This repair fix was suppose to be available by October 2023. We are still waiting, and it seems that this could be a dangerous situation if the car stops running and oil is released and a fire starts. Our local Ford dealership seems to be in the dark about when a fix will be available. Maybe the NHTSA needs to urge Ford to hurry up and find the fix for this situation.

I own a 2016 Ford Mustang which I purchased new in February 2016. I always had issues with my rear camera working intermittently. I first started seeing notices on the internet in 2020 that Ford was issuing a recall on rear cameras. I was very happy to hear this as my camera was still only working about 1/3 of the time. In March 2022 I got a letter from Ford notifying me of the recall. They stated parts were not available at that time but I would be recontacted to schedule a repair at no cost to me when parts were available. In January 2023 I received a letter that parts were now available. But a new element was introduced for the first time. It was no longer a rear camera recall, "but repair of the 1uggage compartment wiring harness". My selling dealer was not on the list of authorized dealers for the repair so I scheduled an appointment with another local dealer who was on the list. They examined my car and said that the wiring harness was OK, but that my rear camera needed to be replaced. They said it would cost $461 for the part and labor. My camera was still working about every third time I drove it. However, since their "inspection" the camera has not worked at all. At the time of the inspection they could not complete the recall because they had to order parts for the rear wiring harness as they were not in stock. I questioned the service writer as to why my camera no longer worked at all since they had "inspected it"? He did not know. After a rainstorm while parked, noticed water on the driver side floor and dripping from the driver door side under dashboard, water coming from defective design of sunroof water drains/tubing which are clogged because the tube is too thin which traps common dirt and dust from rain and road water. ... maintenance during oil change intervals (blowing air into the tubing to unblock the clog) would likely solve this defect and car owners money. Car would not start for 2 days afterwards until all the water was dried from interior cabin. This problem repeated itself every time it rained - I had to tape the sunroof closed to prevent water ingress as a temporary measure and ultimately had the tubing replaced by the dealership at a cost of $1326.97 which was not covered by warranty. A simple inexpensive fix of adding to the scheduled maintenance at oil change intervals, the blowing of air into the tube to clear blockage would solve this pervasive problem among Infiniti cars with sunroofs ( as suggested by Infiniti service rep). Even though Infiniti knows about this problem, they chose to not alert owners to clear the tubing now and then. Infiniti benefits from this defect with huge profits having to replace the entire sunroof drains at thousands of dollar expense for owners - Another incident 10/2023, 100 miles from home, while driving down [XXX] in a massive summer downpour led to water ingress into driver side cabin and stalling of the car on the highway and car refusing to go fast. After I turned the car off, the car would not immediately start again. After drying the driver side out with paper towels, the car eventually started. I turned on the car heater at full blast and temperature to dry the car floorboard. After it was full dry the car operated correctly but creates anxiety in no knowing if the car will stall out again. I experienced 4 near-death experiences by this car. 1. 10/14/23 Car caught on fire. Car was parked and turned off. Everything inside was shut off. Estimator from my insurance couldn't identify the issue and had car taken to dealership services. I contacted Toyota corporate who claimed they would send an investigator, but he never came. Dealership replaced engine and engine harnesses that burned, and discharged car to me on 12/05/23. 2. 01/09/24 while driving on the highway at 65 mph, my engine shut off and steering wheel locked. I had a difficult time getting into the left shoulder to safety. Several system malfunction msgs displayed on dashboard. Car was towed to dealership services that evening. I had an appt for 8:15AM the next day. Servicer from Toyota dealership called me at 8:34 AM and told me to come pick up my car because they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I refused and explained the dangerous situation. Master mechanic ran more tests and couldn't find the issue so discharged the car back as is on 1/13/24. 3. 2/5/24, driving on highway at 65 mph, engine shuts off and steering wheel locked. I had a difficult time getting into the right shoulder to safety again. Several system malfunctions displayed on dashboard. Car was towed to dealership services. Servicer from Toyota calls again and tells me to pick up vehicle. They said they didn't find any issues with car. I begged them to run more tests. 2/14/24 They found "starter" part to be defected. Every single time we hit 1,000 miles (monthly) we are down over 1+ quarts of oil, with no leaks anywhere. PLS NOTE: There are quite a few MODELS and ENGINES listed in recalls or perhaps lawsuits for excessive oil consumption, our SX model 2.0L Turbo Gas Direct Injection (4 cyl) specifically is not. Over the past 7 months, we have lost over 8 quarts of oil, and have had 2 maintenance oil changes in between, part of normal maintenance.
