Component/System Failed: Engine – connecting rod bearing failure consistent with Hyundai Theta II engine defect subject to federal recalls and Consent Orders. The vehicle previously received Recall Campaign 953 (KSDS software update), intended to detect premature rod bearing wear. The engine is currently knocking and has been diagnosed as requiring replacement. The vehicle and engine are availab
... le for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: Rod bearing failure can cause sudden engine seizure or stall while driving, creating a significant crash risk due to loss of power steering and braking assist. Engine failure DID occurr despite prior recall software update, indicating potential recall remedy ineffectiveness. Sudden stalling in traffic placed myself and others at risk of collision. Dealer Confirmation: Hyundai of North Charleston confirmed through warranty history a prior engine replacement request (PA) was submitted by a previous owner but denied. The recall repair was never performed. Current diagnostic findings indicate engine failure consistent with known recall defect. However, Hyundai has refused to perform further inspection or goodwill repair solely due to the vehicle’s salvage branding. Inspection History: The vehicle has been inspected by a Hyundai dealership. No engine replacement was completed. Hyundai Customer Care has updated case notes but is declining remedy based on title status rather than mechanical condition. Warning Lamps/Symptoms: The vehicle previously received KSDS software update. Engine knocking developed consistent with rod bearing wear. The software did not provide effective prevention of engine failure. The engine now requires replacement. Hyundai is refusing recall-related remedy due to salvage title (predates my wonder ship by many years), despite federal recall obligations applying to the vehicle VIN. This complaint concerns potential failure of recall remedy effectiveness and denial of defect-related inspection.Read more

Unsafe Vehicle, Unresolved Mechanical Failures – Serious Safety Concern On [XXX], I purchased a Jeep (VIN: [XXX] ) from Whipple Auto Sales. Since the purchase, the vehicle has experienced repeated mechanical failures that have created serious safety concerns. Approximately two weeks after purchase, the dealership replaced a fuel injector due to performance issues. About one month later, the v
... ehicle began showing sensor codes and experienced sudden power loss while driving. On [XXX] the vehicle completely shut off while I was traveling on the highway, placing my safety at significant risk. The dealership initially stated that the key required reprogramming. However, after keeping the vehicle for approximately one month, they were still unable to repair the issue. The dealership later claimed the problem was related to the powertrain. Without resolving the issue or providing proper notice, they returned the vehicle to my residence in worse condition than when it was left with them. At this time, the vehicle is unsafe and unreliable, and I cannot confidently operate it. This situation demonstrates a lack of proper repair, accountability, and resolution. I am extremely concerned about the safety and reliability of this vehicle and the dealership’s handling of this matter. I am seeking a proper resolution to this issue. Certified shop said my timing chain was going as well as other associated components. My car is always low on oil even when mileage has not been met. Found my car is part of piston ring recall. Dealership stated my car is not affected however the issues the shop found most certainly confirm my issue which is going to cost over $2k to fix is associated with this. Dealership not only says my car

Check engine light came on and car began making noise and not running properly on 2/7/2026 on 2/9/2026 called independent service center and car was checked out and diagnosed on 2/11/2026. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The seatbelt retraction system failed to retract fast enough, which caused the seatbelt to become jammed in the passenger door. This resulted in damage to the passenger front and back door and opening of the passenger door. Yes, the vehicle and the affected components (seatbelt assembly and passen
... ger door) are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The slow seatbelt retraction created a door jam condition, which could have prevented or delayed exit from the vehicle in an emergency situation. This posed a safety risk to the passenger, as the door could not open or close properly. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The issue has been observed by Glassman of Southfield Michigan the service men was not interested at all. In fact when I arrived to have the vehicle inspected the driver seatbelt did not retract back at all and the service guy stated, I should pay attention when unfasten my seatbelt. The guy at the collision shop stated that the seatbelt on the passenger side was not retracting back as it should. I have had two incidents with the passenger seatbelt becoming jammed in the door since I leased the vehicle in August of 2025. 4.Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. This 2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty has experienced a continuous pattern of major mechanical and electrical failures since early ownership. The vehicle required a complete engine replacement under warranty at approximately 43,626 miles. Since that time, the vehicle has continued to experience repeated injector failures, control module faults, communication errors, and voltage-related system issues. C
... urrent diagnostic codes indicate multiple simultaneous failures including ignition relay feedback circuits, control module power faults, gateway communication loss, brake system communication faults, and battery voltage circuit errors. The dealership has diagnosed a power distribution / fuse block failure at approximately 79,000 miles. These electrical failures affect multiple vehicle systems and raise concerns regarding reliability and potential safety risks due to loss of communication between control modules and possible braking system interaction. The vehicle has been in the dealership numerous times for repairs including engine replacement, injector replacement, control module reprogramming, and electrical diagnostics. I am submitting this complaint due to concern over a potential systemic electrical defect and ongoing reliability issues.Read more

Dear Commissioner and DMV Officials: I am writing to formally address a serious financial and safety concern affecting vehicle owners in Connecticut. As a driver with over 50 years of experience—32 of those in CT—I have never experienced rodent damage to any vehicle until purchasing my 2023 Hyundai Tucson. Since acquiring this vehicle, I have suffered thousands of dollars in damage from rodent
... s chewing through the wiring and wire housing. Multiple mechanics have confirmed this is due to manufacturers switching to soy-based and plant-derived biodegradable materials in wiring insulation. These materials are effectively edible, attracting rodents year-round—not just in cold months. This is not owner negligence. The root cause is a material deficiency in the vehicle's manufacturing. Consumers should not bear the financial burden of a known design choice made by the automaker. Repairs are costly, often excluded from warranties, and frequently not covered by insurance. I respectfully request the Department: Investigate the scope of rodent damage complaints linked to bio-based wiring in newer vehicles. Coordinate with NHTSA to evaluate whether this constitutes a safety defect warranting a recall. Advocate for regulatory standards requiring rodent-resistant wiring materials. Urge manufacturers like Hyundai to offer warranty coverage, reimbursement, or retrofits for affected vehicles. I am prepared to provide documentation of my repair expenses upon request. Thank you for your attention to this matter. June 2025 I paid $100 deductible plus tax & fee, totaling $110.21. Today's repair cost to be determined. In each incident there were no warning lamps or messages. Both issues began with intermittent lock/unlock failure, then escalated to complete failure within 2-3 weeks. This has caused several inconveniences of not being able to enter the vehicle through the effected doors. And now the second incident again requires waiting for repair. SUBJECT: Engine → Stall → Loss of power while driving: While driving normally, the vehicle began losing power and could not accelerate properly. The engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle repeatedly entered a reduced-power condition where it could barely maintain speed. The vehicle would stall while driving and then restart after sitting. This occurred multiple times over a period o

A dealership later stated internal engine damage was present, including a failed valve and spark plug damage. The vehicle is currently at a dealership and available for inspection. The loss of power and stalling created a safety hazard because the vehicle could not maintain normal traffic speed and could have been struck by other vehicles. My Hyundai Sonata 2023 is experiencing two recall codes. The first one was 9b1 which was resolved, but the other one is indefinite which is 286. I dropped my car off on December 4 of 2025 and a month later Hyundai’s corporate team reached out to discuss the state of my car. They asked me for things such as the payoff balance of what I owe through CarMax who I’m financing the car from, they ask

Hyundai has been unsuccessful with providing me with the solution. I’ve waited two months almost 3 months and I believe that this vehicle is a lemon and I need a solution. Hyundai took back the loaner, I have nothing now and they keep telling me they’re going to follow up, but have not followed up with anything I need help.
