I had pulled the vehicle into my garage. When I tried to shut the car off the car it would not shut off. In fact many components of the car seem to be completely out of sync. The car would not go into any gear. I could not shut the car off. No matter what I did the car just kept running. I finally more or less gave up and just let it keep running for a couple of hours. When I went back into the ga
... rage to check what was happening the car had finally stopped running. At that point I had call a towing service and arranged to have the vehicle taken to Autonation Jeep Chrysler the next morning where I had purchased the vehicle. This was a newly purchased vehicle and only had a total of 78 miles on it. Surprisingly the next morning I went into the garage to check on what was happening with the vehicle and to my surprise the vehicle had stopped running. I then disconnected The 12 Volt battery and left it disconnected for an hour or two. After this time I reconnected the battery. I again attempted to start the vehicle and surprisingly the vehicle started up and all functions in the car seem to be performing normally. At this point I drove the car about a mile to the Autonation Jeep Chrysler dealership and had conversation with service technician. Surprisingly he told me that Jeep has had this problem with other vehicles and the solution is to disconnect the 12 Volt battery for 20 or 30 minutes and then reconnect the battery. At that point the car seems to reset itself and it will run normally. End This car of mine only had 78 miles on it This is totally unacceptable. Furthermore this seems to be a problem with other Jeep vehicles. It is my opinion that Jeep Needs to correct this problem so I will not be stuck with a car that's running in my garage and I can't shut it off. All in all it seems to me this is a software problem that needs to be reworked and corrected.Read more

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train), and the part was listed as available at the time. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed to have the PTU/full transmission failure as listed in the recall notice; however, the vehicle was not repaired due to the dealer not being able to remedy the part. The
... part was ordered. The contact stated while driving the vehicle at an undisclosed speed on the highway, she attempted to accelerate but no power was given. She pulled off to the side, and authorities were called for traffic control. The vehicle was unable to move. When engaging into drive, the vehicle sounded like it was coming apart. The contact stated the vehicle was not able to engage its own brake. When the vehicle was towed, there was no evidence that the wheels were locked up. Shortly after that, the vehicle's PTU became fully inoperable, causing the vehicle to not be able to be placed in park or any other driver setting. The vehicle was towed to the dealer a second time. The tow company parked the vehicle at the dealer on a hill. With a failed transmission, this caused the vehicle's E-brake to disengage, causing it to roll off the hill and stopped rolling shortly after once on flat ground. The dealer declined to perform the recall repair and prompted the contact to fix the E-brake on her own, although the failure portrayed to the recall notice. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.Read more

On February 13, 2026, ALM [XXX] [XXX] ) sold me a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer (VIN: [XXX] ) with Federal Safety Recall 88C (NHTSA Campaign 25V-642 — rear quarter window trim detachment, road hazard risk) open and unrepaired at the time of sale. This recall was not disclosed to me during the sale process, which was conducted remotely. I discovered the open recall only after taking delivery of the vehicl
... e. Owner notification letters for Recall 88C were mailed beginning February 19, 2026 — six days after my purchase. ALM CDJR had knowledge of this recall prior to sale and chose not to disclose it or complete the repair before delivery. The recall has since been completed by a different dealer (Farris Motor Company, Jefferson City, TN). However, ALM CDJR's sale of a vehicle with a known open federal safety recall without disclosure is a dealer compliance violation I am formally reporting to NHTSA. I have filed supporting complaints with the Georgia Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division and have documentation of this transaction on file. On May 27, 2026 at approximately 11:00 PM, my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Overland (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered catastrophic engine failure during normal operation at 78,190 miles. The alternator seized, causing the harmonic balancer (crankshaft damper) to fracture. The broken balancer fell into the engine block, causing extensive internal damage requiring complete engine replacement at significant cost. This
... failure sequence points to a design and/or manufacturing defect in the OEM alternator and/or its mounting system on the 3.6L Pentastar V6. A properly designed alternator should not seize with enough force to fracture the harmonic balancer and deposit debris into the engine block under normal operating conditions. The vehicle was not involved in any accident or operator abuse. It was being driven normally with no prior warning — no dashboard lights, no unusual sounds, no prior related mechanical issues. I request NHTSA investigate whether this failure pattern is systemic across 2020 Jeep Gladiator vehicles and other 3.6L Pentastar V6 platforms, including the Jeep Wrangler, Ram 1500, and Dodge Durango. Sudden complete engine failure at highway speeds is an immediate crash hazard to the driver and surrounding motorists. I respectfully request a formal defect investigation and, if warranted, a safety recall with full remediation and reimbursement of repair costs to affected owners. The power transfer unit (PTU) failed at approximately 53,000 miles, which is a premature failure for a major drivetrain component. The issue was confirmed upon inspection. The “Service 4WD” warning light remains illuminated on the dashboard. Additionally, the vehicle pulls slightly to the left while driving. A failure of the PTU affects the all-wheel-drive system and can lead to improper pow
... er distribution, loss of traction, or driveline binding. The pulling condition and drivetrain issues create a safety concern during normal driving. Similar PTU failures have been reported in other 2019 Jeep Cherokees and have resulted in recalls and technical service bulletins for similar components, although this specific vehicle was not included. This suggests a broader pattern of premature PTU failure.Read more

I am reporting a catastrophic engine failure on a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer (VIN: [XXX] ) that occurred within 163 miles of consumer delivery, suggesting a latent manufacturing defect present at the time of sale. The vehicle was delivered February 13, 2026 at approximately 29,750 miles. Engine noise was noted the same evening. By March 10, 2026, the vehicle was grounded at Farris Motor Company [XXX] ) a
... t 29,913 miles — 163 miles after delivery. The vehicle remains inoperable after 60+ days. Stellantis STAR Case #XXX documents the following confirmed failures: collapsed lifters, failed camshaft, damaged rockers, and scored cylinder walls. Technician notes in the official STAR Case record state the engine oil contained metal contamination so severe it "looked like paint." Borescope imaging confirmed scoring on cylinder walls. Stellantis has thus far refused to authorize a full engine replacement, instead directing the servicing dealer to replace only individually identified failed components — despite the fact that metal contamination of this severity compromises the entire lubrication circuit, including both turbochargers. The servicing dealer (Farris Motor Company) has independently advocated to Stellantis for full engine replacement and agrees the partial repair is insufficient. I am reporting this failure to NHTSA to document the defect pattern and request investigation into whether other 2023 Wagoneer vehicles with the 3.0L Hurricane engine may be experiencing similar latent valvetrain failures. A trailer hitch was contracted as part of the vehicle purchase on December 20, 2025, and was physically installed by Southern Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in January 2026 as a fulfillment of that purchase contract. This installation was performed by Stellantis's own authorized dealer technicians. The vehicle has been configured and warranted for towing use since January 2026 — an explicitly marketed
... capability of this vehicle platform. A trip was scheduled for May 18, 2026 to tow a 12-foot rigid inflatable boat (yacht tender) weighing approximately 600 pounds on a trailer from XXX to Fawcett Boat Services in XXX — a route of approximately 150 miles traversing [XXX] in heavy traffic at approximately 70 mph. The appointment at Fawcett Boat Services is verifiable. The boat's location in [XXX] is documentable. The air suspension failure occurred on May 17, 2026 — one day before this towing trip. The trip was canceled as a direct result. Had the failure occurred on May 18, 2026 during transit on Interstate 95: —The spontaneous asymmetric rear suspension collapse — right rear corner dropping without warning at 70 mph — would have subjected the hitch coupling to vertical and lateral forces outside its design tolerance —Trailer instability, jackknifing, or physical decoupling of a 600-pound loaded trailer at 70 mph in heavy interstate traffic is mechanically foreseeable —A decoupled trailer carrying a rigid boat structure at 70 mph in heavy traffic is a lethal projectile — the foreseeable consequences include multiple vehicle collisions and loss of life Stellantis marketed this vehicle as towing-capable. NHTSA ODI Case Update – Supplement to Complaint #XXX Vehicle: 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus (VIN: [XXX] ) Subject: Dealership Deflection Tactics and Denial of Recall Repair Verification This statement is submitted to update my ongoing federal safety complaint regarding the catastrophic failure of the Mopar Two-Speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU) and the resulting loss of motive power/r
... ollaway risks. On May 19, 2026, the vehicle was evaluated by an authorized FCA dealership, St. Helens Auto Center (Repair Order #XXX). The certified technician, Don Stockdale, explicitly confirmed the mechanical failure of the recall-associated components, stating in writing: “the propeller shaft at the rear of the PTU feels as though it is dry inside. Very loose and clanking around.” Despite verifying this severe manufacturing safety defect, Service Manager April McCall formally refused to submit a corporate Goodwill or Warranty Extension claim to FCA unless I paid out-of-pocket to replace three CV axles, which she claimed were "loose and dry." To verify this claim, the vehicle was immediately taken to a secondary licensed automotive facility (Dr. Auto LLC, Invoice #XXX) on May 27, 2026. The independent inspection confirmed that the dealership’s diagnosis was fraudulent. All CV axle boots are completely intact and sealed, meaning the internal grease has not escaped. The front axles have zero play, and the rear axles exhibit only normal, minor factory play. The dealership intentionally used a loaded 4-post lift to misdiagnose the vehicle, leveraging the high-frequency vibrations of the failing central PTU to fabricate secondary, non-covered user-pay repairs. This is a deliberate corporate tactic used to deflect financial liability for a known federal safety defect onto the consumer. I am requesting that the NHTSA review these attached service documents as evidence of predatory dealership behavior surrounding the Cherokee PTU failures. Incident date: Jun 15, 2024
I am writing to formally and collectively express my growing alarm and frustration regarding the widespread failure and unavailability of the ABS control module (commonly referenced as Mopar part number 68259556XX) used in 2011–2018 Wrangler JKs. This component is a critical element of my vehicles' anti-lock braking, traction control, and electronic stability control systems—features required
... for safe operation and federally mandated since 2012. For over two years now, owners have documented sudden ABS module failures that result in: Complete loss of ABS and ESC functionality “Limp mode” behavior, dramatically reducing drivability Illumination of multiple brake system warning lights Vehicles becoming inoperable or unsafe to drive Failure to pass state safety inspections (in states like NY and PA) This safety-critical component has been placed on indefinite backorder, and in many cases completely discontinued, leaving no viable path for repair or replacement. Some dealerships have confirmed that new replacement modules issued in 2023–2024 were defective or failed to program properly, and were later placed on engineering hold by Jeep corporate. In the meantime, affected owners have been forced to seek out unreliable salvaged units or third-party rebuilders at their own cost and risk. Despite the clear danger posed by these failures, Stellantis has not issued a formal recall, technical service bulletin, or warranty extension for Wrangler JK owners. This inaction stands in stark contrast to: The recall of over 200,000 Grand Cherokees and Durangos (Recall ID 94B) for ABS/ESC failures in 2024 The recall of over 300,000 Ram 2500/3500 trucks for similar brake module issues in 2025 The parallels are undeniable. Jeep Wrangler JK owners are experiencing the same dangerous loss of safety systems, yet have been left without acknowledgment, recourse, or remedy. This inconsistency is unacceptable. My family cannot afford to buy another car to replace this Jeep.Read more

Jeep dealer stated that the power transfer unit had an internal failure code C1487–97. Dealership quoted a repair cost of $2836.75. Dealership stated the part was on backorder and would not be available for weeks or months or longer. Although there are three recalls specificall

This issue has happened three times. I am on the highway going 70mph, the RPMs fluctuate, the headlights go out and then I lose propulsion/unable to maintain or increase speed. This is a safety concern as it has happened 3 times on the highway with no warning and limited time to pull over to safety. The dealership is unable to replicate the problem or diagnose an issue.

Steering rack needs to be replaced per dealership. Reported loud clunking noise when turning. Not covered under warranty. Was told it was regular car maintenance. 49k miles with bumper to bumper expired a month before complaint. Have noted in forums multiple complaints for same issue yet jeep refuses to cover.
