Bought the HD new in 2008 and used all warranty plans for 1st 10 years of ownership. They performed all work per their guidelines. Never once did they flush the system as this recall mentions every 2 years? While riding down my driveway the rear brake failed to engage on a gravel road and I loss control using my front brake to stop before entering a 2 lane road with traffic at 45 MPH. Loss of cont
... rol caused the bike to crash on the road. 2 months after the crash I get a recall notice on this issue. My ABS failure was directly related to this crash yet HD claims it is not? Really, the ABS freezes due to moisture in the fluid and its my fault that 10 years of preventive MX by my dealership failed to change the fluid? Can someone light the fire under HD and get this recall expanded to cover this part. Maybe use one of the 87,000 IRS agents the Biden Admin is hiring to work on this. I followed the rules and ALL MX required yet only now its an owner issue to replace the ABS module at a cost of $1,000.00. Hold HD accountable for selling an ABS system in 2008 that was not vetted properly on a first year run model.Read more

While riding this motorcycle, I stopped for gas and then went to restart the motorcycle and the starter just "screeched" rather that starting the engine. On second attempt, the bike started however the normal idle RPMs of around 1200 went up to 4000 and would not drop back to normal RPM. (I have had this bike take as many as 4 start attempts, twice while stuck in busy intersections and previousl
... y reported to NHTSA the failure to start at busy intersections as a safety concern, This complaint is for a second/different safety concern.) Following the restart on the second attempt, and the RPMs around 4000, warning lights and the check engine light would not go out, which has been a common occurrence with this model motorcycle. The motorcycle then went into "limp Mode" whereas it would not exceed 20-30 MPH (slower on hills) on the ride home and to the dealer for another repair attempt. The safety risk is that while riding the motorcycle home at 20-30 MPH, other traffic is swerving around and passing at 40-50-60 MPH, creating a hazard for the rider. In addition, the 4000 RPM idle makes control of the motorcycle more difficult when stopping and starting.Read more

Twice while at a busy intersection and after stopping, I inadvertently stalled the engine when releasing the clutch after stopping. This has happened twice at busy intersections and puts me at risk as I am sitting in the intersection on a motorcycle that won't start as cars swerve by. The starter "screech" rather that starting the engine is a common issue with this model motorcycle and is especially prevalent after an engine stall, thus the greater risk at intersections. I have had it take as many as four starting attempts to get the engine to start. This problem is not unique to my motorcycle. It is a common occurrence for many Harley Davidson Pan America owners and is well documented by owners on the Owner Forums. this issue has been reported to Harley Davidson on multiple occasions along with other electronic issues, however they have not been able to resolve it and apparently have no "fix" available. The condition has been ongoing for a year on my motorcycle.Read more

While riding at 55mph the bike suddenly lost oil pressure and started blowing an enormous amount of smoke out the exhaust and the breather tubes in the intake. This caused oil to come out and blow back under the rear tires which could have resulted in loss of control. I was able to stop and when I checked the oil the cap blew out into my hand because of crankcase pressure. The oil level showed it
... was very low so I added 2 3/4 quarts of new oil. After cooling down the trike ran ok and I was able to ride it home where I checked the oil again and it had the same crankcase pressure however it was now showing overfilled 2 1/2 quarts. The problem is that the oil built up in the crankcase and was not pumped out back to the oil tank. This is known as sumping which is affecting some 2017-2019 Harley’s with the new Milwaukee 8 engine. As I stated before this could have caused loss of control resulting in an accident with a less experienced rider because of the oil blowing back under the rear tires on the trike. I am 70 years old and have been riding since 16 years old and I believe my experience helped me knowing what to do when something like this occurs. There are service bulletins explaining this problem however I firmly believe all 2017-2019 Harley Davidson Milwaukee 8 motorcycle’s and trike need to be recalled and repaired with the updated parts that Harley Davidson began installing in all 2020 and newer Milwaukee 8 engines during manufacturing. Someone may likely lose their life as a result of this know problem.Read more
