... e only initial indication something may be off was the "sloshing" noise that came from the engine after shutting it off. Initially, we took the car to our independent mechanic who informed us that the car was experiencing coolant intrusion into the engine and the only remedy would be to replace the engine. He shared with us that this type of engine is NOTORIOUS for this malfunction. Being as Darling's could not give us an appointment promptly, , we just kept checking the coolant levels and cautiously drove the vehicle. On May 3, I was driving when the dash lit up with "High Engine Temperature-stop safely" warnings and the gauge went from normal to all the way to H. We added coolant and this did not happen again. However, between May 3 and the date of our appointment at the dealership, May 17th, a host of new problems seemed to happen overnight. The car would not start several times both after being driven and sitting overnight. While backing down my driveway, the car stalled and wouldn't start again, luckily I wasn't in traffic. Right before our appointment and the final straw was when I was leaving for work. The car wouldn't start, so I left it for a few minutes and I was able to restart it. I drove down the street maybe a block away when all this white smoke filled the inside of the car along with pouring out the back exhaust. Darling's stated it "coded P0304, for a misfire on 4, coolant was entering cylinder 4, needs a motor". Cost to fix is more than what the car is worth and we still owe $4000 on it. The vehicle's speedometer shows an inaccurate reading, up to 7MPH less than the actual speed. This has been verified multiple times, measured against WAZE and a speedometer app. At lower speeds, i.e., less than 30MPH, the divergence between the speedometer and the true speed is 1-3MPH. The vehicle was brought into the dealership for repair but they said nothing was wrong. At that time, I was provided a loaner vehicle of the same make and model, and its speedometer matched WAZE perfectly at all speeds. I then contacted Lexus customer service, who opened up a case number. I uploaded photos and videos to Lexus documenting the problem. Lexus has now advised me by telephone (representative was "Israel") that they have closed the case based on what the dealer said, and further, that they will not recognize or rely on a third-party application such as Waze. They refused to provide me with an email or letter confirming this; all I have is a screenshot of the Lexus support platform showing the case has been closed. I believe this is a serious safety issue, and I am shocked that Lexus refuses to acknowledge or repair this. I have attached the photos provided to Lexus, screen shots of the two Lexus support cases, both stating "case closed", and the Lexus dealer invoice showing that the problem was brought to their attention (page 3 of the invoice). I am unable to upload the videos (2 x 1 minute long, one on a city street and one on an interstate) as they are larger than your system allows. If you can provide an alternate method to upload them I will be happy to do so. The vehicle is available for inspection and testing at your convenience. Analysis many DTC codes found related to this system:B2512 4WAS SIG: C1B9000 DAST SYSTEM: C1138 4WAS CIRCUIT & C1A04 ABS/TCS/VDC CIRC. Correction Recommended to perform DAST calibration first before performing further diagnosis. COST $539.15 . They also did Multi-Point Inspection items requiring immediate attention Engine Air Filter COST $94.99 GRAND TOTAL $641.64 out of pocket. 4/3/24 picked up car. On that evening drove the car and as I’m pulling up on drive way power steering goes out again. I managed to get the car in garage. Once I’m in push button to close garage doesn’t work and car dies no power at all. Able to get car started by playing with battery cables. On dealership notes car was there 30 miles ago. Now they say wrong battery size. That battery was replaced by them on 2/28/22. Also the battery just past Multi-Point 2 days ago.New battery cost $232.78 now out of pocket $874.42.This is now 4/10/24. Vehicle loses power steering at times, turn vehicle off, it works for a bit, then loses power again making if very difficult to steer, on going problem and every time take to mechanic, it is working fine, and told to bring when it is malfunctioning, hard to do that, for never know when it will, on going issue with other 07 malibus

While driving through heavy rain on the interstate Friday night the CEL came on and the vehicle immediately lost power and went I to a limo mode causing my car to rapidly lose speed while on the interstate. Restarting the vehicle did nothing. I called the closest Hyundai dealer and they said " oh yeah the N models do that a lot in the rain or through carwashes, it triggers false knock sensor codes
... , you can try to get a parts store to clear the code or you can come in tomorrow and we will clear the code." I then got a parts store to clear the code and the vehicle has been fine since. I did a quick internet search and apparently this is very common and lots of owners have this happened multiple times a year and the dealer has no fix or intention of a fixRead more
