This denial contradicts Kia’s own documentation, which defines the covered “short block assembly” as including pistons and piston rings, in addition to bearings and connecting rods. By refusing coverage, Kia is effectively narrowing the warranty in a way that leaves consumers unprotected, despite the campaign language. This issue raises a safety concern because excessive oil consumption and piston ring failure can lead to: Engine smoke and emissions problems, Sudden power loss, and Increased risk of engine failure while driving. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Kia’s handling of piston ring and oil consumption failures under the engine warranty extension, as Kia appears to be limiting coverage only to rod bearing failures, despite covering the entire short/long block assembly on paper. Summary: VIN covered under PI2002B/KSDS update. Engine is consuming oil and smoking due to piston ring failure. Kia refuses coverage because rod bearings passed the clearance test. They reordered the part from another Nissan retailer ensuring it matched the original part for my car. Now it’s Aug. 27th, 2025. Auto Dynamic received the correct replacement module. Unfortunately the part was replaced and the airbag light came on again. They also stated the seat would have to be replaced in order for the airbag light to go off. For around the same price. It cost me 1800.00 to find this out. * I do not have money to resolve this issue especially if the driver airbag errors next, I am fearful of the unknown driving around with the airbag light on. We were doing 45 mph down the road and it threw an error code that said “Service Hybrid Electric Vehicle System”, “Service Emergency Braking System” the Jeep then shut off and said for us to push the brake and press start for us to turn the car on in

We had to start it a couple of times to make sure it was ok to turn around and drive home. It was then towed to the dealership. They told us they could see the issue logged in the system but they could not replicate the same issue after driving it. They told us that we had to come and pick up the Jeep and I told them how unsafe that made me feel for us and everyone on the road. They told us there’s nothing they could do for us. We got the car back and another issue arose where are Passive Entry Switch became corroded and our car kept unlocking itself throughout the night. The day we got it back from them we were driving it and we got the same “Service Hybrid Electric Vehicle System” again. So I brought our Jeep back again and they told me in the service department they’ve been working with the engineers at Jeep and they are waiting for an update to fix it and it’s one of four in the area with this issue and Jeep is fully aware of the severity of the issue. They also told me they would be holding on to our car until it’s fixed. I was called by the head of the service department at that dealership and was told they need their loaner car back and they got word they’ll maybe have a fix for our car in November. They knowingly gave us our completely unsafe Jeep back and told us to try for Lemon Law - with all parties knowing the severity of the security and lives put at risk on the road. The driver’s side heater does not function correctly. When heat is turned on, the passenger side warms but the driver’s side only blows cold air. ... the electrical from front to back and again, I cannot afford that. So there’s 135,000 miles on my vehicle now and this happened about six months ago. I forgot there was a place to report it. I’m not very car savvy. Also, I had to replace my entire starting my starter, my alternator, a battery actually too and now I’m going to have to replace the switch for the ignition that’s all happened within one year or less. I was driving as normal and the passenger side airbags deployed with a cause. I was driving about 25mph. I didn’t hit anything; no event occurred that would have caused the air bag to deploy. I took the car to a dealer and they recorded the event log which showed a crash but the car clearly did not get into an accident.
