I am submitting a vehicle safety complaint regarding a vehicle purchased on March 5, 2026. Within days of purchase, the vehicle exhibited multiple safety-related issues despite reportedly passing a Virginia safety inspection on February 27, 2026. The safety concerns identified include: - Driver-side headlight partially inoperable, which resulted in a traffic stop on March 15, 2026 - Front hood not
... properly secured/latching, creating a risk of opening while driving - No engine oil present upon inspection shortly after purchase - Coolant reservoir completely empty - Check engine light illuminated shortly after purchase Diagnostic testing following the check engine light revealed code P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold). A mechanic advised that this condition is not a new issue and would have developed over time, indicating that it likely existed prior to the sale of the vehicle. At the time of purchase, the vehicle had an outstanding manufacturer safety recall identified as NHTSA Recall No. 23V651000 (Recall #251), dated April 3, 2024. This recall had not been completed prior to sale and was only addressed on March 24, 2026, after I took the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership. Additionally, the vehicle was subject to a manufacturer campaign identified as Campaign #P33, dated December 15, 2025. This further indicates that the vehicle required manufacturer-related service that had not been fully addressed prior to sale. An independent inspection conducted on March 16, 2026 confirmed conditions inconsistent with a vehicle that had recently passed a safety inspection. These issues raise serious concerns about the safety, inspection integrity, and roadworthiness of the vehicle at the time it was sold. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed for potential safety-related concerns and any related violations. I am available to provide supporting documentation, including inspection reports, diagnostic results, service records, and photographic evidence.Read more

This complaint is a follow-up update to my previously filed complaint, NHTSA Complaint No. 11726321, filed on March 23, 2026, regarding two open safety recalls on my 2025 Hyundai Palisade SEL Premium, VIN [XXX] . I am filing this updated complaint to report that a SECOND failed repair attempt has now occurred on the seat belt recall (NHTSA Recall No. 25V607 / Hyundai Recall No. 283). UPDATED STA
... TUS OF SEAT BELT RECALL (25V607): First repair attempt: January 19, 2026 at Liberty Hyundai, Mahwah NJ (Invoice No. [XXX). Technician confirmed open recall. No correction made. Parts specially ordered (RC283-S8500-QQH Seat Belt Buckle Kit). Parts were not available. Second repair attempt: April 2026 at my servicing Hyundai dealer. Technician again confirmed open recall. Seat belt buckle parts remain on order and are still not available. No correction made. Two documented failed repair attempts now on record. UPDATED STATUS OF AIRBAG RECALL (26V034): As of the date of this complaint, Hyundai has still not developed a remedy for the third row airbag FMVSS 226 violation. No repair has been attempted or completed because no fix exists. This recall remains completely unresolved. SUMMARY: I purchased this vehicle on [XXX] from Maxon Hyundai, Union NJ. This is my primary and only family vehicle. I have children who regularly use the third row. After two separate dealer visits spanning more than three months, neither safety recall has been repaired. Hyundai has been unable to provide parts for the seat belt recall and has no remedy developed for the airbag recall. I am formally requesting that NHTSA: 1. The Exhaust Heat Recovery System (EHRS) has failed for the second time on this vehicle. The first failure occurred at approximately 35,000 miles and was repaired under Hyundai Technical Service Bulletin 23-EM-009H, which Hyundai issued to address this exact defect across 2020-2023 Sonata Hybrid models. The vehicle has now reached 71,000 miles and is experiencing the identical symptoms: coolant los
... s, overheating, and white exhaust smoke. The EHRS shares a coolant loop with the hybrid battery thermal management system. Coolant loss from this failure puts the hybrid battery and power electronics at risk of overheating, creating a potential fire and safety hazard. The recurring nature of this failure following an official TSB repair suggests the root cause has not been adequately addressed by Hyundai's current repair protocol.Read more

During one instance in November 2025, while attempting to accelerate to 55 mph up an incline, the hybrid battery drained enough that the vehicle was required to be pulled off the road to allow the battery to charge. During the April 2026 event, while containing a family of four (including to young children under six years of age), the vehicle failed to accelerate to 60 mph up an incline on an interstate freeway bridge. The vehicle rapidly slowed to between 20 and 30 mph, putting the family in grave danger from high-speed collisions. Following both instances, the on-board diagnostics computer was reset, “resolving the issue” and the Hyundai technicians elected to make no further repairs or replacements. The onboard diagnostics code P0191 was reported following the April 2026 event, however no codes or errors were identified by the Hyundai technician following the November 2025 event. On [XXX], my 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 experienced a sudden and complete failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). The failure rendered the vehicle inoperable without warning, requiring it to be towed to a dealership. The vehicle is currently located at AutoNation Hyundai in North Richland Hills, TX and should be available for inspection upon request. This failure created a significant s
... afety risk. The vehicle lost functionality unexpectedly, which could have resulted in a dangerous situation if it had occurred at highway speeds, in traffic, or in an unsafe location. A sudden loss of power or inability to restart the vehicle presents a clear hazard to both the driver and others on the road. Prior to the failure, there were no clear warnings indicating an imminent critical issue. A 12V battery issue was suspected at the time of failure, and roadside assistance replaced the battery, but this did not resolve the problem. The root cause was later identified as an ICCU failure. The problem has been confirmed by an authorized Hyundai dealership (AutoNation Hyundai, North Richland Hills, TX) on April 10, 2026. The dealership determined that the ICCU requires replacement, with an estimated minimum repair timeline of four weeks due to part availability. The vehicle has been inspected by Hyundai roadside assistance and an authorized Hyundai dealer. No inspection has been conducted yet by the manufacturer directly, law enforcement, or insurance representatives. This issue appears to be consistent with widely reported ICCU failures in Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles, suggesting a potential systemic defect that may warrant further investigation and possible recall action. ... ack up after me pushing the button multiple times. The seats not returning to an upright position with pressing the button, has happened multiple times. I never received notification that there are safety recalls on my vehicle. The reason I was given by Hyundai was that I didn't receive the notifications was because I didn't purchase my car from a Hyundai dealership. I am extremely concerned for the safety of my children in my vehicle. I tried to get the seatbelt recall repaired on 4/11/26, but the dealership didn't give me a loaner vehicle, as the Hyundai care center had instructed them to do. I called back to the same dealership today, and they were only able to give me a 4 door car ( Hyundai Sonata). This vehicle doesn't have enough seats for my children. There were no warning messages prior to the malfunction.Read more

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not formally diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was a crack in the engine, causin
... g a leak. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,825.Read more

I have the video BUT I AM UNSURE how to upload or share Incident Description: The vehicle is experiencing intermittent, complete engine stalls while in motion at highway speeds. The failure has occurred four times. Initial Symptom: The issue first manifested as "stuttering" and erratic behavior from the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) which I thought it was. Escalation: The vehicle has
... since progressed to a total loss of power. During these incidents, I was forced to pull over on high-speed corridors (Hwy 46 and Hwy 5) to restart the vehicle. Recurring Pattern: Most recently, after a stall and restart, the vehicle stalled again within a few blocks. I have captured video evidence of the stall occurring immediately after the vehicle was "reset" and put back into motion. Safety Concern: This is a life-threatening defect. The vehicle loses propulsion without warning in high-speed traffic. The manufacturer’s service department (Hyundai) has been unable to identify a diagnostic fault code, citing "No Problem Found," and has only attempted a software/values reset, which has failed to correct the physical stalling.Read more

In January 2026, my engine light illuminated and the vehicle lost power. The dealership found a sudden loss of compression across all four cylinders, requiring a total engine replacement. This occurred without warning, only two months after a routine oil change at the same facility where no issues were reported. Despite opening a case with Hyundai corporate, there has been no progress. My researc
... h indicates that while NHTSA Recall 21V301 (Safety Recall 203) specifies 2019–2021 models, the 2022 model shares the same engine design and identical reports of stalling and compression loss. My vehicle has been at the dealership for three months with no resolution. The dealership says they are running tests requested by tech line without providing documentation of the tests or the results. Although, the initial test performed indicated that it was a compression ring issue.Read more

While charging my vehicle at home using a level 2 charger, the ICCU failed. When it failed, it caused a power surge and my level 2 charger “exploded.” It also caused the master breaker to trip, cutting the power off to my entire house. The vehicle no longer charges, will not drive over 25mph and has to be towed to a dealership for repair. Also, the level 2 charger is fried and no longer works.

The sunroof exploded while driving down the road. No other vehicles were within 100m of us. It sounded like a shotgun going off. Immediately pulled over to assess the damage and found almost no glass inside the car. The glass that was surrounding the break was protruding upward as if it had been building pressure from the inside of the car. Vehicle is available for inspection. I was swerving all o
... ver the road ducking my head thinking I had been shot at (combat vet). Im guessing the glass that wasn't found inside the car hit the road behind us but no other vehicles were around us at the time. If someone would have been behind us, they would have gotten peppered with broken glass. Dealer has not been notified yet but have seen many reports of the same thing happening to other people online. No one else has inspected the damage at this time. No warnings or messages were given prior to but im sure thats impossible. Temperature today has been between 30 and 40 degrees F. No major or rapid changes within the last few days.Read more

My 2019 Hyundai Sonata has been experiencing excessive oil consumption since I purchased it. ... n problem. I was also informed that the engine would only be replaced under warranty if it fails completely, such as through connecting rod bearing damage. This means I am expected to continue driving a vehicle that may suddenly fail without warning. I drive daily with my children, and I am concerned about the risk of sudden engine failure, loss of power, or engine seizure while driving, which could lead to a serious accident. I believe this is a known issue with these engines, and it represents a significant safety hazard that should be addressed before a catastrophic failure occurs.Read more
