Vehicle: 2017 Honda Accord EX Mileage at incident: Approx 30,000 Date of incident: Dec 10, 2025 Description of problem: While my daughter was driving our 2017 Honda Accord EX, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) suddenly activated without warning. The car slammed on the brakes even though there was no obstacle in front of her. This caused the vehicle to skid, but fortunately there
... was no collision or injury. There were no diagnostic codes found when inspected by an independent auto shop. The shop advised us to temporarily disable the CMBS system. This appears to be part of the ongoing issue of phantom braking in Honda vehicles, which has been reported by many owners and is currently under NHTSA investigation. I am concerned about the safety risk, especially since my daughter drives this car regularly. Safety concern: Unexpected braking at highway or city speeds could easily cause a rear-end collision or loss of control. I request that NHTSA investigate this incident and ensure Honda provides a permanent fix or recall.Read more

Component that fails & available for inspection upon request? HVAC heat exchange and faulty gas gauge. I drive from Minneapolis to Warroad, MN frequently and the floor wells has insufficient heat hence impairing use and safety in Minnesota's severe climate. I have videos on the following but I am unable to upload videos to your site: (1) when I have heat on high, full blast and to foot well ONLY
... , the dashboard vent is 115-143 degrees (using a digital food thermometer) and a ~60 degree difference with the footwell at 65-85 (although 85 degrees sounds warm at 1 degree outside my feet are very cold - I would be happy to have you test this with me). (2) Brand new SUV consistently 1.5 - 3 hrs to warm up. I explained to Hyundai this is NOT a software issue rather an HVAC air exchange issue. (3) The gas gauge consistently underestimates the remaining fuel available by 50% in cold weather - an issue that between Bemidji, MN and Baudette, MN (102 miles/1hr 45min) there are few gas stations. On 11/11/2025 I took the SUV to first Bloomington Hyundai - they said it is working as designed. Then 11/20/2025 to Morries Hyundai said they are aware of a similar situation with the EON. However, without an "error code" Hyundai is unwilling to fix the air exchange. Additionally, I opened case#: XXX[XXX] -68 with Hyundai corporate - additionally they are unwilling to admit fault - this vehicle should NOT be sold in Minnesota's extreme climate conditions. How was your safety of others put at risk? If I run out of gas, my passengers and I risk frost bite or fatality of hypothermia. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer service center? Yes. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer? Yes. Were there any warning messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning messages have ever appeared. Brakes failure. Approaching a busy intersection and facing a red light, I slowed and prepared to stop the vehicle. Nothing happened with regard to braking; instead, the engine seemed to rev up as it continued through the red-lighted intersection with 2 lanes of busy cross traffic from both directions. That there was not a collision is a miracle. I also noticed some flashing displays on the dis

My husband came and drove the car to the dealership (about 3 mi.), and during that drive, there was no braking issue but a Parking Assist readout suddenly appeared, and he was able to return the screen to the map; then a few minutes later, while driving under 20 mph near the dealership there was a notice about "maximum speed" being reached and "parking assist" being somehow reactivated. Vehicle currently at dealership for analysis. Side note: this is our second Cadillac to exhibit this problem -- there should be an NHTSA report on the first (April 2025) -- a 2013 SRX, in which there was a parking lot collision that totaled the vehicle.Read more

On November 28, 2025, I experienced a vehicle fire in my Mercedes 2020 Sprinter 2500 4WD van. The van engine was on and idling while heating up with the van heater blower on level 6 (out of 7). After about 45 minutes, I saw a haze first and then smelled smoke. Unsure of the source, I turned the vehicle off and exited with my dog. I opened the hood to look for smoke in the engine bay. No smoke unde

I grabbed the fire extinguisher I installed and put the fire out within 20-25 seconds of seeing it. I believe the root cause of the fire was running the van blower at a high setting for a sustained 45 minutes. My dog and I were inside and definitely in danger. It scares me to think of a scenario where the van was idling with only my dog inside and something like this occurring. The incident is currently under investigation with MB USA and my insurance company, Progressive. No warning signs or dashboard messages. In general, the electrical wiring for my vehicle has been spotty and was completely rewired by the dealer service center in 2021. My vehicle experienced a sudden and complete brake assist failure, including the emergency brake. I was unable to stop the vehicle, which directly resulted in a collision. Prior to the crash, the car showed no warning lights. After the accident, I had the vehicle inspected at the Hyundai dealership. The dealership stated they could not reproduce the failure and “found no issues,” which contrad
... icts the symptoms. Since the crash, I discovered two Hyundai Technical Service Bulletins that directly match the failure I experienced: TSB 23-01-036H-1 (Relates to HECU/Electronic Parking Brake failure) TSB addressing DTC C1620 (Relates to FCA Sensor/Automatic Braking malfunction) These TSBs relate to brake assist malfunction, emergency brake concerns, and similar stopping failures. The dealership did not disclose these TSBs, did not apply the corrective procedures, and cleared the car as having “no defects.” The dealership wrote “could not reproduce concern” and “no problems found,” despite the vehicle having just been in a brake-failure crash. This brake failure created a major safety risk with potential for severe injury or fatality. I am reporting this because the defect appears unresolved, the dealership denied it, and the TSBs show Hyundai is aware of brake-related issues. I request that NHTSA investigate this brake-system failure as part of a potential manufacturer safety defect. The vehicle is currently secured at the dealership (Lithia Hyundai, Las Vegas) and is available for inspection upon request by NHTSA investigators.Read more

I’m submitting this complaint to report what appears to be a serious safety-related engine issue in my 2017 Hyundai Tucson Sport 2WD with the 1.6L DI Turbo engine [T-GDI GAMMA]. I’m aware of NHTSA Recall 21V-727, which covers 2017 Hyundai Tucson models with the 2.0L engine for premature engine bearing wear. The symptoms covered by that recall are nearly identical to the symptoms my vehicle is
... now showing. My VIN shows no open recalls or service campaigns on Hyundai’s website, but the problems I’m experiencing match those found in many other consumer reports for this same year, make, and model. My vehicle has only 80,000 miles and has had regular maintenance. Examples include loud knocking from the engine that rises and falls with RPM, and metal shavings in the oil. One complaint that reflects the same pattern can be found in NHTSA ID 11680114, which describes engine knocking and metal debris with no warning lights or alerts. My vehicle has also shown no warning indicators. These issues pose a safety risk because they can lead to sudden engine failure while driving. Based on the volume of similar complaints and the overlap with the existing recall, I’m concerned that the defect may affect more than the engines currently covered under 21V-727. I’m requesting that NHTSA review this matter and determine whether Hyundai should extend or expand the recall to include vehicles equipped with the 2017 Hyundai Tucson Sport 2WD 1.6L DI Turbo DOHC 4cyl. Please investigate this issue and hold Hyundai accountable if these defects extend beyond the vehicles already listed.Read more

BBB Auto Line denied my claim only because the vehicle was outside Florida Lemon Law eligibility. No safety determination was made. Hyundai released no engineering, sensor, or camera data despite an engineering inspection. This vehicle has experienced repeated involuntary braking and acceleration at highway speed, involving braking, camera, and automatic emergency braking systems, creating a serious risk of loss of control, collision, injury, or death. Five uncommanded braking events over ~20 miles. Service Manager stated failure was due to sensor/camera malfunction and instructed that the vehicle should not be driven and to tow immediately. Despite this, the vehicle had been released into roadway operation. VIN lookup shows an open, unrepaired federal recall (24V879000 / Recall 271) for the rearview camera system, marked Recall Incomplete, despite the dealer’s documentation that recall-related camera/software work was completed on 7/16/25. Despite repeated failures, contradictory diagnostics, withheld engineering data, and an open federal recall, the vehicle was released back into public roadway operation. I request that NHTSA formally investigate this safety defect.Read more

I am submitting this complaint regarding Safety Recall 34J6, which is listed as INCOMPLETE for my 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid. I brought my vehicle to Volkswagen of Murfreesboro, Tennessee to have this recall performed. The dealership refused to complete the repair, claiming it was “too old” — a statement that is factually and legally incorrect. Federal law and NHTSA regulations require ma
... nufacturers and their dealerships to repair open safety recalls at no cost, with no expiration. The dealership’s refusal is a direct violation of these requirements and represents a serious safety risk to me and potentially to other drivers. I have already contacted Volkswagen Customer CARE, but the dealership has refused to perform the recall despite clear evidence that it remains open. Their inaction demonstrates noncompliance with federal safety regulations and unlawful denial of a mandated repair. I request that NHTSA investigate Volkswagen of Murfreesboro for refusal to perform a federally required recall, ensure that my vehicle receives the required repair immediately, and take appropriate enforcement action to prevent further violations. This behavior is unacceptable and poses a significant public safety risk.Read more
