I WAS ABLE TO HAVE BOTH TURN INDICATORS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT OUR LOCAL KAWASAKI DEALERSHIP (7/18/08). I WAS TOLD THAT THE INDICATORS WOULD ONLY BE REPLACED UNDER THE ONE YEAR MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. NOW THAT I'M INTO MY EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD (BEGAN 7/28/08), ITEMS SUCH AS THESE ARE NOT COVERED ANY LONGER (ONLY MAJOR MECHANICAL ISSUES ARE NOW COVERED). REPLACING THE FAULTY RUBBER IS NOT AN EASY TASK AS KAWASAKI DOES NOT HAVE A PART NUMBER FOR THIS PIECE. THE ENTIRE TURN SIGNAL ASSEMBLY MUST BE ORDERED WHICH RUNS CLOSE TO $50 EACH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I'M HOPING KAWASAKI DECIDES TO RECALL THE 2008 KLR650 MOTORCYCLES TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TURN INDICATORS. THIS DEFECT LEADS TO FUEL LEAKING OUT OF THE GAS TANK AND INTO THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT OF THE MOTORCYCLE, THEN DOWN THE SIDE OF THE COVERPLATES BENEATH THE SEAT IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE REAR EXHAUST HEADER. THIS DEFECT POSES A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD DURING OPERATION OR STARTING OF THE VEHICLE, ALSO AS THIS VEHICLE IS STORED INSIDE IT COULD PRODUCE A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD WITHIN THE GARAGE THAT COULD SPREAD TO THE REST OF THE HOUSE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 KAWASAKI KLR650. HE WAS DRIVING 55MPH ON HIS MOTORCYCLE AND IT SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIRES WERE RUBBING UNDERNEATH THE GAS TANK. WHEN THE WIRES RUBBED TOGETHER THEY BLEW A FUSE AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF. THE MECHANIC HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL AT REPAIRING THE MOTORCYCLE FOR TWO WEEKS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,600.
