Engine failure occurred on interstate. Car was jerking and smoke coming from the hood and exhaust while engine was giving out. Hyundai dealership confirmed something blew up within the engine and blew a hole out the side of it. Check engine light came on about 2 weeks prior notified Hyundai dealership as soon as this happened and they stated I had to wait 2 weeks to have the vehicle checked out.

I’m already paying off the $800 for this starter repair that I didn’t really need :/ and I’m still playing for a car note on a car I’m not even driving! (PHEV) Has been occurring since purchase but very intermittent. Could not reproduce until enough trial and error when it did occur that I could reliably reproduce it. During my own testing and diagnostic is how I found it can roll freely in the wrong directions and is much more dangerous than just shaking was. Description: Within the first few minutes of the vehicle being turned on it can shudder against the brakes when stopped. It can stop responding to throttle inputs and roll freely in directions other than the selected gear while throttle input is ignored. It will start responding again after some time, I dont know what makes it start responding again. Does not show errors or messages. Reproduce: Plug in car, let it charge all the way to 100%. Unplug and immediately start car, move forward or backward a few feet at a time. Shaking against brakes will start, and at that time if you let off brakes and attempt to move car it can shake loose of clutch and roll freely. I was frantic and very emotionally distressed by this incident because all the maintenance on the car was up to date and there was no check engine light on in the car prior to this incident. The unexpected and decelleration and inability to compensate on the highway was very unsafe. I am submitting this complaint regarding a 2015 BMW 435xi (N55 engine, ~79,000 miles) that suffered a sudden and complete engine failure due to the oil pump drive chain. While driving at highway speed, the vehicle experienced an instant loss of oil pressure and engine seizure without any warning lights or prior symptoms. I barely managed to steer the car to the shoulder and avoid being struck by
... surrounding traffic. This was a serious safety hazard, as the loss of power and steering control occurred in active highway conditions. Inspection revealed a catastrophic internal failure of the oil pump drive chain. This is not related to neglect, lack of maintenance, or external damage—the vehicle had received an oil service at a BMW dealership only two months prior. Importantly, the N55 engine uses the same oil pump chain and guide architecture as BMW’s N20/N26 4-cylinder engines. BMW has already acknowledged premature failures of this system in those engines and provided extended warranty coverage. The fact that this defect is now occurring in the N55 platform demonstrates a broader systemic issue. This failure at relatively low mileage creates a significant safety risk to drivers and passengers, as well as other vehicles on the road. A sudden seizure of the engine at highway speed leaves little to no opportunity to maneuver safely and avoid collisions. I urge the agency to investigate this issue as a potential design defect affecting the N55 engine family. BMW should be required to provide recall or warranty remedies similar to those extended for the N20/N26 engines. Thank you for your attention to this serious safety matter.Read more

... and distance from the cars ahead) and lane driving assist (driving assist to keep the vehicle centered in the lane) the car issues far too many false warnings telling the driver to "keep your eyes on the road". While in HDA, the car monitors the driver's eyes and head position using a driver facing camera, part of the FAW (Forward Attention Warning system) or DDMS (Direct Driver Monitoring System) to assure the driver is focused on the road ahead. However, in the 2025 Hyundai, this system is so flawed that the car is practically undrivable in the HDA mode with cruise control and lane driving assist engaged issuing too many false warnings, that the driver is not focusing on the road. The multiple warnings, in some cases every few seconds, is extremely distracting taking the driver's attention away from safely controlling the vehicle. The system which is intended to make the vehicle safer is instead such a distraction it makes the car unsafe due to the constant false warnings requiring driver attention to address them and away from safely operating the vehicle.Read more

As this is a recall-related safety defect that has not been properly resolved , I am formally requesting that Polestar cover the cost of shipping my vehicle to the nearest mainland service center capable of performing the necessary diagnostics and repair. 2022 Honda Ridgeline with 22,000 miles failed to auto restart at a traffic light. Driver had to manually restart the vehicle. Other drivers were forced to drive around at the intersection. No error codes were present on OBD2 connector.
