Originally, the rear axle on our trailer failed last year in July of 2020. We had an axle that was cambered in and that resulted in abnormal wear on our rear tires. Because of the abnormal wear, we had a blowout of our left tire on the rear axle while traveling on Interstate 84 in Oregon. After eight months, the dealer, Camping World/Keystone, replaced the axle. Upon receiving the trailer back i
... n April from the dealer, we noticed it was leaning to the right about three inches. Since we were unaware of the real issue, we went on our trip. We have had to level the trailer with leveling blocks at our campsite each time on the right side. We haven't had to do that in the past. Our safety and the safety of others were put at risk because the leaf spring could have broken, pulled the rear axle back, and steered us in an unexpected direction. This could result in us going into other vehicles on the road. Today, we had it inspected by two companies: The Spring Works as well as Bob Scott RV respectively in Grand Junction, Colorado. They both confirmed that we had a bad leaf spring on the right rear axle. Additionally, Bryan Dubose, at The Spring Works stated that the left rear leaf spring has been compromised because of the other faulty one. There were no warning signs other than the trailer leaning to the right when viewed from the rear. The symptom of the trailer leaning to the right first appeared when Camping World had replaced the defective rear axle and returned it to us in April of 2021.Read more

We took our 2020 Montana High Country 5th wheel to the dealer for routine preventative maintenance. When they were repacking the bearings, they found 3 of the 4 seals were blown and there was grease on the backing plates and pads. This 5th wheel had less than 1700 miles on it. The technician said there was no way this should have happened with less than 1700 miles. Repacking is recommended eve
... ry 12,000 miles according to Keystone. We bought it in August 2019; this maintenance was done in Mar 2021. I contacted Keystone and they denied reimbursement for the repair and parts. They said it wasn't deemed a warranty issue and said may have been done by whoever overpacked them. This was the first time we had them repacked. No one had touched the wheels (except for us adding air to the tires) since we owned the 5th wheel. This had to have been done at the factory whether it was at the Keystone factory or at the chassis factory (possibly Lippert?). If we had been driving up and down mountains, we could have lost breaking or they could have caught on fire. I believe this is a safety issue and hopefully there is no others out there like ours. I thank God we took it in for the routine maintenance. Photos were provided by repair technician at Walnut Ridge RV in New Castle IN. I just found out I should report this, so this is why it wasn't reported in March.Read more

I WAS IN MY RV AT APPROXIMATELY 10AM IN THE MORNING, AT A CAMPGROUND. I NOTICED A SMELL OF ELECTRICAL BURNING IN THE LIVING AREA OF THE RV. IT WAS A COLD MORNING, AND HAD OUR ELECTRIC FIRE PLACE ON AT THE TIME. WE ALSO HAD OUR HEAT STRIP IN OUR ROOF TOP AIR CONDITIONER ON AS WELL. THE BURNING SMELL BECAME STRONGER AS THE MORNING WENT ON. I THEN BEGAN TO INVESTIGATE WHERE THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM.
... IT APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM OUR FIREPLACE, WE THEN REMOVED IT PLACING IT OUTSIDE. I PLUGGED THE UNIT IN OUTSIDE TO SEE IF THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM THE FIREPLACE. THERE WAS NO SMELL FROM THE FIREPLACE. I WENT BACK IN TO THE CAMPER, THE SMELL WAS STILL PRESENT. I INVESTIGATED FURTHER, AND THE SMELL APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM THE UNDER BELLY COMPARTMENT. AFTER CLEARING OUT THE UNDER BELLY STORAGE, THE RV MECHANIC CAME OVER AND SMELLED THE ELECTRICAL SMELL. HE ASKED ME TO PLUG IN EVERYTHING THAT WAS ON AT THE TIME, WHEN I FIRST SMELLED THE BURNING SMELL. THE FIREPLACE WAS BROUGHT BACK INTO THE RV, AND PLUGGED BACK IN TO THE OUTLET. THE RV MECHANIC WENT INTO THE UNDERBELLY AND WAS SEARCH FOR THE SOURCE OF THE SMELL. UPON DOING SO, HE HAD BUMPED THE MAIN POWER FEED WIRE COMING INTO THE CAMPER. THIS CAUSED THE LIGHTS ON THE FIREPLACE TO FLICKER OFF AND ON. I NOTIFIED THAT WHAT EVER HE HAD JUST DONE CAUSED THE LIGHTS TO FLICKER. HE DID THIS AGAIN CAUSING THE LIGHT TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN. THIS APPEARED TO BE THE PROBLEM THE MECHANIC WAS CONVINCED. HE SHUT THE POWER OFF, AND PULLED THE PLUG OUT. UPON TAKING THE PLUG OUT, HE FOUND THAT THE SIDE OF THE PLUG COVER WAS STARTING TO BURN. THE MECHANIC, WENT TO LOOSEN THE SCREWS FOUR THE FOUR WIRES CONNECTING THE 220 VOLT 50AMP SERVICE, AND WAS ABLE TO PULLED THE WIRES OUT WITHOUT HAVING TO UNSCREW ALL THE SCREWS. HE STATED THAT NONE OF THE HOLD SCREWS FOR THE CONNECTIONS WERE NEVER TIGHTEN. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS FIRE HAZARD THANKS.Read more

THE DAMAGE OCCURRED SOME TIME AGO BASED ON RUST ON THE BROKEN I-BEAM PIECES. I SPOKE WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER WHO BOUGHT IT NEW, NEVER HAD ANY EVENT THAT CAUSED IT AND HE WAS UNAWARE OF THE DAMAGE. HOWEVER THEY HAD JUST HAD A BLOW-OUT ON THEIR LAST TRIP ON ONE OF THE REAR TIRES. THE CURRENT SPARE TIRE HAS VERY OBVIOUS UNEVEN WEAR ON ONE SIDE, I ASSUME WAS DUE TO AXLE MISALIGNMENT SINCE ONE HANGER NOT ATTACHED. FAILED SPRING HANGER/I-BEAM IS RUBBING ON A BLACK IRON LP GAS LINE. THERE IS NO REINFORCEMENT ABOVE THE SPRING HANGERS TO STOP ANY TWISTING MOTION THAT WOULD FATIGUE THE I-BEAM. LOOKS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE AS IN NHTSA RECALL NO. : 17V-611.Read more

GEICO IS REFUSING COVERAGE ON AN INCIDENT WHICH OCCURRED DURING TRANSPORT (IN MOTION, HWY 1-15 NORTHBOUND, NORTH OF LAS VEGAS, NV) OF MY RV. GEICO IS ONLY ABLE TO DENY THE CLAIM DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE IF THE TRAILER/RV FAILS WHILE STORED OR NOT BEING USED. THE RV WAS BEING TRANSPORTED AT THE TIME OF THE LOSS AND WAS DEEMED ROAD-WORTHY BY A SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT PRIOR TO THE LOSS. THE TIRE COUL
... D HAVE FAILED DUE TO MANY UNKNOWN VARIABLES, ALL OF WHICH ARE COVERED UNDER MY POLICY. IF THE TIRE SIMPLY FAILED DURING TRANSPORT, THEY MIGHT NOT COVER THE TIRE, BUT THE ENSUING DAMAGE WOULD BE COVERED. SUCH PROBABILITIES AS POTHOLES, DEBRIS, OR OTHER CONDITIONS WOULD REQUIRE GEICO TO COVER THE TIRE AND THE ENSUING DAMAGE. EITHER WAY, THE REFUSAL TO COVER THE INCIDENT IN TRANSPORT IS NOT LEGAL. GEICO CLAIMS A TIRE WAS NOT MAINTAINED. THE TIRES ARE 4 YEARS OLD, HAS LESS THAN LESS THAN 1500 MILES ON THEM, HIGHLY MAINTAINED SINCE PURCHASE 09-07-16, THE DATE TIRES WERE PURCHASED, WITH ONLY 2 TIRES ON THE SAME SIDE HAVING ISSUES OUT OF 4 TIRES. ONE OF THE PEOPLE PREPPING THE VEHICLE THE EVENING BEFORE THIS TRANSPORT WAS A VETERAN PROFESSIONAL RV TRANSPORTER, FORMER DEALERSHIP MANAGER FOR 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, AND SERVICE WRITER. HIS EXPERTISE IS BEYOND NORMAL INSPECTION FOR TRANSPORT OF RV'S/TRAILERS. THE TRANSPORTATION DRIVER IS A VETERAN RV/TRAILER HAULER 60+ YEARS TOWING AND OWNS/HAS OWNED MULTIPLE TRAILERS CONCURRENTLY FOR 40+ YEARS. THE DRIVER HAS HAD MULTIPLE CROSS-COUNTRY TRIPS INCLUDING TRANSPORTING OF THIS EXACT RV FROM NEW YORK TO ARIZONA 3 YEARS PRIOR WHEN THE FULL SET OF NEW TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN MISSOURI (ON 09-07-16 AT JOPLIN TIRE AND AUTO). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 KEYSTONE BULLET CROSSFIRE TRAVEL TRAILER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEMOTIC WATER HEATER CAUGHT ON FIRE, BURNING ALL THE ELECTRIC WIRES COMPLETELY. THE FIRE EVENTUALLY BURNED OUT ON ITS OWN. THE RV WAS TAKEN TO BISH'S RV - BOISE AREA (1300 W OVERLAND RD, MERIDIAN, ID 83642) WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE GAS PRESSURE WAS LOW, WHICH THEY LINKED TO THE FAILURE. THE CONT
... ACT CALLED THE MAKER OF THE WATER HEATER AND THEY BLAMED THE FIRE ON THE PROPANE TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 0.
