I was driving at approximately 30 mph when the transmission's OSS (Output Speed sensor) suddenly malfunctioned, causing an unexpected downshift into first gear. This abrupt shift led to a loss of control, resulting in a harrowing collision with a tree. What I witnessed next is etched into my memory forever: a scene of blood, fluorescent white bone fragments, and shattered glass strewn all around.
... Bones were even protruding through my skin at various locations, including my wrists, forearms, legs, and ankles, not to mention the dislocated shoulders. Thankfully, there were no other individuals present at the scene; otherwise, the outcome could have been equally disastrous, if not fatal, for them. Astonishingly, there were no discernible warning signs such as unusual sounds or dashboard warning lights prior to this incident. Following the accident, my pickup truck was towed to Cedar Park Wrecker, only to be swiftly claimed by the insurance company and subsequently sent to auction within a matter of days.Read more

Automatic transfer relay over heated creating a fire hazard. It's location under the bed prevents seeing the fire until it is burning. The switch is available for viewing. The rv carries 50 gallons of gasoline and 50 lbs propane a fire could cause collateral damage. This specific problem has not been inspected by a dealer or others. There was no danger warning. This is not an isolated incident on
... rv group websites there are many reports of this happening. No one to my knowledge has determined the cause of the malfunction that causes the fire risk they seem to just replace it with another relay. The way I found out about the malfunction was when there was no shore power to the unit, i checked circuit breakers all were good so I disconnected the shore power and tried the generator. Luckily that also failed to power up the rv. After researching the issue on the internet I checked the transfer relay and saw the burnt wires and relay. I felt very luck there was not a fire. I have not contacted a dealer, so the component/vehicle has not been inspected by anyone. According to Ford technicians a "Yaw" sensor detects an amount of sway beyond a set limit and initiated actions through the antilock braking system to maintain control of the vehicle. The Ford technicians were able to duplicate the problem. It occurred in both directions with no apparent physical indications of excess sway or lean while turning the vehicle. The vehicle was not over weight nor were excessive speeds involved in the original incident or during troubleshooting by Ford technicians. According the the information obtained from the Ford technicians the center of gravity for the vehicle is too high. (see attached Ford_Linclon_Fairfield 2.jpg) We upgraded the sway bars to make our vehicle safe to drive. The original front and read sway bars were 7/8 and 1-1/8 inches respectively.Read more

I was driving slowly looking for an open gas station on a highwsy in Va. i attempted to make a left hand turn when i heard a snapping sound. I then had a complete loss of power steering and braking capacity. I started rolling across the highway mashing the brakes and finally put my Ebrake on stopping my RV. There were not any lights lit up on the dashboard before or after this incident. If i was g

The Jayco manufacturer window sticker for our newly purchased RV states it has driver and passenger airbags as standard equipment, and we bought the vehicle expecting it to have this safety feature. The vehicle does not have this safety feature and the manufacturer (Jayco) stated they will not do anything to rectify the missing vehicle safety equipment as promised.

There was a recall on the springs and this was done on my Fifth Wheel. Less that a year after springs be changed, the spring bracket that is welded to the crash tubes busted into the crash tubes. The Service Manager at the dealership said he is not sure if the spring broke causing the causing the crush tubes to break or the crush tubes broke first causing the spring to break. But he did say the cr

The component involved is the LP regulator 2nd stage cover that is used on a travel trailer LP system. I received a recall notice to have the LP regulator replaced as they were know to be leaking. I took the trailer to my dealer and they replaced the LP regulator but I was told that they did not have a plastic cover for the second stage of the regulator. The cover is required by ANSI 1192 secti
... on 5.2.15.8. The regulator that replaced the leaking regulator was a different shape and the second stage cover from the leaking regulator did not fit the new regulator. The cover is required to prevent the vent at the bottom of the second stage from freezing over with moisture and causing the regulator to malfunction and creating a safety issue. I insisted that a cover be placed on the regulator. I was first told that they were not putting covers on the new regulators as they did not receive any with the shipment of new regulators. I continued to insist that they find a cover. The technician went to the parts department but was told that the covers were decorative and they were not supplying them. I still insisted and they found one and put it on my regulator. I talked with the shop foreman and told him of the problem and that he was creating a safety issue on all of the trailers that were getting new regulators. He said he would look into it. I asked for a response but have heard nothing. I called the rv manufacture and told them about the problem. They said they would call me back the next day. I haven't had a call. I am sending this to you as I am sure with the experience I encountered there are hundreds or maybe even thousands of trailers at my dealership alone that have had the regulator changed under the recall but did not get the protective cover.Read more

I recently purchased a used Jayco Precept 31 UL motorhome that is on a Ford F53 chassis. After the purchase I found that the vehicle handled very dangerously when being passed by a large trucks, or when there were crosswinds or medium strength winds. The problem was bad enough the I narrowly avoided accidents caused by being pushed around by passing 18 wheel trucks or crosswinds, or both. After
... doing some research on this vehicle, and others on the Ford F53 chassis I found that these handling issues are the number one problem with these units. I subsequently had to invest over $6K to correct these handling problems as they were the result of the ineffective stock suspension configuration from the factory. I had to install a steering stabilizer (Safe-T-Plus), a rear track bar (SuperSteer), front radius rods (SuperSteer), new special damping shocks (Koni FSD shocks) and an adjustable drag link (unsure of the manufacturer). All these modifications collectively changed the handling of the RV from a huge safety hazard to a well heeled and safe handling vehicle. These changes should have been included as standard safety equipment directly from the factory. It is incomprehensible to me that a vehicle of this size should be allowed to be leave the factory and be on the road with such dangerous handling issues. If you do the research you will find many owners of these units who struggle with the same issues and who have had many near misses or accidents on the road as a result. Recreation Vehicles built on the Ford F53 chassis need to be highly regulated and inspected to ensure that they leave the factory with the safest configuration of suspension, chassis and steering equipment available. These vehicles should all be placed under a recall to have the manufacturer(s) install, at their expense, the handling modification I outlined above.Read more
