MY BRAKES HAVE FAILED ON TWO OCCASIONS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE I PURCHASED IT. BEFORE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE MECHANIC ASSIGNED TO THE VEHICLE SUGGESTED IT WAS OPERATING AS EXPECTED OR DESIGNED AND ATTRIBUTED THE INCIDENTS TO "WHEEL HOP." WORK ON THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COMPLETED ON THE 2ND, AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN RETURNED TO ME AT THIS TIME. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED
... SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WAS AT STOP SIGN IN A MALL PARKING LOT, AT THE TOP OF A SHORT, STEEP INCLINE. AFTER I PULLED AWAY FROM THE STOP SIGN, I PUSHED IN THE CLUTCH, APPLIED LIGHT BRAKING PRESSURE AS THE VEHICLE BEGIN ROLLING DOWN THE INCLINE, PREPARING TO MAKE A SHARP RIGHT HAND TURN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL. AS THE VEHICLE APPROACHED THE CREST OF THE INCLINE, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HIT A POTHOLE AT SLOW SPEED. THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY, THE BRAKES FELT LIKE THEY RELEASED WITHOUT VIBRATION OR PULSING, AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED APPROXIMATELY ONE AND ONE-HALF CAR LENGTHS BEFORE STOPPING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE INCLINE. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, AFTER I HAD BEEN IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC FOR APPROXIMATELY FORTY MINUTES, WITH THE HEADLIGHTS, AIR-CONDITIONING AND STEREO ON. I WAS CREEPING ALONG IN FIRST OR SECOND GEAR, DOWN AN INCLINE OVERPASS, I PUSHED IN THE CLUTCH, APPLIED LIGHT BRAKING PRESSURE. AS THE CARS STACKED UP TO GET OFF THE RAMP. FIRST VISIT TO DEALER FOR WARRANTY SERVICE RESULTED IN NOTHING BEING DONE. WAS TOLD THAT TAPPING NOISE WAS A NORMAL ENGINE SOUND, ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE WASN'T MAKING THAT SOUND WHEN I PURCHASED IT NEW. PROBLEM SEEMS TO RE-OCCUR ABOUT EVERY 5000-7000 MILES. OBVIOUSLY THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT. HAS YET TO IDENTIFY AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM AS IT KEEPS HAPPENING.Read more

HAVE HAD A ROUGH IDLE SINCE 70,000 MILES COULD NOT SOLVE PROBLEM WITH NORMAL TUNEUP PROCEDURES. TOOK ENGINE APART AT 98,000 MILES AND FOUND 2 BURNT EHHAUST VALVES .HAVE QUESTIONED OTHER OWNERS OF THIS 2.6 LITER ENGINE AND FOUND THAT MANY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM,SOME HAVE FIXED AND HAD SAME PROBLEM WITHIN 30,000 MILES. I AM FIXING MINE WITH FINGERS CROSSED. WILL UPDATE IF PROBLEM RETURNS.

I EXPERIENCED AN OIL LEAK FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE @ APPROXIMATELY THE 90,000 MILE MARK. I RECENTLY HAD THIS FIXED BY RAY FLADEBOE ISUZU (IRVINE, CA.). THE RECEIPT DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM AS: REPLACING THE V.C. GASKET, OIL LEAKS FROM ENGINE, REPLACED VALVE COVER GASKET. AFTER HAVING THIS DONE, I RESEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR ANY ISUZU ENGINE RECALLS. I CAME ACROSS "NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. # 94V132
... 000. THIS DISCUSSES A RECALL DUE TO AN ENGINE OIL LEAK (HOWEVER IT SEEMS THAT IT MAY ONLY APPLY TO THE TROOPER). I CROSSED REFERENCED THIS RECALL NOTICE WITH ANOTHER ONE. THIS OTHER ONE WAS FOUND ON THE "CONSUMER REPORTS ONLINE" PAGE. IT STATES BASICALLY THE SAME THING ONLY IT BROADENS THE MAKES AND MODELS INVOLVED. IT ADDS THE HONDA PASSPORT ('94), AND THE ISUZU RODEO ('93-94) TO THE LIST. ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE IS A 1992 ISUZU RODEO, I DID EXPERIENCE A SIGNIFICANT ENGINE OIL LEAK AT A RELATIVELY LOW MILAGE (EST. 90,000 MILES).
