Steering gets "sticky". Brought car to Honda dealer and just by test driving the car they want $6000 to replace bad bearings, steering motor and gearbox. No diagnostic test was done or parts looked at physically. I brought car to a local mechanic who also test drove car and did a diagnostic test and they said the steering motor and gearbox are fine and said nothing wrong with car. Honda has had
... recall on 2017-2018 crvs due to faulty steering mechanism. This is obviously a known Honda safety issue since Honda dealer knew what problem was just by test driving car and known recall. Why is my car not covered even though Honda said it's out of warranty? Which mechanic do I believe? Can local mechanic diagnostic test pick up the problem as outlined in Honda recall with magnet issue? I don't want to drive an unsafe car yet Honda wants $6k and I don't know for sure if there's a safety issue.Read more

Catastrophic Engine Failure. Reported to NHTSA on 10.11.24 for Recall 23.097. Investigation (RQ24013) which no issues were allegedly determined. Now a new investigation has opened PE25008: We had our engine replaced for a used one and are concerned that this engine still has the issues realated to Recall 23.097. Called Honda to ask if they can confirm whether or not this used/salvaged engine
... had been checked to see if it has rod bearing issues related to Recall 23.097 or was from a vehicle that was related to the recall. They said they had not. Furthermore, we provided the motor serial number so they can check and they said they were not able to. They have systems in place to quickly cross reference VIN and motor serial numbers, so it was surprising they would not be able to provide this information. Furthermore, why would Honda not have systems in place to ensure they are not installing a faulty motor given the absurdly expensive pricing for a used unit. Our families life was at risk previously with the first engine failure and now it could be again, and this was their response.Read more

This is a widely known problem reported on many Honda Owner websites and Honda Service acknowledged it was an issue but is not a “Recall” despite the potential Safety Risk on the Road when car goes in to Protect / Shutdown Mode. The nature of this issue occurring on a well maintained car with 147k miles that is 8 years old and not being a Recall and a Safety related item is being reported by me as me and my family could have been impacted by a rear end collision as car shut down / protect mode. This could and likely has occurred to other owners and possibly attributed to accidents and Safety of passengers. Honda wants over $11k to repair the car which includes Fuel Injectors / Plugs / Coils / New Head as they reflect old head can’t be used even if machined / Head Gasket. This issue is a Safety related issue and should be a Honda Recall as the Head Bolts are a known design issue causing premature failure of the Head Gasket. Submitting this to document my incident, protect the public driving this model and year and hopefully providing information to warrant a recall so that all repairs will be performed under Recall Warranty. An “Emissions System Problem” warning message appeared intermittently on the dashboard while driving. The warning light would sometimes turn off after restarting the vehicle, but the issue persisted in the vehicle’s stored diagnostic system. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where a diagnostic scan confirmed a P0430 code (catalyst system efficiency below threshold). The dealer
... identified the likely cause as failing fuel injectors and recommended replacement of the injector system. The issue was confirmed by the dealership and is reproducible through stored fault codes, even when the warning light is not actively displayed. This condition may impact engine performance, fuel mixture, and emissions system operation. In certain situations, this could lead to reduced engine performance or hesitation, which may affect the ability to safely accelerate or merge into traffic. The vehicle has been regularly maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. There were no significant warning signs prior to the initial dashboard alert other than the intermittent warning message. The failed components (fuel injectors) should be available for inspection upon request through the servicing dealership.Read more
