My research shows that 2017-2018 are known to have steering issues: A Honda steering gearbox magnet, specifically related to the electronic power steering (EPS) system, has been identified as a potential issue in certain Honda Civic and CR-V models (2017-2018). After putting the car into several gears and pressing the start button twice, it eventually started. A display messages appeared only when the car would not start. I believe it said to put the car into neutral. If the car failed to start, it would have been stuck at a major intersection posing danger to ourselves and fellow drivers. Previously, when the feature stopped working, we reported the issue to our local Honda dealer and they did not offer a solution but said there are a number of factors that could cause it to not operate. We didn't mind it wasn't working because we loathe it. Later we purchased a new battery and it started working again. Also previous to [XXX], we updated the software system. We were aware that there was an update for this issue. To ensure we have the update, I checked it again, today, 8-10-2025 and our software was up to date. We (my wife and I) were so alarmed by yesterday's operation failure that we are considering getting rid of the vehicle. However, we don't want to pass the problem onto someone else. I recently purchased this car and just took it on our first highway trip of about 1100 miles. I experienced Three Problems that are a safety concern. 1. "Need to take a Coffee Break Notification." When driving in the mountains, there are times when the signal is lost, the cruise control stops working, the car emits a noise signally a problem, my wife screams, I lose concentration on what is going on as the car decelerates quickly and the semi truck behind me comes very close to the rear of the car. Potential accident caused by this silly system. There is no way to disable "adaptive cruise control" and resort to a system that does not rely on outside communication. ... Stability Assist (VSA) Problem The engine won't start, leaving me stranded in the middle of an active intersection. I attempted to restart the vehicle multiple times with no success. Police responded to the scene, confirmed the vehicle could not be driven, and a tow truck transported it to a nearby Honda dealership. The tow truck driver suspected an alternator failure, but the dealer’s inspection the next day could not reproduce the issue. They reported that the alternator and battery “tested fine” and that no trouble codes were stored in the ECU. No repairs were performed, and no cause was identified. Safety Concern: This incident created an immediate traffic hazard. The vehicle’s sudden loss of propulsion in traffic, combined with the inability to restart, could easily have caused a collision. Multiple critical systems were reported as failed simultaneously, indicating a possible electrical, fuel system, or control module failure. Although the PIM & BATTERY are under WARRANTY, Chrysler is refusing to reimburse me any of the tow fees & only 20 days of a rental I have now had for a month. The dealership installed the PIM which cleared a couple of codes, but not all. They installed ANOTHER new 12v battery, which was immediately drained. They have ordered another coolant something or other for the battery & here we are. I attempted in 2022 to retain a lemon law lawyer but he gave up very easily once Chrysler just stopped answering him.he said because I had my car updated under the class action lawsuit Moran is Chrysler FCA et Al, I was not able to continue under Lemon Law. I have not been able to find a lawyer, even one from the Class Action Lawsuit, to assist me in fighting Chrysler to do something to make me whole. My vehicle needs to be inspected in less than 40 days but at this point my 5 yr old vehicle can NOT pass the Pa inspection, so what am I supposed to do? Steering wheel rotation does not match front wheel steering angle. When stationary, turning the steering to full lock causes the body to rise; releasing it causes it to drop. Attempts to repair at Toyota of Manhattan (June 2025 – August 2025) were unsuccessful. The dealership repeatedly refused to perform proper inspections, provide reports, or acknowledge the defect, despite multiple appointments and a case opened with Toyota corporate. The defect presents a serious safety risk: reduced vehicle stability, increased stopping distance, loss of steering control during maneuvers, excessive and uneven tire wear, and abnormal fuel consumption (13.5 MPG with no load).
