WE OWN A 1996 JAYCO EAGLE 244SL TRAVEL TRAILER. ON THE FRONT OF THE TRAILER IS A STORAGE AREA WHICH IS MADE OF ABS PLASTIC. LAST YEAR, WE DEVELOPED A CRACK IN THE LID FOR THE STORAGE AREA WHICH IS ALSO MADE OF ABS PLASTIC AND A CRACK IN THE ABS PLASTIC WHCIH FORMS THE STORAGE AREA. ALL THE CRACKS ARE DEVELOPING FROM EITHER WHERE A POP RIVET OR A SCREW WAS PLACED IN THE ABS PLASTIC. THE CRACKS
... APPEAR TO BE SOME KIND OF STRESS CRACK WHICH IS CAUSED BY THE IMPOPERR DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF THE STORAGE AREA. OVER THIS PAST WINTER, ANOTHER CRACK DEVOLPED IN THE LID OF THE STORAGE AREA. IT APPEARS THAT THE STORAGE AREA IS FALLING APART WHICH COULD CAUSE DEBRIS FROM THE TRAILER TO BE DISCARDED ON THE HIGHWAY. I CONTACTED JAYCO EARLIER THIS YEAR AND ADVISED THEM OF THE PROBLEM. I TOLD A COMPANY REP. THAT MY PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED BY JAYCO. THE COMPANY REP TOLD ME THAT MY TRAILER WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I SHOULD HAVE THIS SAFTEY ISSUE FIXED MYSELF AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THE INJECTORS LEAKED INTO THE RADIATOR THEN TO THE RESERVOIR, IT OVERFLOWED AND WATER AND DIESEL FUEL LEAKED ONTO THE MANIFOLD AND THE TURBO AND THEN THE FIRE STARTED. THE DRIVERS BARELY GOT OUT OF THE CAB OF THE TRUCK BEFORE IT FULLY IGNITED BURNING THE COMPLETE CAB RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS. THE DRIVERS INJURED TRYING TO GET OUT OF CAB.ALL PERSONEL BELONGINGS WERE DESTROYED.
