WHENEVER THE CONVERTIBLE TOP IS DOWN HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAKS FROM THE RELEASE HANDLE OVER THE WINDOW. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS.*AK

AFTER DRIVING ON A FREEWAY IN DOWNTOWN LA, ARRIVED IN A PARKING STRUCTURE. SUDDENLY AFTER A BIG BANG, THE FRONT LEFT OF CAR COLLAPSED AND STOPPED. IT SEEMED THAT THE BOLT FOR FRONT AXLE SHEARED OFF, AND THE COMPONENT OF THE AXLE (A-ROD?) PUSHED INTO THE TIRE RIM. TWO MONTHS AGO THE CAR SEEMED UNSTABLE DURING THE DRIVING AT SPEED ABOVE 30 MPH. ... 00 MILES BEFORE THE INCIDENT). THE DEALER INDICATED THAT A BOLT WAS LOOSE AND THEY TIGHTENED IT UP. HISTORICALLY, THIS CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SHIP AT NUMEROUS OCCASIONS FOR THE REASON OF INSTABILITY DURING THE DRIVING AND EACH TIME WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE INCIDENT HAS RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND CAUSED A RELEASE OF GASOLINE LEAK. IF THIS INCIDENT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED 10 MINUTES EARLIER, THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN IN A FREEWAY AT A SPEED OF 60 MPH. THE SUDDEN FAILURE WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN FATALITY AND WITH THE GASOLINE LEAK, IT WOULD HAVE CREATED A MAJOR DISTASTOUR. THE CAR HAS 37,000 MILES AND IS JAGUAR S, V8. I HAVE AN 1998 JAGUAR XJ. THE INSIDE REAR-VIEW MIRROR, WHICH HAS A FLUID INSIDE THAT DIMS THE IMAGE IN THE EVENING. THE CAR HAS ONLY 40,000 MILES AND IS WELL-TREATED. OF THE SEVEN STRANDS IT APPEARS THAT 3 OR 4 MAY HAVE BEEN TRIMMED LEAVING 2 OR 3 STRANDS TO CARRY THE CURRENT. ADJACENT WIRES SHOW DAMAGE FROM HEAT.

MY 1998 JAGUAR XJ8L STALLED AT HIGH SPEED (70 MPH) ON THE FREEWAY FOR THE THIRD TIME IN THE LAST SIX MONTH WITH NO WARNING. THIS CAUSE ME TO HAVE VERY LITTLE CONTROL OVER MY CAR. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR AND RESTART WITH NO PROBLEM. I CHECKED AN INTERNET SITE WHICH HAS A FORUM DOCUMENTING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM ON THE FREEWAY. VERY SCARY.

PURCHASED A 2000 S-TYPE JAGUAR TO FIND THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW. AS A PREVIOUS AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEER, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS CAN BE ALLOWED TO EXIST. THEY THEN PROCEEDED TO INFORM ME THAT THE "FIX" WAS TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND ROCK IT BACK AND FORTH TO RELEASE THE PRESSURE ON THE TRANSMISSION/SHIFTER. THAT ON INCLINES THE CAR WILL GET STUCK, SO GET OUT AND PUSH IT. MY CAR HAD THE SHIFTER COMPLETELY REPLACED AND THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH THIS CAR.
