Vehicle: 2016 Hyundai Sonata VIN: [XXX] While stopped in traffic with my foot firmly on the brake, my vehicle begins to accelerate before I release the brake pedal. This is not normal “creep” — the engine increases RPM and the vehicle moves forward as if the accelerator is being applied, even though it is not. This condition has occurred multiple times and creates a serious safety risk. T
... he vehicle surges forward, sometimes 20 mph, unexpectedly and has almost caused several collisions. This rapid acceleration can easily cause a collision with a pedestrian or the vehicle in front of me. The onboard diagnostic system repeatedly reports a camshaft position sensor fault. The sensor has been replaced, but the problem returned, indicating the issue is not the sensor itself but a deeper engine or electronic control malfunction. Because this vehicle uses electronic throttle control, I am concerned the engine control module is misinterpreting throttle and brake inputs and failing to properly apply brake-throttle override. The vehicle is effectively accelerating against the brake. This is a dangerous and unpredictable condition and represents a potential defect in the throttle/engine control system. This is clearly a safety-related issue that warrants investigation before it results in a serious crash or injury. Component that failed: The valve train system failed due to collapsed lifters in the GM 5.3L L84 engine. The lifter failure caused internal camshaft damage requiring major repair. The failed components were removed by the Chevrolet dealership and should be available through the repair facility if inspection is requested. Safety risk: The engine failure caused a sudden and severe loss of power whi
... le driving. The vehicle would not accelerate beyond approximately 45 mph on a 65 mph roadway while en route to the dealership, creating an unsafe speed differential. When attempting to accelerate to pass another vehicle on a two lane road, the engine backfired and immediately throttled back, making it unsafe to complete the pass. The check engine light illuminated at the exact moment the vehicle lost power during the passing attempt. This sudden propulsion loss during an active maneuver created a hazardous driving condition. Dealer confirmation: An authorized Chevrolet dealership diagnosed collapsed lifters which damaged the camshaft and confirmed this as a known failure pattern in GM L84 engines. Inspection by others: Vehicle was inspected and repaired by the dealership. No accident occurred, so no police or insurance inspection was involved. Warnings or symptoms: No prior warning lights appeared before the passing event. The check engine light came on during the failure while accelerating. Additional context: This failure aligns with widely documented lifter collapse defects in GM 5.3L L84 truck engines. The breakdown was not caused by maintenance or wear and tear but by premature internal component failure known across this engine platform.Read more

My vehicle has a documented excessive oil‑consumption defect. After a 1,000‑mile oil‑consumption test performed by a Hyundai dealership, the engine was found to have consumed 2.8 quarts of oil, which is far above normal and poses a safety risk. Car driving down highway at ~70 MPH with wife and our three young kids. Engine spontaneously shut off while driving. Electronic and other systems continued to function (power steering, brakes, lights, screens etc). Dangerous situation but was able to stop car in shoulder. Tried turning car on and off but car would not restart. Police were notified but did not come. Tow truck came and tuck car to a
... GMC dealer (GMC Danvers). Next day when techs arrived at dealer, they were able to start and drive car without issue. There were no present or stored fault codes other than a warning pertaining to the battery. Battery has been replaced and GMC is stating car is now safe to drive. Because issue could not be replicated by dealer and car did not store any fault codes despite the engine shut off, we question whether the issue has been correctly identified and repaired. We noted to GMC that the issue experienced was the same issue associated with the recent recall (for which the car was previously serviced). At this time we do not believe the work GMC performed under recall properly addressed the known engine shut off issue. We requested GMC and dealer perform another picoscope test to conform no issues with crank shaft. GMC refused to perform the service, despite us offering to pay for the test out of pocket. GMC is not offering any additional solutions to identify the cause of the engine shut off issue.Read more

In September of 2025 my 2022 GMC Yukon AT4 6.2L V8 passed the test for the 25V-274 recall. The dealer did necessary fix with the higher viscosity oil. As of January 6th my Yukon has been in the shop with engine failure. My Yukon needs a new engine, so clearly the fix with using higher viscosity oil did not work.

I am filing this complaint regarding my 2016 Hyundai Tucson due to excessive oil consumption. The vehicle burns oil at an abnormal rate, requiring me to add approximately one quart of engine oil every one to two weeks, even though the vehicle is driven very infrequently. This condition poses a serious safety risk because the engine could run low or completely out of oil while the vehicle is in ope
... ration, potentially causing sudden engine failure. This vehicle is used to transport my family, including children, which puts their safety at risk. I have taken the vehicle to Hyundai dealerships multiple times for full ispection , but no defect, warning, or solution was ever identified or communicated to me. There have been no warning lights or messages on the dashboard to alert me of low oil levels or engine problems, increasing the risk of failure without warning. The problem is ongoing and repeatable, and the vehicle and engine are available for inspection upon request.Read more

Once I pulled over and restarted the vehicle, it let me shift up to 3rd gear then went to some sort of safe mode and stayed between 3-5 gear. This is a known issue with Ford 2013 Trucks. When the brakes are applied during normal driving the pedal travels 2-3 inches before the brakes start to apply. During a panic stop and a strong force on the pedal it will travel almost to the floor. ABS never applies except on loose surfaces, i. e., snow, gravel and sand. I have had the vehicle to the dealer on three different occasion's for this problem. The dealer and the service technicians s
... aid it was normal, as they all do this. they bleed the brakes and it was marginally better for about 200 miles of driving, then back to the same low feel. One of those occasions there was an ABS fault and they had to reset the ABS system. After they did the reset the brakes felt a little better for a short time then back marginal again. If you tap the pedal twice in rapid succession the pedal feel is normal, as compared to other vehicles, and at the top of the pedal travel. Although with sustained foot pressure on the pedal you can push it to the floor. Again the dealer says it's normal. I tow regularly with this vehicle and because of the brake feel I travel slower and allow a much greater distance than normal.Read more

Car safely parked in driveway was turned on to defrost snow from it (no ice). When completed, drivers side mirror was cracked from corner to corner. This truck was built in June of 2016 in Michigan! Thank goodness I had access to other vehicles to drive during this issue. My 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 suffered a sudden Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure that put me in grave danger. ... elerate past 25 mph, and it felt like the car was dragging. I did not know what was happening. The “Check Electrical Vehicle System” warning returned but gave no indication of whether it was safe to drive or what to check in the electrical system. Driving very slowly, I made it out of the military base (my workplace), parked outside of a closed establishment, and called my husband. He told me to drive further up the road to a well-lit shopping area. I exited the parking lot and entered the intersection of a four-lane highway – and suddenly, when I was in the center about to turn in the direction of traffic, the car stopped and would not respond to the gas pedal. I could not accelerate and was stuck in the middle of the highway. After several frantic pushes on the gas pedal, I was able to coast downward to the shoulder and exit the vehicle. My husband and I had brought the car to the dealer in February 2025 for the December 20, 2024 ICCU recall (NHTSA Recall 24V-868, Hyundai Recall 272). The dealer merely inspected the car and updated its ICCU software. Per Hyundai guidance, it did not replace the ICCU itself. It is taking no apparent steps to do so for 2023 Ioniq 5 owners, leaving us in danger. The seriousness of this problem is compounded by the lack of adequate warning when it occurs out of the blue. The generic “Check Electrical Vehicle System” indicator on the dashboard did not indicate what precisely in the electrical system to check, how serious the issue was, or how much of the 12-volt battery power was left. Hyundai must rectify this issue before others are hurt.Read more

No accident has occurred as of yet (for my case). Ongoing issues with Hyundai left brake bulb and center brake bulb burning out due to over-amperage. It appears that these two bulbs are possibly receiving 15A and therefore burning out prematurely (3 months or less). I recently replaced these two bul
... bs at the same time, and now my battery is shorted. To keep my battery charged, I need to pull my 15A Brake Lamp fuse while the car is parked. This has now caused my ABS light to come on, as that system relies on the signal from the 15A brake lamp circuit. I suspect that some 15A components (10A+5A) received 20A (15A+5A) and welded shut. I am still looking for it to trace it down, resources are limited and I'm intent on just buying the $35 diagnostics book. Hyundai dealership did not inform me that this fuse was pulled while I drove home from the shop yesterday, creating an unsafe condition. They quoted me $500 to replace a brake lamp relay and the ABS (I'm assuming the whole ABS, but maybe just the control module), I declined. My plan for now, as this car isn't driven much, is to trace it down and find the shorted component. From my research, this is clearly affecting many years of Hyundais and Kias, not just my Elantra and not just my year. In fact, it's SO common that there are facebook groups (such as this one [XXX] ) dedicated to helping owners remedy this defect. I think a recall service, and a full investigation of what is electrically wrong with these cars, and what the actual remedy should be, is necessary based on the amount of cars that could be impacted. Incident Description (ABS Module Failure) The ABS control module is failing intermittently. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The ABS warning light illuminates unpredictably, sometimes every few minutes to every few tens of minutes. When this occurs, ABS, cruise control, and trailer brake control are disabled, making the vehicle difficult and unsafe to operate, especially whe
... n towing or driving in traffic. This failure creates a safety risk due to loss of braking and stability-related systems. The issue is a known manufacturer defect with an established repair; however, the manufacturer states that replacement ABS modules are currently unavailable due to parts backorder, with no repair timeline provided. The issue has been acknowledged by the manufacturer and dealer. No inspection by police or insurance has occurred. Based on available information, my best assessment is an intermittent ABS module failure that renders the vehicle effectively unusable. I am requesting escalation and corrective action by the manufacturer.Read more

This occurs roughly every two weeks, despite having a brand new sensor installed by Hyunda
... i. Hyundai has also allegedly performed cleaning on the sensor and related parts. This has been going on since November, when the recall that installed this update was performed.Read more
