Component failure : Left rear tire showed signs of wear. Replaced the tire and upon reinstalling checked the hubs and brakes. All good. Noticed a little deflection in the front of the left rear shackle. It was obscured by foam and underbelly material. Upon peeling it back, it was noticed that the shackle had torn completely away from the frame beam. RISK : This trailer had it been pulled do
... wn the highway another 10 miles would have experienced a catastrophic failure. This trailer at minimum would have lost the axle and torn apart the trailer. Worse it could have flipped the trailer or tow vehicle Reported Problem : Grand Design, the manufacturer, and Lippert the frame manufacturer have been notified. They sent me a "Customer Satisfaction Program" that identifies this issue. This is NOT Satisfactory. This is should be a total recall effort and they should be required to send out notices certified mail. Current : Working with the manufacturers to see if they will have the trailer towed to the nearest service center and if they will repair it.Read more

On January 18, 2026, while towing my 2022 Grand Design Solitude 310GK near Bouse, Arizona, I discovered a serious problem and pulled off the road. The rear axle had become detached/displaced. At the time, I did not know exactly what had occurred or what caused the axle event. The RV was subsequently delivered to a repair facility on March 27, 2026. During the repair process, significant structura
... l/frame damage was progressively discovered, including cracking in the spring-hanger/frame area. The repair facility documented that the damage was more extensive than initially believed and performed structural repairs that included additional steel and plating. My insurance company approved $23,615.83 in total repair costs, with a net repair cost of $23,365.83 after the $250 deductible; not all of that amount was frame-related. During this process, Grand Design referred me to Lippert regarding frame repair information. I subsequently received a Lippert frame repair procedure addressing inspection and repair of frame cracking. Grand Design has advised that my RV is not within the date range of the related program. I have asked Grand Design and Lippert to review the documented structural repairs and determine whether they are consistent with Lippert's frame repair procedure and whether the RV is structurally safe for highway use. I have specifically stated that I am not asking them to determine the cause of the January incident or certify the repair facility's workmanship. I am seeking a competent engineering determination concerning the structural/frame condition and repairs. I am reporting this to NHTSA because failure or cracking of the frame/suspension attachment structure on a large towable RV could create a serious highway safety risk. The cause of the January axle event and when the frame cracking developed are UNKNOWN. The cracking was discovered progressively during subsequent repairs.Read more

In early 2024 we noticed a binding on the bedroom slide, we took it in for service at Happy Daze in Ripon and the repair shop fixed the slide issue. After our next camping trip a month or so after the repair, we noticed a crack on the outside driver side of the front of the trailer above and below the bedroom slide. We had noticed a gap in the front bedroom cabinets in which we had attributed to n
... ormal wear and tear and had reinforced with screws and wood trim previously. In contacting Happy Daze again we brought it in for the new issue and realized that we were experiencing frame flex/failure. Happy Daze connected with Grand Design who sent a team out and did a goodwill repair of the issue, telling us it had been corrected. The SRT team from grand design welded and added additional lag bolts but did not address the outside cracks on the trailer. Because the trailer was well out of warranty and we were assured that the repairs made were adequate we accepted the fact that we would deal with the superficial flaws on the outside of the trailer. We covered the areas as best we could to prevent any water damage from occurring at those areas. A few months ago we noticed that the cabinets had cracked in a few areas and have continued to separate from the wall also rubbing a hole on the side wall. We returned to Happy Daze who pulled off the front cover and found broken welds and loose bolts on the frame work that was repaired in 2024. Grand design was contacted and has refused to make any additional repairs to make this vehicle road safe currently. We were informed to make a claim with NHTSA regarding this issue.Read more

Frame and structural integrity/towable RV. 7/15/2024 — First Warranty Repair (Frame): Blue Compass found broken seal-plate welds on the frame; welds repaired, bolts replaced. 30 ft of roof membrane, which had pulled loose and "ballooned" in transit, was fully replaced. 6/2026 — Recurrence: Roof membrane pulled loose again during travel. Mobile tech (Mike's RV Repair, GA) performed a tempora
... ry repair ($668.60, GD-reimbursed), initially noting "frame flex" based on owner's account of 2024 history, later revised to "possible frame flex" absent independent diagnosis. 6/19–21/2026 — Follow-up Repair: GD/dealer deemed mobile-tech photos insufficient. Blue Compass Charleston reopened the repair, found membrane improperly tucked under the front cap, corrected and resealed it. Cost: $1,375.08. 7/23–8/8/2026 — Inspection, No Cause Found: Blue Compass Prescott Valley performed a free inspection; air test found no leak source. At pickup, service writer and tech visually compared the unit to a new one on the lot and confirmed filon flex/loose pin-box fit, expressing concern, but had no authority to independently request Grand Design SRT involvement. 8/10/2026–Present: Owner escalated to Grand Design; new case #01085558 opened for frame flex. GD committed to 24–48-hr follow-up; deadline passed with no contact. Additional structural symptoms since observed: lag bolts replaced in 2024 frame repair are missing, backed out or loose, detached service bay shell, separated closet panel with exposed insulation, misaligned closet doors/wall gaps, screws backing out throughout the basement — suggesting a broader chassis/structural issue beyond the roof. Documentation available: repair invoices, photos/video, mobile tech invoice, receipts, full GD case history. Have an appointment on 9/4/26 for dealer to do a frame inspection that Grand Design and Lippert are requiring to be done before considering any support with repairs.Read more

On XXX, I was towing my 2024 Grand Design Imagine AIM travel trailer, VIN [XXX], on the freeway at highway speed behind a 2025 Ram 1500 Crew Cab using a hitch equipped with sway control bars. After the trailer crossed a bump in the road surface, it began swaying side to side and the oscillation grew uncontrollably within seconds despite the sway control. The trailer rolled over and was destroyed.
... It is a total loss. [Add: injuries, if any / no injuries.] This was not an isolated event. From the time of purchase the trailer exhibited poor towing behavior, including a tendency to sway and wander that was noticeably worse than other trailers I have towed with the same truck. I believe there may be a defect in the trailer's axle alignment, suspension, or weight distribution as built that made it unstable at highway speed. The tow vehicle is rated well above this trailer's gross weight, and the sway control equipment was in use, so I do not believe tow vehicle capacity or the absence of sway control explains the loss of control. I am aware NHTSA recall 23V-151 addressed incorrect tire size and inflation pressure information on the Federal Certification Label of 2023 Imagine AIM units built Nov 2022 to Feb 2023, with a stated risk of tire failure and loss of control. My unit is a 2024 and is outside that VIN range, but I am concerned a related tire, label, or chassis issue may exist on later units. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the Imagine AIM single-axle platform has a stability, alignment, or tire defect that contributes to sway and rollover. I am attempting to preserve the trailer for inspection and can provide photos of the axle, spring hangers, hitch, and tires, along with purchase and service records, on request. --- Two notes. *I believe the frame to my Grand Design RV is broken/failing again and is available for inspection. *If the frame fails and breaks it will come detached from the tow vehicle possibly injuring or worse killing people. *The problem is visible to see as there is at least one broken weld and lag bolts/screws backing out that no longer hold the frame to the wall structure. *The vehicle was previously
... inspected by an insurance agent, dealership, and multiple Grand Design SRTs-mobile technicians when it failed before previous repairs. *There was sealant that was failing again so when I started to remove it to replaced, it I noticed some broken screw heads so I dug farther into it and found the broken weld and lag bolts loose/stripped. This was noticed during a routine sealant inspection.Read more

I found two cracked welds on frame gussets. i took measurements at all the points listed and they were all out of spec. the worst is the pin box movement. it went up 2" before the camper moved. in the video, you can see it moving independently from the nose of the camper. the distance from the pin box to nose decreased by 1 1/8" the frame is flexing and raising up into the camper. this explains why I was having difficulties getting the hitch to release, the king pin was binding in the jaws of the hitch because of the excessive pitch of the pin box. when jacking up the camper and raising it 1/2" off the floor on the passenger side, the landing gear on the driver side was still touching the floor. the camper crunched, popped and cracked as I was raising it, as I lowered it the noises were louder and lasted after the weight was off of the pin box. inside the camper the noise was louder than outside, the floors crack and pop when walked on in the bedroom and bathroom, and the cabinets rubbed the walls 3/4" the frame in the basement has visible signs of metal sliding as much as 1/2". the vehicle is not safe to tow. I cannot find anyone willing to look at it INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATIORead more

I am reporting what I believe is a safety‑related defect involving the automatic transmission in my 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport, VIN [XXX]. Approximately five months after the factory warranty expired, at around 44,000 miles, the transmission began slipping unexpectedly, and the vehicle would not accelerate above roughly 25–35 mph. This occurred while driving, creating an unsafe condition
... . I needed to make a left turn across traffic, but because the vehicle would not accelerate properly and could not safely match the speed of other vehicles, I judged it too dangerous to change lanes and complete the left turn. Instead, I had to make a right turn, pull into a driveway, turn around, and continue straight to avoid an unsafe lane change. A vehicle that cannot respond normally to throttle input presents a risk when merging, changing lanes, or crossing intersections. The symptoms are transmission slipping under acceleration, limited maximum speed, and abnormal drivability. To my knowledge, this is not due to driver error or poor maintenance. The problem has been reproduced and observed by an authorized Land Rover dealer (Land Rover of Alexandria, Alexandria, VA), which provided an estimated repair cost of about $7,000, indicating a major transmission or control‑system fault. The vehicle and transmission are available for inspection upon request. I understand there have been prior recalls and technical bulletins involving Land Rover transmission control issues (including a recall where certain Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque vehicles could unexpectedly shift into neutral due to sensor and software calibration problems). My vehicle’s behavior—loss of proper drive, slipping, and limited speed—raises similar safety concerns even if the failure mode is not identical. I am concerned that there may be ongoing transmission control or calibration issues that could affect safety. My steering wheel began to make clanking sound and lost the tension that allows for smooth turning of the wheel for both left and right. I looked it up and have found that this is a known issue that Hyundai has not addressed. Hyundai had a batch of bad steering wheel couplers that were installed in numerous models. This steering issue could cause someone to over compensate when turning the steer
... ing wheel. Since it does not have tension, it feels like the steering is disconnected from the car. I did have a quote from Hyundai. It was between $400-$600 depending on how long it took. My car is available for inspection at any time by the manufacturer, police, insurance or other. There are no warning lights or symptoms of the problem. You are litterally driving down the road and you go to make a left or right turn and it feels like a rubber band just busted and steering becomes unpredictable.Read more

My 2021 Honda Odyssey Touring has experienced a severe engine stalling defect that creates an immediate traffic hazard. On multiple occasions during warm weather conditions, the Auto Idle-Stop system has engaged at a stoplight, but the vehicle completely failed to restart automatically when pressing the accelerator. Instead, the engine completely stalled out mid-drive, leaving the vehicle stranded
... in active traffic and requiring a manual cycle of the ignition button to turn back over. There were no dashboard warning lamps, error messages, or check engine lights prior to the engine stalling. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership (Honda of Middleburg Heights) for an emergency safety evaluation. The certified technician physically tested the starting system and explicitly confirmed the physical hardware failure on the invoice, stating: "The starter motor can be heard cranking slower than usual during start up. Recommend replacing the starter motor and relays." Despite this official mechanical diagnosis of a failing starter component causing an immediate traffic stall, regional management issued a flat refusal of coverage because my specific VIN was omitted from the automated database recall screens for Service Bulletins A23-008 and A23-010. I am filing this complaint to ensure federal investigators document this rigid VIN exclusion loop under the active NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25004.Read more

After a recall repair (Campaign 9C2) was performed on my vehicle, it developed a hesitation and lack of acceleration issue that did not exist before the repair. The vehicle exhibits rough or delayed gear shifting, a noticeable lack of power/acceleration, and behavior that feels like the engine is not receiving adequate fuel. This occurs both during cold start and after the vehicle has been driven
... and is fully warm. I returned the vehicle to the dealership (Wallace Hyundai), where the service advisor personally test drove the car with me and confirmed he could feel the hesitation firsthand. Despite this, the dealership stated no issue was found and advised warming the car up for 1-3 minutes before driving as a workaround. I tested this exact recommendation, and the issue returned even after the vehicle was fully warmed and had already been driven. Hyundai Motor America's National Consumer Affairs department has stated this is "under review" but has also described the hesitation as "normal" cold-start behavior related to catalyst warm-up. This does not match what I am experiencing, since the issue also occurs when the vehicle is already warm, and their own dealership's advisor confirmed the problem exists. I have also noticed a decrease in fuel efficiency (MPG) since the software update associated with this recall. This issue directly affects the safe operation of the vehicle — specifically the ability to accelerate reliably, including in situations like merging onto highways or pulling into traffic, where a lack of power could result in a collision. I do not consider the vehicle safe to drive in its current condition.Read more
