My wife and I bought a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, and the car has performed admirably over the last 4 to 5 years. Within the last month, the car started having stuttering issues and we took the car to our local shop, where we asked for a quick check and an oil change. The local shop reported that we had a Crank Shaft Advance error code, and that the car did not have much oil in it. We have
... not seen major oil loss between oil changes before, which concerned me. Once the car was full on oil the error codes cleared and the car worked well over the next few weeks. Oil levels seemed good during that time, but my wife took the car out to New York and back, then a trip into Boston (around 600 miles overall). On the way back from Boston, the engine stalled and would not start. We sent the car to be checked at a local Pep Boys, they performed a borescope and believed that the engine needed replacement. I contacted Autofair Hyundai and had the car towed there to service under Hyundai TSB 24-EM-007H. [XXX] >> The dealership mentioned that the diagnostics would cost ~200 dollars and detailed a number of error codes (low fuel flow, crankshaft advance, etc.). They then quoted a $8,000 to make the repairs and then they could check to see if the car met any warranty requirements. I opened a ticket with Hyundai and the ticket was closed. I’ve gotten my horn replaced for the second straight time in the past year. Currently at the dealership and service advisors here at West Herr Hyundai in Williamsville state many horns go bad as of today they’ve replaced 7 of them.

When approaching a turn, I let off the accelerator but the car didn’t stop accelerating. Instead, it gently kept accelerating. I applied the brakes and the car started slowing down but not at the same rate I was applying brake pressure. Therefore I floored the brakes to try coming to a complete stop. Sadly, the cars ABS system did not engage, half of the car hopped over the curb at about 20 mph.
... I was able to steer the car back onto the road where it finally came to a stop but acted like it wanted to keep going until full blackout power loss happened. The car was deemed a total loss by my insurance company American Family. Essentially, the vehicle malfunctioned causing the accelerator to stick which caused the car to be harder to control than designed. The car malfunctioned by not engaging the ABS system as well. There is a recall on this exact problem for the 2017-2019 model but not for my 2020 even though it was manufactured during that campaign. It all happened very quickly and I was very lucky this did not involve another vehicle.Read more

Seat belt on front passenger seat randomly comes unlatched while driving. I asked my dealership to review this in May 2024 and then again in 1/2025 as it keeps happening. My engine stalls while driving. Now engine is knocking real loud. Then stall again. My safety and others drivers safety because my engine stalls could cause a crash, wreck. I have made an appointment with a dealer to have my seatbelt replaced in 2 weeks. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. Air bag warning has come on due to malfunctioning clockspring. Went to dealership and realized it is not under extended 15 year warranty. Even though, 2011-2013 Sonatas, Elantras, and 2011-2014 HYBRID Sonatas are covered. Being so close in years this is disappointing to learn that the warranty was cut off, although it obviously seems to be an ongoing problem.

Every time I go up a hill the slippery road light comes up. It’s hard to drive straight. I have to drive under the speed limit going up hills. Sometimes it won’t even let me park. I hear rattling when I drive over a certain speed limit. When I brake I feel the brake pad pushing back. And now my wheels are making noise when I turn them.
