While driving, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of electrical voltage. Multiple warning messages appeared, and several vehicle systems disabled while the vehicle was in motion. Power and safety features malfunctioned, and the parking brake engaged unexpectedly. The vehicle became unsafe to operate while driving. The failure required towing and a battery replacement to restore drivability. T

My 2016 Malibu has a severe EBCM-related safety defect causing all four brakes to drag and overheat (reaching 240°F), leading to unstable handling. This condition mirrors the 2016 Malibu EBCM recall (GM Recall 39440). I sought help from GM. A GM-certified dealer-Monken in Centralia, IL performed a “diagnostic scan” which documented the core hydraulic failure: a constant, uncommanded 6.839 psi
... residual brake line pressure when the pedal was released. (A healthy system should be near 0 psi) This 6.839 psi is actively forcing the brakes to drag. The dealer ignored their own scientific data and submitted a fraudulent diagnosis of ("rust buildup") to GM, which GM used to deny the claim based on mileage. “Rust buildup” doesn’t create hydraulic pressure. GM is aware of this specific, documented, quantifiable safety defect (the 6.839 psi pressure) and is refusing to investigate it further. I stressed to GM that the vehicle wasn’t safe to drive and that I have a small child who has to ride in the car with me. GM dismissed my concerns by stating the dealership won’t release my car unless its safe to drive. I then had to drive the car 22 miles back home with all 4 brakes dragging. I requested the full diagnostic scan report (that the mechanic confirmed he could provide me with when I dropped my car off there) numerous times and never did I get one. I informed them that I would be filing a complaint hadn’t I received it by a certain time. The new kid in service then did send me screenshots of a generic OBDII scanner where I saw the 6.839 psi. I knew what the issue was prior to taking my car to Monken. I had an independent scan done prior. I only took the car there to comply with GM’s protocol to be eligible for assistance. I am requesting NHTSA investigate GM for failure to address a documented hydraulic control safety defect that causes brake dragging and overheating, which is non-compliant with safety standards. I can give further info Please call me for further details.Read more

Vehicle: 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss Mileage: Approximately 14,000 miles I am submitting this complaint because the ABS braking system on my vehicle activates unexpectedly and causes a temporary loss of braking when driving over uneven pavement. When braking over potholes, bumps, or rough road surfaces at low to moderate speeds, the ABS system engages even though traction is available. Wh
... en this happens, brake pressure is reduced to the point where the vehicle does not slow as expected. The ABS warning indicator flashes briefly, and there is a noticeable delay before normal braking resumes. This behavior has occurred multiple times in normal driving conditions on city streets, not during panic stops or slippery conditions. The issue feels most pronounced when approaching intersections or slowing in traffic over broken pavement, where consistent braking is critical. The momentary reduction in braking force significantly increases stopping distance and creates a safety concern. The vehicle has low mileage, has not been modified, and is maintained as delivered from the manufacturer. There are no warning lights remaining on after the event, and the issue appears to be related to ABS calibration rather than driver input or road conditions. This does not feel like normal ABS operation and gives the impression that braking is interrupted at the exact moment it is needed. Given the frequency and repeatability of the issue, I believe this represents a potential safety defect that could contribute to a collision, particularly in urban driving environments with uneven road surfaces. I am submitting this complaint to document the issue and to request that the ABS braking behavior on this vehicle be reviewed for safety.Read more

The car is equipped with a supercruise feature, which should ideally enhance the driving experience. However, I've encountered a significant issue: even when this feature is not activated, the vehicle tends to oscillate between the lane markers. This problem becomes particularly pronounced under poor road conditions, such as when it's raining. The moisture on the pavement obscures the lane marking
... s, and in these instances, the car automatically drifts toward the right side of the road. As a result, I find myself constantly struggling to maintain control of the steering wheel in an effort to keep the car centered within the lane. When it veers off to the right, I must exert extra effort to correct its direction, which can lead to a hazardous driving situation, regardless of the weather conditions or time of day. The need for constant corrections not only creates frustration but also increases the risk of losing control, making this a serious concern for both my safety and that of other road users.Read more

My 2019 Ford Edge was having engine problems. I was experiencing shuttering at speeds 20-40 mph. My vehicle odometer is at about 104,000 miles. I took the vehicle into Kendall Ford of Marysville, in Marysville Washington. I requested a diagnostic to determine what was causing the shuttering. I offered a Technical Service Bulletin be performed, as it was a bulletin I found when googling the issues
... I was experiencing. After the diagnostic the dealership performed Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) TSB 21-2081. After the TSB was performed and did not resolve the issue the dealership said the root cause of the issue is the Torque Converter. I am currently scheduled to have the maintenance to replace the torque converter on 12/15/2025. I read online there are customers and lawyers investigating this same type of issue by Ford and gathering data for a class action lawsuit as this issue is considered a safety hazard, in which Ford is negligent in taking ownership of the issue and notifying the owners via a safety recall.Read more

Engine locked up while driving out of state on the interstate. Vehicle lost all power and engine stopped functioning. Managed to pull over and stop the vehicle on the side of the interstate. I am currently in the process of having the engine replaced, but yes currently an inspection can still be performed, and I can provide statements and diagnostics from the mechanic. This failure put myself and my family in a scary situation. The engine was shaking violently before it stopped functioning and this made the truck very difficult to steer, not to mention this was during rush hour and we were in heavy traffic moving at speeds of 70mph+. Luckily we managed to get off the road, and to a safer location, but this left us stranded on the side of the road for 2 hours waiting on a tow. The vehicle was inspected by a GMC dealership initially where they only diagnosed lifter and cylinder misfire/failure. Due to the price of their quote to repair that issue, I took the vehicle to a certified mechanic, and thats when we found there was also connecting rod/crankshaft bearing failure prior to repairing the lifter/cylinder misfire. There were no prior warnings to this happening. No check engine lights, no noises, and no noticeable changes in the vehicle. Everything seemed to be operating normally.Read more

Subject: Abnormal Engine Failure – Hyundai Case #[XXX] I am filing this complaint regarding my Hyundai vehicle, which suffered catastrophic engine failure at approximately 150,000 miles. While the vehicle is outside the standard warranty, this type of failure is not consistent with normal use or expected durability. Hyundai Motor America has acknowledged receipt of my certified demand letter (Ca
... se #[XXX]) but has refused to provide coverage, instead directing me to pay for towing and diagnostic costs. This position is unacceptable given Hyundai’s history of abnormal engine defects and related settlements. Key points: • The failure is abnormal and consistent with systemic defects Hyundai has faced in prior litigation, including the Theta II and Lambda II engine defect class actions, which resulted in recalls and settlements covering millions of vehicles. • Hyundai has previously extended goodwill repairs and recall coverage for similar failures, even outside warranty periods. • Engine failure at this mileage presents a serious safety hazard, including risk of stalling, fire, or loss of power while driving. • Hyundai’s refusal to cover towing and diagnostic costs places an unfair burden on consumers and may violate consumer protection statutes. Requested Action: I request that the agency investigate Hyundai’s handling of abnormal engine failures, ensure compliance with consumer protection and safety laws, and require Hyundai to provide coverage or reimbursement for towing, diagnostic, and repair costs in cases where engine failure is abnormal and unsafe. Supporting Documentation: • Certified demand letter sent to Hyundai Motor America. • Hyundai’s written denial (Case #[XXX], dated December 11, 2025). • Vehicle mileage and details of engine failure. Component malfunctioned: Power Transfer Unit (PTU); Safety risk: failure risks loss of drive power of the vehicle, putting driver and surrounding individuals at risk; Problem reproduced: Yes - dealer; Component inspected: Yes - dealer; Messages: Yes - SVC 4WD. Upon purchasing the vehicle, I was informed that the PTU fluid is not meant to be changed - that it is meant to be "lifetime". However, at
... 8 years and 56,000 miles, I am now informed that the PTU is failing because the fluid was never changed. Thus, instead of a simple, cheap fluid change service, I now need to pay around $5,000 for the dealer to change out the entire PTU. 8 years and 56,000 is far from "lifetime" but it just outside of the warranty so I have to pay for this out of pocket despite Jeep claiming that the PTU fluid is not meant to be changed. This is so common of a problem that the PTU part needed to complete this repair is not only out of stock at all dealers, there is a long queue for obtaining the part. This is costing me not just extra repair money but also impacting my daily life as I am out of a vehicle for much longer due to having to wait for an available part. I now also have to pay for other modes of transportation while also being overall limited on my ability to complete daily responsibilities. Clearly, if the PTU fluid is meant to be "lifetime", as I was informed it was meant to be when I purchased the vehicle, it is consistently defective since so many Jeep owners are dealing with this problem. Consumers should not be the one footing the bill for this Jeep defect.Read more

But since the truck wasn’t able to be shifter into neutral the tow truck had to maneuver around to the front and “drag the truck onto a flat bed in order to clear the vehicle. Also it turns out that there is a major issue with the fuel pump module on these trucks and the tow truck driver said he has seen this happen a lot and very common. As a result these types of issues are likely to result in a near of fatal accident in the near future.Read more

The backup camera on this vehicle is basically useless at night if there are no streetlights around. I don’t know if this is a combination of a poor camera and dim reverse lights or just a bad camera, but I think it’s a safety hazard. This is new vehicle using current technology, the camera should be able to see at night, or the reverse lights need to be brighter. What is the point of a revers

The front driver seat belt has been fraying to the point that there’s only about 1/2” of belt left to hold it together. It’s frayed above the buckle so if I was to hit anything & depending on the belt to save my life I’m screwed bc it’ll just snap. I’ve contacted ford who refuses to replace it under warranty bc it’s been over 6yrs which is wrong bc it is a genuine ford motor craft pa
... rt and peoples safety and lives depend on the seatbelt to save lives. It shouldn’t only be under warranty for a limited amount of time if it’s an original ford part. So bc ford has discontinued all parts and belts for the front driver’s side I can’t find a replacement for under $200! So this is deadly and I’m not sure what led to this level of fraying other than the mechanical device it winds up in. I always wear my belt and never has it been in the door or anything so I’m not sure what caused this horrible problem but it’s even worse ford refuses to replace it. I drive a 2010 edge se fwd it has only 88k miles and has barely been driven and one owner. I’ve looked online and seen that a lot of fords have had recalled seat belts. I believe this needs to be a recall especially considering all the front driver’s seat belts on ford have been discontinued and they don’t offer any other brand of replacement. How can they expect to ensure the safety of the driver of the car if they don’t have a lifetime replacement warranty on the actual belt itself or even offer a replacement for a decent price or a replacement at all for that matter considering all have been discontinued that tells me they weren’t that secure to begin with if they aren’t even available.Read more

I took my car to the dealership for the recall fix on its engine where they put the noise sensors in. I told them my car was burning oil and my car check engine light came on so I took it back in. Just before going in the light went off, but the code was for a misfire in cylinder 2. They did could not recreate the misfire and sealed my engine and told me to bring it back in 1000 miles. During t
... his time the check engine light came on and went off again for the same code. When I brought it back at 1000 miles they could not recreate the misfire and said my car burned 0.77 quarts of oil in 1000 miles and in order for the engine to be bad that it needed to burn 1.0 quarts in that timeframe. They resealed the engine and I am to bring it back again in 1000 miles. A car should burn next to nothing for oil in 1000 miles. So my engine could burn out almost all its oil before a regular oil change and burn up the engine unless I keep adding oil. I am betting the cylinder misfire is because of oil fouling the plug. I could be on the highway and my motor could stall or blowup from lack of oil. Their recall fix is a joke and saying a regular gas enginecan burn up to 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles is ridiculous. This and every car with this engine problem should have the engine properly repaired or replacedRead more
