ON THE RETURN TRIP FRIDAY OCT 5TH, JUST NORTH OF ATLANTA WE HAD A BLOWOUT ON ONE OF THE OEM GOODYEAR MARATHON TIRES, DRIVER SIDE REAR. *TR THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC ON NEWLY BLACKTOPPED ROAD WITH CRUISE CONTROL. BOOM! TIRE AND DEBRIS WENT EVERYWHERE. THE TIRE WAS SHREDDED AND WE HAD AAA/RV C
... OME OUT AND PUT ON THE SPARE. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED ALL OF THE TIRE PRESSURES (81-82LBS) SO THEY WERE ALL WITHIN SPEC. I CHECKED THEM BEFORE WE LEFT CALHOUN THE NEXT MORNING MAKING SURE THEY WERE ALL 80LBS. WE LIMPED HOME ON SATURDAY. THE TIRE WAS A GOODYEAR 235/80R16, MFG CODE: OH UN 1LHR 3608. THE TIRE WAS RETURNED TO GOODYEAR PER THEIR INSTRUCTIONS. BOTH OF THE PLASTIC FENDERS, THE SKIRT UNDER THE WATER HEATER, REAR SKIRT WERE DAMAGED AND THE BOTTOM OF THE TRAILER. THE FACTORY TREDIT T6 WHEELS HAVE A CASTING STAMP OF 3,042, BUT A STICKER ON THE RIM INDICATING 3,750 LBS @ 110 PSI. (AT LEAST 3,500 LBS WOULD BE REQUIRED TO MEET THE GAWR AND GVWR). WITHOUT THE STICKER RATING, OUR STAMPED 3,042 WHEELS ARE 500LBS UNDER-RATED FOR THE LOAD, OR 2,000 LBS OVERLOADED FOR THE GVWR AS DELIVERED FROM THE FACTORY, NOT TO MENTION THAT THE FACTORY TIRES EXCEEDED THE LOAD CAPACITY ON THE WHEELS AS WELL. THERE WERE NO NOTIFICATIONS OR RECALLS RECEIVED ABOUT CHANGES IN THE WHEEL RATING, AND WE ARE ORIGINAL OWNERS. THERE IS NO MENTION OF THE DISCREPANCY ON THE KEYSTONE WEBSITE UNDER NOTIFICATIONS AND RECALLS, EVEN THOUGH THIS ISSUE EXTENDED THROUGH AT LEAST ONE MODEL YEAR, POSSIBLY TWO. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THE WAY THE STICKER WAS HANDLED. OUR MODEL MONTANA WAS BUILT WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH THAT KEYSTONE/MONTANA SWITCHED TO 7,000 LB CAPACITY AXLES, YET THE WHEELS WERE THE SAME TREDIT T6 USED SINCE 2005 ON THE 6,000 LB CAPACITY AXLES. TOLD US THAT THE RV WAS A BRING-BACK, NEVER EVEN USED (WHICH, LOOKING BACK ON IT, MAKES ME WONDER IF THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE UNIT FROM THE START). IN AUGUST 2010, WE TOOK IT ON A TRIP TO VIRGINIA. WE PLUGGED IN THE 50 AMP SERVICE AND ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER, THE UNIT CAUGHT FIRE IN THE STORAGE COMPART

WE SMELLED ELECTRICAL FIRE IN THE UNIT AND AGAIN, THANKFULLY, MY HUSBAND FOUND THE FIRE BEFORE ANY DAMAGE OCCURRED. WE AGAIN CALLED KEYSTONE RV, WHO DRUG THEIR FEET IN OFFERING ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE. THIS TIME, WE WERE ONLY A MILE OR SO FROM WHERE WE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE UNIT (CAMPING WORLD). AFTER MULTIPLE PHONE CALLS AND ARGUMENTS WITH KEYSTONE AND CAMPING WORLD, A TECH CAME TO OUR CAMPSITE AND FOUND THAT KEYSTONE RV HAD REPLACED THE ORIGINAL FAULTY TRANSFER SWITCH WITH THE SAME FAULTY TRANSFER SWITCH.
