While driving on my 2026 Palisade Calligraphy over last 6 months I lost all throttle/ gas response to engine on 12 separate occasions. The 3rd incident nearly resulted in serious crash in 55mph traffic. Went to dealer next day on 11/15 ref# 41788829 service found no codes, reset system and recommended a flight recorder to help diagnose. Filed with NHTSA on 12/3 after next incident ref # 11702738. R
... equested flight recorder multiple times with dealer and Hyundai case manager and after multiple visits, diagnostic drives and component replacement on 1/20 and 2/23 the dead throttle continued. On 4/7 I was finally issued recorder and captured 3 incidents of the problem that could not exist within 2 days. Dealer acknowledged problem and says they can not fix without help from Hyundai engineers. Hyundai will not buy back and tell me to go back to dealer for resolution. Dealer claims to have submitted all relevant info to Hyundai but will not produce requested paperwork to me for most of visits (illegal? ). I have been assigned 3 separate case managers who try to assign new case #42539227 and separate it from initial ref # 41788829 while denying buyback with documentation they refuse to share. I am driving an unsafe and dangerous suv with 3 clearly documented Hyundai flight recorder incidents and acknowledged safety issue.Read more

Component: TIRES Tire Brand: Pirelli Model: Scorpion (255/45R20) Vehicle: 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy Complaint Description: I have experienced two separate failures of the right‑rear Pirelli Scorpion 20" tire on my 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy within a four‑week period. Both failures occurred during normal driving on paved roads with no significant impact event. The first failu
... re was a loss of air due to a puncture in the sidewall area. I was able to use the on board sealant kit to sufficiently repair the tire and get it to Belle Tire. The tire was replaced as the damage was on the sidewall on May 5, 2026. On June 6, 2026 while driving on HWY 75 in Ohio, the replacement tire on the same right‑rear corner also failed, again losing air rapidly and causing us to pull over to the side of the highway. Both failures occurred at low mileage and under normal driving conditions with no impact. This pattern suggests a potential safety‑related defect involving the OEM Pirelli Scorpion 255/45R20 tires used on the Santa Fe Calligraphy. I have since learned that many other owners of 2024–2025 Hyundai Santa Fe models equipped with these same 20" Pirelli Scorpion tires are reporting sidewall punctures, bulges, and repeated failures, often on the passenger‑side tires. Repeated tire failures on the same wheel position pose a serious safety risk, including the possibility of sudden blowouts at highway speeds. I am reporting this so NHTSA can investigate whether these tires or their application on this vehicle are defective.Read more

The sudden loss of power could easily result in a rear-end collision or other serious accident because the vehicle is unable to accelerate normally and traffic may not have enough time to react. My vehicle currently has approximately 69,000 miles and is within Hyundai’s hybrid system warranty period. I believe this issue represents a significant safety risk and should be investigated, as other Hyundai Elantra Hybrid owners have reported similar failures. I am requesting that this issue be reviewed due to the potential danger it poses to drivers and the public. Mileage at failure: Approximately 69,000 miles.Read more

I filed a complaint when the first engine seized. It's a miracle we got off the road safely that day. While it was at the dealership, the engine was replaced with a used engine and covered by my extended warranty from Vroom. I believe the cost was approximately $14,000. I was told the engine had around 30,000 miles on it. I've put around 20,000 miles on this engine and the same thing happened agai
... n. This time, the engine had been knocking for a few months. When it started knocking, I took it to the dealership because the new extended warranty by Hyundai was in effect and I assumed it would be covered. Immediately, Autonation Hyundai in Savannah, GA said it would not be covered because it was a used engine. I don't understand why when the engine can be traced and the mileage known by the number on the engine. On XXX, my [XXX] granddaughter took her driving test in the vehicle. About 2 hours later, the engine seized with her driving. We were on the same road and it was about the same time of day. Once again, it was a miracle we got off the road safely. I just talked to Hyundai and we'll see what they say. From the stories I've seen, they'll do anything they can to avoid covering these engines and they get away with it. The people who get hurt the most from this are the ones who can least afford it. I'm a [XXX] widow raising my 5 grandchildren by myself and believed I was getting a good vehicle, mainly due to the report by Consumer Reports magazine. Even after the first engine failed and was replaced, I still wasn't in a financial position to get another vehicle and assumed if something happened again, it would be covered under the extended warranty Hyundai was made to provide. Obviously, that means nothing. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

... ion into the dangerous and ongoing mechanical failures involving my 2017 Hyundai Sonata equipped with the Theta II engine. I believe this vehicle contains a serious manufacturing and/or engineering defect that presents a substantial safety hazard to consumers. My vehicle has experienced a pattern of progressive mechanical failure beginning with abnormal and excessive oil consumption, which appears to be directly associated with malfunctioning engine airflow and intake-related components. Specifically, the lower engine airflow system and intake functionality appear defective, placing excessive strain on the intake manifold system and contributing to cascading engine failures. As a result of these failures, the vehicle has experienced: Severe and excessive oil burning/consumption Intake manifold malfunction and abnormal operating stress Suspected overheating and/or premature head gasket failure Ignition coil failure and electrical shorting/misfires Progressive engine deterioration rendering the vehicle unsafe and unreliable Increased risk of sudden engine shutdown, stalling, fire hazard, or catastrophic engine failure while operating The vehicle has become increasingly unreliable and inoperable due to these conditions. These failures raise significant concerns regarding public safety, especially given the known history of complaints and recalls associated with Hyundai Theta II engine defects. I am deeply concerned that this vehicle may reflect a broader pattern of defective manufacturing, insufficient quality control. Component: the second-row power seat and its control system, including the pinch-protection function, on a 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid. The seat and vehicle are available for inspection on request. After the recall remedy (software update) for NHTSA Recall 296 (power seats) was applied, the second-row power seat self-actuates a rearward over-extension. When its pinch protection detects a car seat
... installed in the second row, the seat moves rearward on its own, further into the third row, and cannot be stopped once it starts. This sharply reduces third-row legroom and can squeeze or harm a third-row occupant. Safety risk: On April 21, 2026, while an adult operated the second-row seat to make enough room to reach into the seat, the seat — instead of stopping once the buttons were released — kept moving rearward on its own, past its original position and into the third-row foot and leg space, compressing and hurting the child's legs and feet. The movement was automatic, gave no warning, and could not be halted, creating a crushing and pinching hazard to any person or object behind the seat. Reproduced and inspected: A franchised Hyundai dealer inspected the vehicle and reproduced this behavior per Hyundai's Safety Team's request. Per the official repair order, the seat "over-extends approximately 15 degrees further into the third row," "cannot be stopped from moving to the extended position," and creates a smaller third-row area that "could potentially harm or squeeze an occupant in the third row." Warning indicators prior to failure: none.Read more

I am submitting a safety complaint regarding the panoramic sunroof assembly on my 2021 Hyundai Palisade. The vehicle was purchased as a Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in September 2023 with approximately 27,000 miles. The panoramic sunroof had only been opened approximately two or three times since purchase when the failure occurred. During normal operation, the sunroof wind deflector/visor
... malfunctioned and jammed inside the mechanism. This caused the pulleys and track assembly to bind and pull the glass panel out of position, damaging and breaking the sunroof track/mechanism. The dealer diagnosed the failure as a broken sunroof track/mechanism assembly requiring extensive repair estimated at approximately $4,000. This failure appears to directly match Hyundai Technical Service Bulletin 23-BD-003H-1, which acknowledges that the sunroof wind deflector may malfunction and damage the sunroof mechanism on 2020–2022 Hyundai Palisade vehicles. Hyundai issued this bulletin before I purchased the vehicle as Certified Pre-Owned. My concern is that this is a known recurring mechanical defect involving the panoramic roof assembly that could create a safety hazard if the mechanism jams, detaches components, shifts the glass panel unexpectedly, or causes the roof to fail while driving. The failure also caused the panoramic sunroof to become stuck open while driving. This created excessive rattling and vibration noise at highway speeds, which was distracting during vehicle operation and raised concerns about the stability of the sunroof assembly while in motion. Because the roof could not be properly closed or secured, the defect also exposed the interior of the vehicle to possible rain intrusion and additional electrical or interior damage. The sunroof was not abused or damaged externally. The failure occurred during ordinary use and after very limited operation of the sunroof since purchase.Read more

To Whom It May Concern: I am submitting this complaint to report ongoing safety concerns involving my 2013 Hyundai Sonata. I purchased this vehicle in 2022 through financing and paid it off in 2025. Since acquiring the vehicle, I have experienced persistent mechanical issues that I believe may pose a safety risk to myself, my child, and others on the road. The most concerning issue involves the
... braking system. I have had the brakes replaced and serviced multiple times, yet the brakes begin grinding again within a very short period, including an instance where the grinding returned approximately one month after replacement. Despite spending money on repairs, the problem continues to reoccur. I am concerned that there may be an underlying defect affecting the braking system that is not being properly identified or corrected through normal maintenance. In addition, the vehicle consumes an excessive amount of oil, requiring frequent monitoring and replacement between oil changes. I am concerned that this issue could potentially lead to engine failure or other dangerous mechanical problems while the vehicle is being operated. As a single mother, I rely on this vehicle daily for transportation to and from work and for caring for my family. I have experienced significant financial hardship attempting to keep the vehicle operational and safe. Despite my efforts to maintain the vehicle, these issues continue to occur. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration review this complaint and determine whether these issues may be related to known defects, recalls, investigations, or patterns reported by other owners of 2013 Hyundai Sonata vehicles. I am willing to provide maintenance records, repair invoices, mileage information, and any additional documentation that may assist in evaluating this matter. Thank you for your attention to this complaint and for your commitment to vehicle safety.Read more

Despite the documented severe oil loss—which is the primary known cause of connecting rod bearing wear and sudden engine seizure—Hyundai Corporate (Case #XXX) is refusing to evaluate the vehicle under these warranties. They have improperly classified my claim as a denied "goodwill" request and are refusing to perform a connecting rod bearing clearance test to determine if the bearings have been damaged by this starvation. Because Hyundai refuses to perform the required diagnostic safety protocols, the vehicle must be driven in an oil-starved condition. This poses an imminent and severe safety risk of sudden engine seizure, stalling, and complete loss of motive power at highway speeds without warning, which could result in a catastrophic crash. My car was in shop for Smog inspection and failed. Mechanic told me that the most likely reason was that the engine has issues related to failing crankshaft position sensor which triggered the check engine light. He further explained that the engine with this condition will have abnormal oil consumption. My experience is that is exactly what I wondered. No smoke in the exhaust, no oil leaks under
... the hood and no oil on the parking space at home nor work. Mechanic recommended I take the car to Hyundai dealer in Folsom. The service department there diagnosed my car and did not find fault with crankshaft position sensor but did find that there is a problem with timing mechanisms. They also said that the engine has difficulty starting, which I never experienced in over 50,000 I have driven it, save the time of battery replacement about 2 years ago. I decided to take my car back to my mechanic where he diagnosed it with timing issues. The abnormal engine noise was accounted for as a link to timing. In the interim I drive a rental at the rate of about $65.00 /day. I m in a quandary; if my mechanic repairs the timing issues, which may not be under warranty, does that invalidate the existing engine warranty? If I can get the warranty to cover the ongoing issues, we can save ourselves wasting time and money. If safety concerns are a priority, which is not, then we cannot sacrifice safety in the interest of celerity. In the meantime, my family are in the crossroads and I cannot accept that.Read more

Car has only 3307 miles and incurred a DTC P1A9096. This meant the vehicle only had power from the 12 volt battery, not traction battery. Luckily, the event happened 3 miles from home and we were able to just make it. Next day upon calling for flatbed tow service, the car generated an additional DTC P05616. 12 volt battery was exhausted and nothing functioned on the car. Had to then call for a
... different tow truck with dollies. The failure of the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) was a cause for recall on earlier year's models. This is a major safety issue as failure of the ICCU leaves you stranded with an inoperable vehicle where you cannot even lock the doors. Currently, the vehicle is at the dealer (Lithia Hyundai of Anchorage) for repair.Read more

2026 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy Hybrid, VIN: [XXX]. Two original equipment Pirelli Scorpion MS 265/45 R21 108V tires developed sidewall bulges within 4,582 miles of normal road use, all within 5 days of each other. No off-road driving. No significant impacts. Vehicle was brand new. Failures: front left, rear left, and both right side tires within the same week (blew up as a parked to the curb on
... the low speed-and where dismissed at the Americas tire as an impact damage) Two tires submitted for Pirelli warranty inspection: Tire 1: Beltran Tires, Modesto CA. Pirelli claim #XXX. Denied via customer service email only — no technical report, no inspector name, no methodology provided. Conclusion: "ply breakage due to impact." Tire 2: America's Tire, Seaside CA. Delivered to Pirelli facility McDonough GA, Feb 26 2025, UPS #[XXX]. No determination issued to date. Dealer refused tire submission for weeks. Corporate escalation and Pirelli technical intervention required before pickup occurred. Out of pocket costs: $420 (Beltran, mileage confirmed 4,582) and $2,387.57 (4x Michelin replacement, America's Tire order #XXX). Total loss: $2,807.57. Also my vehicle had to be towed and I had to pay out of pocket for that as well. Four sidewall failures under 5,000 miles on a new vehicle is a potential manufacturing defect and highway safety risk. Pirelli's denial lacks technical documentation. Requesting NHTSA investigate Pirelli Scorpion MS OE tires on 2026 Hyundai Palisade as possible defect pattern. I recently purchased a 2020 Hyundai Tucson with a Nu 2.0 GDI engine. Shortly after purchase the engine completely failed and requires full replacement. When taken to a Hyundai dealership, they pulled an internal STUI report showing A95 branding, meaning Hyundai had previously denied warranty coverage blaming the prior owner for outside influence. This A95 designation does not appear on any consume
... r vehicle history report including Carfax or AutoCheck. I paid $13,500 for this vehicle with no knowledge of this engine history. The Nu 2.0 GDI engine in this vehicle is specifically named in Hyundai’s class action settlement. Hyundai is using internal branding to avoid responsibility for a known manufacturing defect while allowing these vehicles to re-enter the used car market with clean vehicle history reports, leaving consumers completely unprotected.Read more

Pressed button to open glass sunroof and glass panel crookedly began opening with one side opening farther than the other until it stopped midway with a loud grinding noise. It stopped crooked in the tracks. It would not open. It would not completely close and the rear was left protruding above the roof line. There was nothing holding the back of the glass panel to the tracks. I could lift the bac
... k freely. A strong gust of wind or a passing truck could lift the panel. If the glass panel were to separate from the vehicle, a displaced panel could increase the potential of a crash or injury to other road users. I did not feel it was safe to drive it on the highway and took it to the Hyundai dealer where it sat until repaired on 4/7/2026 with redesigned deflector attachments, carriage bars and driving wedges. Hyundai TSB 23-BD-003H-1 describes this cascading failure of the defective air deflector breaking apart and damaging the sunroof tracks and specifies redesigned parts but fails to take in consideration that the glass panel is not held firmly in place once the connection between panel and tracks have failed. Prior to the sunroof’s failure I was unaware that a TBS had been issued. I had only opened the sunroof about a dozen times and received no warning of the failure. Subaru has issued a vehicle recall 26V346 which also results in a loose glass roof as a recognized safety risk including crash, fire, health, injury. Please encourage Hyundai to recognize the safety risk of a potential crash or injury to other road users of a loose glass sunroof as Subaru has and not as a warranty issue.Read more

I am writing to formally request reconsideration of Hyundai’s denial of assistance for the transmission failure in my 2021 Hyundai Palisade. I purchased this vehicle with the expectation that Hyundai vehicles are built to provide dependable transportation and that major components such as the transmission would last well beyond the current mileage and age of the vehicle. Unfortunately, I have e
... xperienced a significant transmission failure that has resulted in substantial repair costs. I have made every effort to properly maintain this vehicle and have acted responsibly as an owner. Given the relatively recent model year of the vehicle, I believe a transmission failure of this magnitude is unreasonable and may indicate a defect in materials or workmanship. I respectfully request that Hyundai review my case again and consider providing goodwill assistance, cost-sharing, or full coverage of the transmission repair. As a long-time consumer, I am extremely disappointed with the current outcome and hope Hyundai will stand behind its product. I would appreciate a written response explaining the reason for the denial and any options available for further review.Read more

The shift-by-wire system failed while the vehicle was being parked. The vehicle would not shift out of Drive; repeated attempts to engage Park resulted in Neutral only, with a "PARK malfunction. Engage parking brake when parking vehicle." warning displayed in the instrument cluster. Because this vehicle requires Park to be engaged before it can be powered off, the vehicle also could not be turned
... off. I was trapped with an energized vehicle that could not be secured in Park or shut down for approximately 30 minutes. A red 12-volt battery warning lamp was illuminated in the instrument cluster during the event (photo attached showing the malfunction message, Neutral gear state, and battery warning lamp). I secured the vehicle using the electronic parking brake. Safety risk: a vehicle that cannot engage Park or power off risks rollaway and leaves the driver unable to safely exit and secure the vehicle, particularly on a grade or in traffic. This is the second occurrence of a shift-to-park failure on this vehicle. The vehicle was previously taken to an authorized dealer for the same symptom; the dealer cleared diagnostic codes without repair and the problem recurred. The vehicle is scheduled for further dealer diagnosis and is available for inspection upon request. The ICCU recall remedy (Recall 272) was previously completed on this vehicle per the manufacturer's campaign records.Read more
