand what just happened. I starting crying and got in the back seat. My husband asked if I wanted to go to the hospital and I said and tell them what! They will think I am crazy. Went to my daughters crying the whole way. She googled and ended up finding a problem with the seat belts. I then started looking as well and came across this man that was on a Ford forum and explained the exact same thing happened to him and his wife. I am so glad we were not going any faster because I don't know how we would have not had an accident. I am now scared of my car and using seatbelts. I called the dealer today and I have an appointment for Monday to get it all looked at. Very disturbing on so many levels.Read more

For the past year at least I've had check engine light come on and turn off before being able to get in for a diagnostic. Along with the entire engine shutting down while idling, parking, turning. Whole electrical system failure. Can't move the steering wheel. Have to restart the car and it takes a few tries. Sometimes the car will be off and will not start back up for a while.

Multiple instances of diesel engine emissions system parts and software failure. While driving, towing or not, the DIC would randomly display a message that the DEF level is low and reduced speed will occur in x-amount of miles and that mileage would then begin a visible countdown on the DIC, sometimes much more quickly than the actual speed I was traveling. In other words, it might at first state
... 500 miles remaining, but then be counting down from 500 miles by one mile per second of time, or faster. Each instance, I would park and attempt to refill the DEF tank, only to discover that the tank is already full or near full. My truck’s DEF tank has now been replaced twice under warranty with the latest tank being installed at only 35,460 miles on the odometer. During the latest replacement, the technician also diagnosed and replaced the electrical wiring harness related to the DEF tank, stating that one of the connector pins was not reading the required voltage. There was also a faulty diesel particulate sensor that was replaced under warranty. This emissions system is problematic, and it is unsafe to due to the drive ability restrictions it imposes due to faulty software and equipment. I use my truck to tow, and it would make for a very unsafe condition to have my vehicle’s speed become limited as if the vehicle ran out of fuel. Mountain grades. Two-lane highways. Passing through bad neighborhoods. Driving in uninhabited areas, sometimes late at night. Family of 6 in the vehicle. Unacceptable. General Motors Corp. must create a permanent and fail-safe fix for this emissions system and implement the parts. The emissions system warranty should be extended from 80k miles to Lifetime to cover the vehicles affected.Read more

I purchased a vehicle from a dealership that was aware of faulty airbags that was returned to dealership from another consumer. I discovered the issue a few months later when airbag warning light appeared and had it repaired which included steering wheel airbag, lower knee airbag and the seat belt in September. I did know it was involved in a accident prior to purchase since carfax states airbags
... did not deploy. A reporter approached me in September to inform me that my vehicle was involved in a story of said dealership selling cars with faulty airbags. The Volvo service advisor and myself did reach out the dealership seeking out financial assistance which they state since the vehicle passed a multi point inspection they are not liable to assist financially. The DA is aware of the situation and I am seeking damages that could have resulted in my bodily injury of lost of life.Read more
