There was an unknown problem with a fuel injector that resulted in the a vapor lock of the engine. This incident happened in traffic while idling at a stop light. There was zero stress on the engine at the time of the incident. This was a busy intersection, and I could have been pushed into oncoming traffic. There were no warning lights(check engine or otherwise) indicating and engine related fail
... ure or that an issue could be present in the fuel or engine systems. Upon trying to restart after what appeared to be a simple stall out, all indicator lights were on and every warning possible was present My local service center reviewed the truck and did confirm the resulting issues. They have also advised they would have expected such issues to trigger a warning light. I believe this was a catastrophic failure on Fords part and as a result has landed me as the consumer with concerns for the safety and a large bill for the work needed just to get it back on the road.Read more

Often, Service Managers like [XXX] from Kia University Dealerships will unlawfully charge you for diagnostic tests or other unrelated issues that should be free or try to persuade you to purchase repairs as a condition for completing the free recall work; however the repair is a standalone obligation, and the we should have the right to decline any additional, non-recall-related maintenance that
... the service department might recommend. Seven (7) months ago, I spoke with a Kia customer service agent that informed me that there may be another recall or another Product Improvement Campaign coming regarding my 2017 Kia Sorrento; therefore, please be on the lookout for issues with your vehicle and the engine. Therefore, when I took my vehicle to the Kia Dealership on University Drive “Which I had been going to since I purchased my vehicle” and informed them my engine light was just on, the gentlemen informed me that they needed to see the engine light on before they could input the Product Improvement Campaign/Recall. I ask the gentlemen why is this situation different, usually they just install the part and I just move out. Once again, I was informed they had to see the engine light on before they could install whatever they needed to install. Between the seven (7) months, I drove the vehicle to Kia and just before I got there, the engine light would go off, they still would not install whatever I was informed needed to be installed. I offered for them to take the vehicle and take it as long as you need to in order to get the engine light on, I was informed they did not have enough space in there shop. The following problems began 5 months ago, 8 months after purchase with about 4770 mileage and current mileage of about 7623: Multiple occurrences of Check Engine light coming on, sometimes setting DTC code, but often not setting code. Multiple occurrences of Crash Warning light coming on; It may have set a code or codes, but usually not. I think neither dealer was able to reproduce these 2 inter
... mittent problems. Engine light, so far, has not occurred since it was traced to faulty connectors. As far as I know, the Crash Warning light has not come on since the dealer reduced front camera sensitivity. Also, for the past 5 months there has been intermittent, engine miss, skipping or cut-out. As of this writing it still occurs while driving and will lurch or buck if it happens under acceleration This is not frequent, but it happens erratically and it may happen only once or a few times in one day or several days between. This has not set a DTC code as far as I know; I think the following may be related to the skipping. Once, while coming to a stop, the engine stopped or almost stopped; it bucked when it happened, but continued to run. All warning lights came on for a second or two, then went off, except 3 warning lights and the warning triangle. Although the engine was running, the tachometer and speedometer read Zero. The engine bucked as I slowly drove into a parking lot, then I restarted the engine; it seemed ok, then. About 3 weeks later, while driving at slow speed, just as I took my foot off the brake and was about to accelerate, the engine quit. When the engine quit, the audible Crash Alarm went off with a message saying the engine was not running, press the start button. I started the engine, it did not have normal power. I stopped, restarted the engine and it seemed ok. I have been to the dealer several times because of these problems; dealer is still troubleshooting the last incident. This could cause an accident, especially if it occurs at a higher speed.Read more

Initial Oil Change Visit: Brought leased vehicle under full warranty to the dealership for its first oil change. No issues were mentioned at this time. First Return (After 5 Minutes Driving): After leaving the dealership, warning lights and unusual sounds began within 5 minutes of driving. Returned immediately. The service team claimed the issue was due to the 'oil gun not being recalibrated' and
... that they had topped the oil off using a jug. This was later revealed to be a lie. Second Return (After Another 5 Minutes Driving): The same warning lights and noises returned after driving only 5 minutes. Returned again to the dealership. This time, they admitted that no oil had ever been put into the vehicle after the oil was drained. The service manager stated that the engine was 'cooked' and would need to be replaced. Admission by Service Manager: The service manager personally drove me to the rental car location. During this time, he admitted that the technician had simply forgotten to refill the oil after draining it, stating they had 'just gotten busy.' He had no explanation for why the dealership had lied during the first return visit. Safety Concerns: This negligence could have had catastrophic consequences. If the engine had blown up while driving, I could have crashed, potentially injuring or killing myself, my pregnant fiancée who was with me, and our unborn child. This was not just an inconvenience but a severe, reckless breach of safety and trust. Dealer’s Resolution: The dealership later acknowledged fault and offered to replace the engine with a new one. However, given the severity of the negligence and the safety risk, we refused and ultimately walked away from the lease when they would not provide an equivalent vehicle under the same terms. They instead paid off the remaining lease balance ($42,286.94). -Sent certifed formal demand letters to dealer and manufacturer -sent follow up emails to both -have not received response to my complaints.Read more

2018 Mazda CX-5, 2.5L Naturally Aspirated Engine The vehicle has been diagnosed with a leak from the cylinder head cover, resulting in engine oil dripping directly onto the exhaust manifold. This issue causes noticeable smoke and a strong burning oil odor inside the cabin while the engine is running. This defect presents multiple serious safety concerns: 1) Health hazard due to prolonged exposure
... to burning oil fumes inside the vehicle. 2) Fire risk from oil contacting hot engine components. 3) Potential engine failure, which could lead to vehicle stalling or loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash and possible loss of life. Mazda issued Technical Service Bulletin TSB #SA-031-21, which introduced a redesigned cylinder head for 2018–2019 CX-5 models. The release of this TSB indicates Mazda’s awareness of the underlying design flaw. There is substantial evidence, including numerous owner reports, that this is a widespread issue affecting these model years. The defect is not related to vehicle mileage or user negligence. Mazda should be held fully accountable and take corrective action by issuing a formal safety recall or offering an extended warranty to affected owners. Immediate attention to this matter is necessary to protect consumer safety and prevent future incidents.Read more

Honda Odyssey Idle Stop system failure Vehicle: 2020 Honda Odyssey (Elite) Incident description: While driving, the vehicle's "Idle Stop" system engaged as I came to a complete stop at [e.g., a traffic light, intersection, stop sign]. The engine shut off as designed, but failed to restart automatically when I released the brake pedal. This left my vehicle stalled and disabled in the middle of [e.
... g., an intersection, a lane of traffic] with no forward power. I was scared as there were lots of cars behind me in the intersection. This has happened over a dozen times. Safety risk: This failure created an immediate and dangerous safety hazard. My vehicle was a risk for being rear-ended by traffic from behind, and my family was stranded in a vulnerable position. The vehicle was unable to move out of harm's way, and I had to put the vehicle in park and manually restart the engine. This is unacceptable for a system designed to work seamlessly and automatically. Additional information: This is not an isolated incident. The auto start-stop failure has occurred multiple times since March 2025. The system failure has put me and my passengers in a position of significant risk multiple times. Failed component: The vehicle's "Auto Idle Stop" (AIS) system, which failed to restart the engine after it was automatically shut off. Resolution: An immediate and permanent recall is necessary to address this dangerous defect. Existing service bulletins have not corrected the problem. I urge the NHTSA to require Honda to provide an effective, long-term solution to ensure the safety of Odyssey owners.Read more

I own a 2013 BMW X3 equipped with the N20 engine. After approximately 17 months of ownership and only around 11,000 miles of normal driving, the vehicle suffered a sudden and complete engine failure without warning. The independent diagnostic determined the failure was due to a timing chain and oil pump drive chain defect, which is a well-documented issue in BMW N20 engines. This defect has been a
... cknowledged by BMW through Technical Service Bulletin SI B11 03 17 and the national class action settlement Bang v. BMW of North America. The defect causes premature wear and eventual breakage of the timing chain components, resulting in catastrophic engine damage. My vehicle is now inoperable, and the cost to repair exceeds $7,500 — far more than the vehicle’s value. There were no prior warning lights, noises, or messages. This sudden engine failure creates a safety risk, as the vehicle could lose power unexpectedly while driving. No authorized BMW dealer had ever performed timing chain replacement on this vehicle, and the issue was not disclosed at the time of sale. I am filing this complaint so NHTSA is aware of the widespread nature and serious safety implications of this defect.Read more
