A PUSH TO TALK BUTTON FOR THE CB COMMUNICATION SYSTEM ON ALL HARLEYS FOR WELL OVER 10 YEARS HAS BEEN ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HANDLE BAR BUTTON CLUSTER FOR BIKES WITH CB AND RADIO. ON THE NEW 2014 THE BUTTON WAS SWITCHED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON (WHICH WAS MOVED TO THE LEFT SIDE) AND MOVED TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE CONTROL CLUSTER. BECAUSE OF THIS AND THE NEED TO CONTINUALLY GRAB THE THROTTLE
... CONTROL, THE BUTTON IS NOT AS EASY TO REACH WHILE RIDING. THE ON/OFF SWITCH FOR THE BIKE IS DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE THROTTLE GRIP. BECAUSE OF THIS THE ON/OFF SWITCH IS VULNERABLE TO BEING HIT AND TURNING OFF THE BIKE WHILE IN MOTION, CAUSING A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THIS HAPPENED AT LEAST 3 TIME DURING A RIDE ON THE ABOVE DATE AND CREATED SOME SCARY MOMENTS. I HAD TO REDUCE USE OF THE CB AND CHANGE POSITIONS WITH A FELLOW RIDER TO LEAD THE GROUP AS I FELT IT WAS NO LONGER SAFE FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE OTHER RIDERS AND REAR ROAD CAPTAIN. MY SUGGESTION IS TO REQUIRE HARLEY DAVIDSON TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND SWITCH THE WIRING BACK TO WHERE IT BELONGS. BOTH THE CRUISE CONTROL AND PUSH TO TALK ARE APPARENTLY THE SAME TYPE OF BUTTON (MY OPINION) IN THE WAY THEY OPERATE, SO IT WOULD BE A MATTER OF SWITCHING THE WIRES IN THE HARNESS. HARLEY DAVIDSON MODEL FLTHK MOTORCYCLE. BOUGHT NEW MOTORCYCLE ON 9-13-13 COOLANT LEAKING AROUND THE THERMOSTAT ONTO GROUND & ON REAR TIRE ON 9-17-13 WITH 450 MILES. TOOK TO DEALER THEY REPLACED THERMOSTAT HOUSING & HAD MOTORCYCLE UNTIL 9-26-13. RODE MOTORCYCLE & COOLANT BOTTLE OVERFLOWED IN PARKING LOT AT LOWE'S ON 9-27-13. WE TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER ON 9-29-13 FOR THE COOLANT LEAK & COOLANT GETTI

DEALER CLEANED BIKE & THEY TOPPED OFF COOLANT & GAVE ME A WATER BOTTLE FULL OF COOLANT TO ADD TO THE LEVEL IF I HAVE ANY MORE PROBLEMS AND SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT HARLEY ON THE ISSUE. NEXT DAY 9-30-13 I TOPPED OFF THE COOLANT TO THE COOLANT LINE ON THE OVER FLOW BOTTLE AS INSTRUCTED BY THE DEALERSHIP. RODE THAT EVENING & SAME THING OVERFLOW BOTTLE OVERFLOWING. I ADDED MORE OF THE COOLANT THEY GAVE ME & RODE MOTORCYCLE HOME. RODE TO DEALERSHIP & PULLED INTO THE SERVICE BAY & OVERFILL BOTTLE OVERFILLED ON THEIR SHOP FLOOR & ON THE REAR TIRE. DEALER CLEANED BIKE & THEY TOPPED OFF COOLANT & REFILLED THE WATER BOTTLE FULL OF COOLANT AND TOLD ME TO DO THE SAME THING THEY SAID TO DO BEFORE & ADD TO THE LEVEL IF I HAVE ANY MORE PROBLEMS AND SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT HARLEY ON THE ISSUE AGAIN. COUPLE DAYS LATER I TOPPED OFF THE COOLANT OVERFLOW BOTTLE AGAIN AT HOME, HADN'T RODE TOO COLD OUTSIDE. 10-15-13 TOOK MOTORCYCLE TO DEALERSHIP ON THE TRAILER WASN'T GOING TO RIDE ANY MORE DO TO COOLANT GETTING ON REAR TIRE & MAKING IT SLIPPERY ON HE ROAD DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. THERE ARE A LOT OF CUSTOMERS BUYING THESE MOTORCYCLES WITH COOLANT SPEWING OUT & GETTING ON THE REAR TIRES. WHILE DESCENDING A STEEP INCLINE AND ABOUT TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN IN LESS THAN 100 YARDS THE REAR BRAKE PEDAL, WHEN APPLIED, WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN RENDERING THE REAR BRAKE USELESS. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS BROUGHT TO A SAFE STOP BY USING THE FRONT BRAKE AND DOWNSHIFTING AND WAS ABLE TO BE SAFELY RIDDEN TO A LOCAL H-D DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. INTERESTING ENOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED BY H-D IN OCTOBER OF 2011 WHICH AFFECTED OVER 300,000 BIKES OF THE TOURING, CVO TOURING AND TRIKE MODELS FROM THE 2009 THROUGH 2012 MODEL YEARS. RIGHT LOWER FARING COVER WAS REMOVED TO INSPECT COOLANT RESERVOIR WITH NO APPARENT SIGNS OF COOLANT LEAKAGE. WAITING FOR PARTS AND REPAIR COULD BE A WEEK OR MORE AS HARLEY DAVIDSON PARTS WAREHOUSE DOES NOT HAVE THIS PART IN STOCK EITHER. APPARENTLY THEY SEEM TO BE ON BACKORDER. WHEN NEAR OTHER VEHICLES THIS HAPPENS MORE OFTEN, IT'S LIKE THE FRONT END IS BEING LIFTED AND MOVED. THIS HAS ONLY BEEN HAPPENING TYPICALLY AT 60 MPH OR HIGHER. I HAVE NOT HAD IT OVER 70 BECAUSE OF THIS CONDITION. I FEEL UNSAFE TO TRY TO PUT ON THE CRUISE CONTROL AND TAKE MY HANDS OFF THE BAR TO REST THEM. AGAIN THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND TYPICALLY ON LONGER TRIPS WHEN THE TIRES GET REALLY HEATED UP. MY FEELING IS THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE TIRE ITSELF, BUT I KNOW OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE THAT HAVE REPLACED THEIR WHEELS (RIMS) AND THAT HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM (BUT THEY ALSO CHANGED THE RUBBER AT THE SAME TIME). THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS STARTED MAKING METAL TO METAL NOISES OFF AND ON WHILE THE HANDLE BARS WOULD VIBRATE. IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET THAT HARLEY DAVIDSON CHANGED TO A SMALLER WHEEL BEARING AND THEY COME FROM SOUTH KOREA AND DELHI, INDIA. THERE IS NO SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON THIS EVER AND THEY SHOULD NOT GO BAD AT 11,000 MILES. THE BEARINGS RUINED THE WHEEL AND WILL COST $550 TO REPLACE IT

IN THE PROCESS OF HARLEY DAVIDSON MAKING AN "OUT OF WARRANTY CONSIDERATION" ABOUT WHOSE GOING TO PAY FOR THIS. I'M EXPECTING THERE WILL BE A RECALL DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE IT BECOMES A CLASS ACTION SUIT AFTER SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR INJURED. HARLEY DAVIDSON TRIKE RIGHT SIDE MANIFOLD PRODUCES EXTREME HEAT. WILL CAUSE BURNS AND HARLEY DAVIDSON IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE IT UNDER WARRANTY, IT IS AN AVERAGE OF $2,000 TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. WHILE TAKING MY HARLEY DAVIDSON FOR A RIDE, ABOUT 30 MILES INTO THE RIDE, I NOTICED ABNORMAL SOUNDS COMING FROM MY FRONT WHEEL AREA. IT SOUNDED AS IF I HIT A ROCK, OR THAT MY TIRE WAS GOING FLAT. THE END RESULT, AFTER THE BIKE WAS TAKEN TO THE CLOSEST HARLEY DEALER, WAS THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING HAD FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WHEEL WITH NEW BEARINGS AND IS NOW OPERATING NORMAL.
