The specific issue I’ve encountered is that the vehicle intermittently becomes stuck in “Park” and cannot be shifted into “Drive” or any other gear using normal methods. Hundreds of Kia Sorento owners from various forums and complaint boards (including Reddit, Kia owner groups, [XXX] , and even other reports on NHTSA.gov) have documented the same problem with identical symptoms: the gear shifter becomes stuck in Park, the brake lights do not illuminate, and in many cases, this is traced back to a faulty Body Control Module (BCM). Many owners have noted that when they contacted Kia corporate or their dealerships, the representatives either acknowledged the issue was known but not recalled, or simply claimed there was no current recall to address it. This is disappointing and raises serious questions about Kia’s willingness to take accountability for systemic flaws in their vehicles. I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1.Initiate an investigation into the prevalence and root cause of BCM-related failures in the 2016 Kia Sorento, particularly those that result in gear shift locking and/or brake light malfunction. 2.Evaluate whether this issue meets the criteria for a safety-related recall. 3.Require Kia Motors to issue a recall and provide cost-free repairs or replacements of the affected components to all impacted vehicle owners. 4.Monitor any further consumer complaints to determine the full extent of the issue across other model years, trims, or vehicles using the same BCM design. Tech found cracks in the fiberglass above the slide at the rear. The cracks are on the inside in the same area (Submitted a claim to Grand Design. Waiting). 6/27/2025 - Pulled into campground and tried opening the window by the dining table. It is stuck. Had to push and hold it closed and then the release lever worked. Randomly throughout our travels, we stop at different places and notice pieces of trim/wood on the floors. While driving i had the frame ibeam break above rear passenger side shackle that holds the leaf spring and axel to frame. This was the actual ibeam/frame itself that broke about 2 inches above shackle weld. This has caused health issues, including respiratory difficulties, headaches, brain fog, and fatigue, with heightened risk due to a pre-existing asthma condition. Structural issues include misaligned exterior doors that fail to seal properly and loud creaking/popping noises during hitching, suggesting possible frame or chassis integrity problems. Equipment failures include a non-functional center awning, persistent sewer odor (suggesting a failed ventilation system), and malfunctioning A/C and heating units. Despite multiple inspections and documented findings from Grand Design–approved technicians, the manufacturer has offered only limited, pre-approved repairs that fail to address root causes. These problems severely impact the safety and habitability of the RV, which is used as a full-time residence. The manufacturer has declined a full inspection, replacement, or buyback. No warning lamps appeared, but symptoms began shortly after purchase and have worsened. The RV remains available for inspection. THE REAR-VIEW CAMERA MALFUNCTIONS AT TIMES & DISPLAYS A BLUE SCREEN ON THE IN-CAR MONITOR THAT STATES "CAMERA UNAVAILABLE". OTHER TIMES THE IMAGE IN THE MONITOR WILL BE WAVY. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE EXACERBATED BY WARMER TEMPERATURES. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY ANYONE.
