When driving the Jeep Cherokee (51,000 miles), I experienced numerous incidents where the car experienced sudden power loss climbing a grade followed almost immediately by numerous warning lights and a message that "4WD System Unavailable" as well as a message that the forward warning system had failed. Under these conditions, the car struggled to make even 50 mph and would only do so in a much lo
... wer gear at 4000+ rpm. Prior to each incident, the car had been driving smoothly at 70 mph at approx 2200 rpm. Both the Jeep dealer and the local repair obtained the same error code (DTC C14A7-97 PTU Motor Component) indicating internal failure of the PTU (transfer case). When the repair shop removed the transfer case they found metal shavings in the PTU lubricant. With no PTUs available from the Jeep dealership for months it was necessary to purchase a salvaged PTU at near-new pricing. I note that there is a similar recall but it does not cover my vehicle. I also note there are numerous NHTSA complaints for identical problems being filed nearly daily for 2017-2021 Jeeps. This defect is a serious safety issue that can result in complete driveline failure or an inability to maintain speed with traffic. It also results in approx $5000-7000 in repair costs for each PTU replacement.Read more

Often, the pump would stop short around 8-10 gals instead of the usual 13-14 gals. I attributed both to perhaps cheap gas and faulty pumps. Upon searching, I found that in January of 2019, previous years were recalled to replace the fuel tank due to similar issues (Gas Tank Recall # SC172). Some of these models had recalls for the KSDS as well, and my vehicle had been recalled and repaired. My concern is that this is my 3rd Kia and 6th car total in life. The incident happened in December 2022; the vehicle is available for inspection still. Without warning, the engine light started blinking, and engine ran very rough, so I ended up pulled over and stuck until we could tow to the local Honda dealership. Then was without a car for several days. The dealership found error code P0302 (misfire on cylinder 2), due to oil gumming up on the spark plugs, c
... aused by the eco system design flaw in the 2014 Odyssey. The dealer quoted $5640 to replace the 1-3 piston rings. I could not afford this, so they replaced all 6 plugs and cleared the codes for a short term fix ($465). Which brings us to now, when Honda has offered a warranty extension and to reimburse for previous repairs related to this problem. I submitted my paperwork for the $465 reimbursement a month ago and have had multiple phone calls with Honda, and several "escalations" to supposed supervisors, each of whom seem to have not even looked at the incident details. Honda has denied the claim. The paperwork I submitted to them is from the dealer repair in Dec. 2022 and states "misfire on cylinder 2, need piston ring repair on cylinders 1-3, P0302 was the dtc error code, replaced all 6 plugs and cleared codes for short term fix, for long term fix, vehicle needs the 1-3 piston rings replaced." The Honda reps claim the dealer service did not use the right wording; it should have the words "fouled by oil" in the service report (but they don't provide appropriate wording for service departments to use). The last voicemail I received from them said there was no error code provided (which there clearly was). Honda is not interested in fulfilling the reimbursement their latest campaign promises. Beyond that, the long term fix is not covered on the warranty extension, because the vehicle is not currently broken. So I am left with a van that I can't drive on the highway or out of town, since it can happen again without warning. This is a safety risk for my family. Shame!!Read more

After the y43 recall that Dodge did on 2022 Cummins Ram vehicles I have had four issues. The first one being the recall itself having sensors stuck while replacing, the second being the particulate filter sensor, third being DPF pressure sensor, and fourth being the maf sensor. During my most recent visit of getting the math sensor replaced I was not given any reason to why this was being replaced
... when they said everything seem to be within parameters. The dealership had stayed in one talking to the TA or tech advisor that they wanted to try this to see if it fixed the issue. I am now back again at the dealership just days later after the dealership having my truck for 2 weeks for the same issue. This all stems from the y43 recall and I've only had issues since. I've asked for specific answers to specific questions in Dodge seems to pass technical engineering questions back to the dealership without providing educated answers instead of educated guesses. During the y43 recall it stated that there is potential fire hazards in other issues that could happen. I'm not okay with ram allowing for guessing games when it comes to my safety. I would like answers in educated fixes put into place while ensuring that the y43 recall they guaranteed the government is resolved without any further issues during this fix.Read more

I was getting ready drive to Indiana from Florida & wanted to make sure it would be safe.I then drove to Texas after that, then back home, about 1200 miles each leg. When I went to leave to Maine a couple weeks later, the truck would not start. I was able to use a jump starter to get it going. When I got to Maine, I scheduled an appointment at the local dealership to have them check it. They ran the same tests & said they could not get the code to replace the battery under warranty. It became increasingly difficult to start the truck & even got to the point where I couldn't use a mobile jump starter to start it. When I returned from Maine, I made an appointment with a reliable mechanic who said the battery was swollen & leaking acid. He said it was ready to explode, potentially catching the engine compartment on fire. At that point I contacted the dealer again, and they said that yes, with acid leaking & the battery swollen, they could replace the battery under warranty. It should never have gotten to the point where the battery had to be leaking acid to get it changed out under warranty, the testing the dealerships do does not properly identify bad batteries. On 9/15/2025, my 2020 Ford Escape SE began experiencing serious electrical and shift system issues: hard downshifting, “Shift System Fault” warning, inability to go into park, and failure to shut off without disconnecting the battery. I confirmed a related PCM recall was active and had the vehicle towed to Art Hill Ford for diagnostic and recall service. The dealership refused to perform the
... PCM recall, claiming my issue “didn’t match” the symptoms — despite clear electrical failure. Instead, they diagnosed a park pawl solenoid issue without scanning or physically inspecting the vehicle. I was told the issue was resolved, paid ~$1,400, and picked up the vehicle. Within 24 hours, new and dangerous transmission issues arose: harsh downshifting, loss of power, sudden high RPMs, and dashboard warnings. I became stranded in the middle of the road and had to have the car towed again. After this second visit, the dealer claimed there were metal shavings in the transmission and now says I need a full transmission replacement (~$10,000). These shavings were not reported during their first transmission disassembly — which is highly suspicious and may indicate the damage was caused during or after their service. Replacing transmission fluid on high-mileage vehicles (mine has ~132,000 miles) is known to be risky and can cause internal failure if not done carefully. My transmission had no mechanical problems prior to this visit. I now believe the dealership’s misdiagnosis, failure to perform the PCM safety recall 1st, and service caused a safety-critical failure that they are refusing to take responsibility for. I am a veteran with a pregnant wife — we depend on this vehicle. Ford corporate has not provided assistance. This situation has left me without transportation and potentially with catastrophic repair costs due to service-related damage.Read more

Vehicle: 2019 Kia Sorento (VIN: [XXX] at Incident: 171,800 Description of Incident: On Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 12:30 PM, my 2019 Kia Sorento experienced a sudden and catastrophic engine failure while in motion. I was driving with my two children at approximately 60 mph on Highway 111, a major highway in Palm Springs, CA. Without any warning whatsoever, no dashboard lights, sou
... nds, or symptoms, the engine failed and the vehicle immediately lost all power. The gas pedal became completely unresponsive, and I was left to coast from highway speeds down to a natural stop. My safety and the safety of my children were severely at risk. Being in a vehicle that is unable to accelerate or even maintain speed on a major highway creates an immediate and extreme hazard for being rear-ended by other traffic moving at 60+ mph. We were a vulnerable, slow-moving obstacle with no ability to power ourselves out of a dangerous situation. The vehicle was towed to the Palm Springs Kia dealership in Cathedral City, California, where it was inspected by their service department. A certified Kia technician confirmed the cause of failure was a cracked engine valve, requiring a full engine replacement. I am the original owner of this vehicle and have a complete and documented history of performing all scheduled maintenance. Initial Diagnosis: We had the vehicle towed to a dealership for repair after losing steering while driving. The dealer's service department informed us that the issue was caused by water and corrosion in the electric power steering rack. They also indicated that this is a known issue, suggesting that the wiring harness seals are failing and allowing water to damage the system. Video the dealership
... sent us of the issue can be seen at [XXX] Repair Timeline: On July 30, 2025 I was informed that the replacement part for the steering rack was on backorder for approximately 45 days. After waiting 56 days, I contacted the dealer again on September 25. They informed me that they were unable to get the part. The dealer stated they could not locate the part even after contacting other dealerships, suggesting a widespread shortage. The reason given was a high volume of similar repairs. Requested Action: I am reporting this to the NHTSA because the sudden loss of steering is a severe safety defect. The widespread parts shortage suggests this is a common failure. The manufacturer needs to address this issue and provide a remedy to prevent accidents. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more
