Vehicle Information: 2019 Chevrolet Equinox VIN: [XXX] Mileage: [Insert your current mileage] Engine: 1.5L Turbo ⸻ Complaint Summary: Sudden and complete loss of brake assist while driving. Brake pedal became extremely hard to press, making it difficult to stop the vehicle safely. A warning message appeared on the dashboard stating “Brake Assist”. This happened without warning and made br
... aking unpredictable and dangerous. If I had been driving downhill or in the mountains, I could have easily lost control or crashed. I was lucky to be on a relatively flat road when it happened. I inspected the vacuum hose and brake fluid level — both were normal. After researching, I discovered this is a known issue in 2019 Equinox models with the 1.5L turbo engine, related to vacuum pump failure or loss of vacuum supply to the brake booster. There are service bulletins and limited coverage programs (N192268490 and N182202780), but my VIN does not show an open recall. I believe this is a serious safety defect that could affect many vehicles not yet covered by the recall or service campaigns. GM needs to expand the recall and properly warn drivers before someone gets killed. Please investigate this problem and hold GM accountable for fixing this safety-critical issue. While traveling on the freeway at freeway speeds and with the cruise control on, on 7/22/2025, my vehicle abruptly start making an odd noise, the steering wheel started to vibrate / move as if I had a flat tire. ... o call a tow truck, and have the vehicle towed from Alpine, CA to Temecula and Temecula Valley GMC. While there the dealership gave me an initial diagnosis of "Miss fire in cylinder 8". We left the vehicle, and awaited more information. The next day I received a phone call stating that they needed to do an engine teardown to completely diagnose the issue, to the tune of approx. $1,500. In the dealers words, they needed to do the teardown to determine if "They could salvage the engine, or if it had to be condemned". The following day I received another call stating that the engine needed to be completely replaced due to a collapsed cylinder. The estimate for this work is over $13,000. the truck is 6 years old with 58,XXX miles.Read more

As I was driving in the highway the car began to loose power... it began to slip, it speeds up then goes down etc, once I slowed down but before coming to a complete stop the car shut down while I was exiting the highway. We could have been hit from behind if it wasn't that i had already been slowing down because the car didn't feel right. It has happened more than once, the slippage of power is
... constant. According to the codes and the diagnostic it was the turbo that needed replacement along with other things I have a video summary of the issues. However, this began right after my warranty expired and the engine had already been replaced due to another issue not even a year before. This car seems to be nothing but problems. You get the check engine light that comes and goes amd the "see manual" light which doesn't tell you anything other than it could be anything. This car is not even 10 years old... it's not high mileage. They seem to know that the turbocharge is an issue but nothing is done about it.Read more

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and the dangerous issue related to its air conditioning (A/C) system — a problem affecting many Civic owners nationwide. I initially brought my vehicle to Honda City Chicago for a Honda “campaign” repair (a term they use instead of calling it a recall) in 2023 and again this year, related to the A/C system. I was told th
... e issue would be resolved. However, after agreeing to an optional transmission oil change they recommended, I was later told the A/C still wasn’t fixed — and that I now needed to pay $400 for a diagnostic. That diagnostic revealed the actual problem: a locked A/C compressor. (Which they knew they just wanted the money) This defect is not just an inconvenience — it’s a serious safety hazard. When the A/C is turned on, the locked compressor causes the engine to shake violently and stall completely. This happened to me at a red light; the car shut off, became unresponsive, and I was stuck blocking traffic. If this had occurred while driving at higher speeds, the consequences could have been catastrophic. Many Civic owners have reported similar compressor failures leading to engine stalls and unsafe driving conditions. Honda is aware of this issue but continues to treat it as isolated rather than a systemic defect. I urge the NHTSA to open a formal investigation into this widespread and dangerous issue involving locked A/C compressors in 2016–2020 Honda Civics. A safety recall is warranted before more drivers are put at risk or harmed due to this known defect.Read more

So I just had my oil changed. And when they shut the hood, the hood stop fell out the bottom. They really just glued the hood stop on? This is allowed? And they didn't even do it properly. And I'd know. I'm a former ASE Certified Master Tech. First, they used the adhesive as a spacer to make the square bracket sit 90 degrees to the ground on a curved panel. Unnecessary since you can't see the bra
... cket with the hood closed. Second, they didn't rough up either surface for adhesion and, they didn't put any adhesive BETWEEN the bracket and the body, (except for where they used the adhesive as a wedge spacer). They just put the panel bond over the bracket. Looks like they used half a tube on each one. The bracket has 2 holes in it for #8 screws. Why didn't they use those? The panel adhesive costs like $80-$100 bucks a tube. 4 bolts with washers and nyloc nuts are about $2. Imagine if that had fallen off while driving and bounced up and punctured the LP line, or fuel line, or tire, or G*d forbid a BRAKE LINE. Or even worse. What about when that chunk of steel come bounding out from under my vehicle and goes right through the car windshield behind me. And you just know it would have happened at the worst possible time like going down hill in a construction zone at night in the rain. Now those things did not happen this time. But have they? I pulled the remaining adhesive off BY HAND with very little effort. How many other parts have they just “glued on”? They make a lot of motorhomes. Is this their normal practice? How many accidents have they caused they don’t even know about? Please investigate this company’s production practices.Read more

On [XXX], our 2018 Chevy Volt experienced a critical BECM (Battery Energy Control Module) failure while being driven by our [XXX] daughter. The failure caused the vehicle to enter limp mode, resulting in a severe loss of power and the inability to shift properly. Most alarmingly, the brakes failed to function correctly—despite being fully engaged, the car continued to move forward at a red ligh

This BECM defect is a well-documented issue for Chevy Volts from 2016 to 2018. However, Chevrolet has refused to cover our VIN under the existing special service bulletin, despite our vehicle using the same faulty part number as those included in the recall, and has provided no explanation for this exclusion. As a result, we are being forced to pay $2,100 out of pocket to replace a part that GM knows is defective. This is an unacceptable financial burden for a safety-critical issue. GM should immediately issue a recall for all vehicles equipped with this faulty part number to ensure the safety of all drivers and prevent further undue costs. I believe there is a flaw in the architecture of start-stop technology in conjunction with the electronic shifting technology installed in cars today.. I have ran into this issue twice in a 18month period and I believe it is something the NHTSA should institute new requirements on car manufacturers. My wifes BMW X3 start stop technology has failed twice in 18months and that is not a big deal. Th
... ings break and need to be repaired but given the car can not be put in neutral it left us stranded unable to move the vehicle in the middle of the road until a tow truck could move us out of the road. I could have easily put the car in the neutral (if allowed) and pushed the car off to the side of the road out of traffic. Luckily in both occasions a police officer pulled up very quickly and was able to alert traffic there was a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. I want you to imagine being in stop and go traffic on highway 95 and this happens. Then the traffic actually dissipates and your vehicl is in the middle lane on hwy 95 unable to be moved until a tow truck arrives and now the traffic is going 65-70 mph. The BMW X3 can not be place in neutral unless you go underneath the car in some sort of service panel. I do not believe given the mandate of auto-stop start on these new cars coupled with the inability to place cars into neutral is a good design point and I would hope the the NHTSA would mandate cars be able to put cars in neutral to avoid potentially catastrophic accidents on the highways across America..Read more

The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), which is part of Honda's advanced safety features, slammed on the brakes driving down the road at about 40 mph. When the vehicle slammed the brakes, me and the passenger were jerked forward with seatbelts on. Had a vehicle been behind us traveling it would have slammed into the back of my vehicle causing an accident. I will be contacting the deale

Manual transmission vehicle. The electric parking brake can automatically release when letting the clutch out with the vehicle in neutral if the brake and gas were recently touched. This YouTube video clearly describes the problem: [XXX] This can present a roll away hazard when leaving the vehicle parked with the engine running. With the vehicle in neutral, clutch in, foot on brake, engage th
... e emergency brake, let off the foot brake, touch the throttle, then let off the clutch with the vehicle still in neutral and the emergency brake will release automatically and the vehicle will start rolling away with no feet on any pedals. It appears the vehicle is trying to auto release the parking brake as if you were going to drive away, but the vehicle knows it is in neutral not in 1 or R so this should not occur. The timeout for brake and then throttle though is very long. This dangerous behavior has caused my vehicle to roll away after I shut the engine off on multiple occasions. luckily I noticed before I had exited the vehicle and was able to re-engage the parking brake. There may be other circumstances that trigger this automatic release as well, I'm not sure, but I am always concerned that the brake may turn itself off and my car may roll away. When putting my vehicle in PARK and pressing the button to shut off my car, a warning appears on the dashboard saying “WARNING: PUT VEHICLE IN PARK.” & it is in park. I have to wiggle the gear shifter in order for the warning to go away and if it won’t go away, then my car won’t turn off. There was a recall on it in 2018 & I need mine fixed. Somehow, my vehicle was not apart of the recall

While driving and pressing on gas the car started beeping and started to brake. There was no obstruction in front of me to cause this. The break flashing signal didn’t come on. It just beeped and started to brake and then stopped
