I WAS CALMLY DRIVING SLOWER THAN 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN AND STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHEN I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS I HEARD A BIG EXPLOSION-LIKE SOUND. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR ACCELERATED TO WHAT SEEMS LIKE OVER 100 MPH AND THE BREAKS DID NOT WORK DESPITE ME PRESSING THE BREAKS SEVERAL TIMES. I SHOT INTO 3 CARS AHEAD OF ME THAT WERE A
... T THE RED LIGHT. THE OTHER CARS RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE; I SAW THAT OTHERS WERE INJURED. MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED/CRUSHED IN THE FRONT AND A FIRE HAD BROKEN OUT. SOME TIME AFTER THIS ALERT WE RECEIVED A SERIES OF RAPID MESSAGES - "TRACTION CONTROL OFFLINE" "EMERGENCY BRAKING ASSIST OFFLINE - OK TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION" AND SEVERAL OTHERS WHICH I DON'T RECALL. THE FINAL WARNING WAS "GEAR BOX FAULT" - AT THIS POINT I THOUGHT IT WISE TO PULL OVER, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO USE THE BRAKES THERE WAS NO RESPONSE AT ALL. JUST A GRINDING, CRUNCHING FEELING UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL. I TURNED ON HAZARD LIGHTS AND COASTED TO THE RIGHT LANE THROUGH FAST-MOVING TRAFFIC, AND THEN ONTO THE HARD SHOULDER. I BELIEVE THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS WORKING AND THIS MANAGED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. MOST ALL INTERNAL BUTTONS AND SWITCHES INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL, DASH AND DOOR SWITCHES ARE FAILING. SWITCHES AND BUTTONS ALMOST FEEL LIKE THEY ARE MELTING. THE STICKY RESIDUE MAKES THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS UNRELIABLE INCLUDING TURNING ON/OFF THE VEHICLE, SAFETY WARNING SYSTEMS, WINDOWS, CRUISE CONTROL, LANE ASSIST, ETC.
