Engine failure while on highway traffic in construction zone caused engine shut off, losing power steering and odd braking. I was driving on a split 4 lane highway (2 lanes each direction), with a large ditch median between the directional lanes. My direction had construction cones for several miles limiting traffic to 1 lane, still at a 65 MPH speed limit with heavy semi traffic. The right
... lane was closed for construction, so all traffic was lined in left lane, though maintaining the speed limit. A few hundred yards into the construction my check engine light came on, and then after a minute or so it started blinking but there was no place to pull over safely. I reduced speed and semi traffic was lining up behind me. Then the engine and rest of car shut off, losing power steering. I ended up weaving into the construction part and was finally able to stop but not without danger to myself and others. Motor would restart but sounded terrible and I did not feel safe driving further and did not have faith it would make it far, especially since I'd have to re-enter the highway construction traffic. I had it towed to local mechanic, who diagnosed the problem as a piston rod bearing spin/stuck, or in other words a spun/slipped rod/crank bearing.Read more

I own a 2014 Honda Pilot that experienced an engine misfire related to piston ring deterioration. An authorized Honda dealership diagnosed and documented qualifying engine misfire codes (P030X). After the misfire occurred, we stopped driving the vehicle due to safety concerns, including risk of loss of power or stalling. While the vehicle was not being driven, the battery failed and cleared diagn
... ostic memory. Honda has acknowledged the prior diagnosis but refuses to perform the repair unless the vehicle is driven until the misfire occurs again and diagnostic codes are active at the time of service. Honda is requiring operation of a vehicle with a known intermittent engine defect to re-verify the condition. We believe this creates a safety risk by encouraging operation of a vehicle that may experience sudden misfire, loss of power, or stalling. We do not feel it is safe to drive the vehicle to intentionally reproduce the defect.Read more

The transmission in my 2019 Honda Odyssey failed prematurely at approximately 102,800 miles, requiring a full transmission repair/replacement. Prior to failure, the vehicle exhibited known warning symptoms including harsh and erratic shifting, hesitation, delayed engagement, and loss of smooth acceleration. These symptoms progressively worsened and ultimately resulted in unsafe drivability. This
... failure is consistent with a well-documented pattern of transmission defects affecting 2018–2019 Honda Odyssey models. Numerous owners have reported similar issues through NHTSA complaints and Honda service channels. A transmission failure at this mileage is not consistent with reasonable consumer expectations for a modern vehicle and presents a safety concern due to unpredictable shifting behavior, hesitation during acceleration, and loss of drivability. These issues increase the risk of collision, particularly when merging, accelerating from stops, or driving in traffic. Honda has declined assistance solely on the basis that the vehicle is outside the powertrain warranty, despite the failure aligning with known defect patterns rather than normal wear and tear. I am submitting this complaint to document a recurring defect and request further investigation into premature transmission failures in this model year. After receiving a replacement transmission in my 2019 Honda Odyssey, the vehicle continues to experience the same failure symptoms: harsh shifting, delayed engagement, and intermittent slipping. These ongoing issues indicate that the replacement transmission did not fully correct the underlying defect, which is consistent with other complaints submitted to NHTSA regarding 2018–2019 Odyssey models. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this recurring defect and track the persistent issues associated with replacement transmissions in this model year.Read more

My car was impacted by the exact issue impacting Honda HRV's manufactured in 2022, but my VIN does not show that I am eligible. This is a mistake and I would ask NHTSA to investigate other 2022 HRVs which may be impacted by this recall (information posted below). Summary American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2019-2022 model year HR-V vehicles. The power circuit in the display
... audio unit was improperly designed. When the engine is started with an ignition key, the cranking can cause the battery's state of charge to drop, which may prevent the display audio from booting up, resulting in the failure to display the rearview camera image. Additionally, vehicles previously repaired with the initial software update received a version that insufficiently corrected the display audio unit boot up procedure, resulting in the failure to display the rearview camera image. Safety Risk If the display audio unit does not boot up, the rearview camera image will not display, which may affect the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash or injury. Remedy Registered owners of all affected vehicles (including previously repaired vehicles) will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will reprogram the display audio unit with updated software containing the proper boot up procedure. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. For additional questions, owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at [XXX] . I am reporting multiple safety-related failures with my 2025 Honda Prologue. The vehicle has an unresolved drivetrain/axle defect that affects safe operation, and the dealer has stated that axle components are on backorder with no repair timeline. In addition, the main vehicle control screen completely blacked out and will not turn back on. This screen controls critical vehicle and charging funct

Further, the charging port sensor failed to alert me that the charging port was open. Because no warning was provided, the port remained open and subsequently broke. This represents a failure of a safety-related sensor system that directly impacts the vehicle’s ability to charge and operate properly. The dealer has not provided a loaner vehicle or alternative transportation despite the vehicle being unsafe to operate. These combined defects substantially impair the safety, use, and value of the vehicle.Read more

The vehicle began experiencing repeated engine misfires, hesitation, and loss of power during normal driving. The issue was diagnosed as failing fuel injectors, which is a known issue on this generation of Honda CR-V. The failure causes sudden hesitation and reduced engine power, particularly during acceleration and at intersections, creating a safety hazard in traffic. In some instances there was

Honda has not issued a recall for many affected vehicles despite widespread reports of similar failures across multiple model years. I am submitting this complaint to report an ongoing steering system issue that I believe may involve the Electric Power Steering (EPS) motor and could affect safe vehicle operation. The primary symptoms are (1) a clicking sound associated with steering while driving, and (2) a loud creaking sound when turning the steering wheel while stopped or at very low speed. The condition has persisted and ha

The dealer acknowledged the problem, identified the EPS motor area as the source, and indicated Honda is aware of the issue but currently does not have an available fix. Because this issue is related to the steering system, I feel unsafe driving the vehicle and I am concerned that continued operation could lead to a loss of steering assist or another steering-related malfunction.Read more

The piston ring function has deteriorated causing ring low wear toughness such to the point that sludge has been created fowling the spark plug. This leads to carbon fowling and misfiring of the engine. There have been two incident's one in March of 2025 and the second in Late July of 2025. If we had know about the warrantee extension prior we would have brought it to Honda. Honda told us that unless the lights are on we won't fix it. So they said we needed to wait to it breaks down somewhere and then have it towed to the nearest Honda by Jan. 31st, 2026 and they will fix it. After that tough luck. We are looking for an exception to this rule and I have sent in the necessary information proving that the problem exists as evidenced by two licensed mechanics. If and exception is not granted I will have no other choice but to bring it to the better business bureau and 7 on your side a local consumer advocate from KGO TV and get them to come after you to make this right. We have been a loyal advocate for Honda for over 12 years and just want this to be made right. Please don't make us have to expose this miscarriage of good faith.
