THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I'VE HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY 2000 JAGUAR S. 1ST WAS IN MAY 2005 WHILE PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE IN MY DRIVEWAY THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. AFTER IT SET FOR A WHILE, IT SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS EARLIER WHEN THE CAR WAS BEING INSPECTED. THIS TIME IT WAS NOT ON AN INCLINE, BUT THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN HAD A HARD TIME BACKING IT OUT
... OF THE SERVICE BAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE HAND SELECTOR LEVER, GEARS, CABLE GEAR ASSEMBLY. IN AUGUST 2005 SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS TIME WHEN TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED A MISSING BOLT WHERE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE BOLTS TO TRANSMISSION. NOW THAT THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN ON 2/25/06 IN MY DRIVEWAY. "SHAKING" THE CAR BACK AND FORTH DID SOMETHING AND I WAS ABLE TO GET IT OUT OF PARK, BUT THE ONLY GEAR IT WOULD GO IN WAS A "MANUAL 2ND" AND REVERSE. I'VE CALLED JAGUAR CUSTOMER COMPLAINT LINE AND THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THE ORIGINAL REPAIR FROM MAY '05 HAS A ONE YEAR WARRANTY SO IT SHOULD BE COVERED. HOWEVER, I DON'T KNOW IF I'LL BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SHE COULD NOT AUTHORIZE TOWING. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF A DRUG STORE. WHILE MANEUVERING THE CAR BETWEEN THE LINES, MY FOOT WAS ALREADY PARTIALLY ON THE BRAKE. WOW, IT IS REASSURING TO KNOW THAT I AM NOT ALONE IN MY COMPLAINT ABOUT A FAULTY PARK PAWL ALTHOUGH YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW IT BY THE WAY I HAVE BEEN TREATED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MANUFACTURER! AAA WAS UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING AND I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR A MECHANIC AND FLATBED TOW TRUCK TO COME OUT FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO REMOVE THE CONSOLE AND RELEASE THE PARK PAWL. IT HAS SINCE BEEN REPLACED..............AT MY EXPENSE. I HAVE WRITTEN LETTERS TO THE PRESIDENT OF JAGUAR CARS, THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY AS WELL AS ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND TO THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING TRANSMISSIONS PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPANY. WE NEED HELP GETTING THIS PROBLEMS SOLVED. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX. I PURCHASED FROM THE INTERNET THE ELECTRICAL SCHEMATICS FOR THIS CAR. I FOUND THAT ALL OF THE SYSTEMS HAD A COMMON SOURCE. THIS SOURCE WAS A COMPUTER LOCATED UNDER THE DASH BEHIND THE GLOVE COMPARTMENTED WAS CALLED BODY PROCESSOR MODULE OR BPM. IT WAS SEALED AND KNOT OPENED. IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN SOUTH AMERICA BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I FOUND ON THE UNDER SIDE OF THE CIRCUIT BOARD, SOLDER FLASHING WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE BLOWN OFF AT THE END OF ITS SOLDER BATH. THIS BOARD SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLEANED AS WELL BUT IT STILL HAD LARGE AMOUNTS OF SOLDER FLUX WHICH ACTED LIKE GLUE AND KEPT THE SOLDER BALLS IN A SEMI STABLE CONDITION. I CLEANED THE CIRCUIT BOARD WITH A APPROVED CIRCUIT BOARD CLEANER, THEN USED A SOFT BRUSH TO REMOVE ANY ADDITIONAL SOLDER BALLS. I HAD FOUND AN ESTIMATED FIVE HUNDRED TO A THOUSAND SMALL SOLDER BALLS SOME SO SMALL THAT THEY WERE .005 INCHES IN SIZE TO .125 INCHES. WHEN I REMOVED THESE SOLDER BALLS I HAD KNOW FURTHER OCCURRENCES OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I REPORTED THIS TO JAGUAR OVER THE INTERNET AND THEY REPLIED WITH AN ANSWER THAT IT WAS KNOT THEIR PROBLEM DO TO THE FACT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. VEHICLE WELL MAINTAINED AND CHECKED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. WE WERE SENT MANY WARNINGS AND SUGGESTIONS ABOUT OTHER MAINTENANCE OBJECTIVES, BUT A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH TENSIONERS WAS NEVER MENTIONED. IF THAT IN ITSELF FAILS TO MOVE THE NHTSA WE HAVE TO WONDER WHAT WILL. THERE ARE SEVERAL RESPECTED AUTOMOTIVE EXPERTS WHO CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY JAGUAR AND FORD HAVE NOT SOLVED THIS SITUATION (I.E. REPLACED THE FAULTY PARTS AND/OR TAKEN CARE OF THE COST OF INSTALLING A NEW POWER PLANT IN THE `98, `99, AND SOME `00 XJ8 MODELS). THIS VEHICLE IS STILL DISABLED BECAUSE WE HAD BEEN LED TO BELIEVE THAT A REP. FROM JAGUAR PLANNED ON "HELPING US OUT." AND, WE HAVE BEEN QUOTED A WIDE RANGE OF ENGINE REPLACEMENT COSTS, NONE BY FORMAL WRITTEN QUOTE, NOT EVEN THE 12 MONTH WARRANTY TEXT PROMISED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO.
