Formal complaint — persistent, non-disableable Bluetooth transmitter in [2024 Chevy Silverado] / privacy & safety risk; request for remediation and recall assessment I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a safety and privacy defect in the infotainment/telematics system of my vehicle, a The unit runs Google Built-In / Android Automotive OS. This complaint documents technical evidence
... that the vehicle’s Bluetooth radio broadcasts a persistent, non-randomized MAC address and cannot be completely disabled via any user-accessible control. I request immediate remediation, a formal security assessment, and confirmation whether this condition will be remediated by firmware/OTA update or recall. Summary of the issue The infotainment unit’s Bluetooth adapter emits BLE advertisements that expose a static, permanent MAC address i.e ([AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF]) that does not change across power cycles and is visible to passive scanners while the vehicle is parked and otherwise idle. The vehicle provides no persistent user control to turn off the Bluetooth radio; menus do not disable the hardware radio. Attempts to disable Bluetooth via the system settings are ineffective. The static MAC and inability to disable the radio create an ongoing privacy and tracking risk: third parties can uniquely identify and track the vehicle across time and locations by logging the broadcasted identifier. This configuration is inconsistent with current industry cybersecurity & privacy guidance that recommends minimizing exposed identifiers, providing user control to disable wireless interfaces, and implementing randomization of wireless addresses when possible. The static MAC plus non-disableable radio constitutes a persistent, unique identifier broadcast in public spaces. This defeats reasonable efforts by consumers to limit tracking and to control their privacy.Read more

While driving in early 2025, my 2016 Chevrolet Spark EV suddenly lost all ability to accelerate. The vehicle remained powered on but would not respond to the accelerator, and I was unable to fully shut it off. This created a safety hazard because I could not properly control or secure the vehicle, and it required towing. I replaced the 12V battery at my own expense. The issue briefly disappeared,
... but the same failure occurred again within weeks. The replacement 12V battery also failed to hold a charge, indicating the problem was not related to the 12V system. I brought the vehicle to Harbor Chevrolet. Their technicians confirmed the problem was caused by a failure of the high-voltage battery system. They also informed me that the required EV battery is unavailable from the manufacturer with no estimated availability. Because this component is essential for basic propulsion and safety, the vehicle has been completely inoperable since early 2025. The vehicle is available for inspection, but it cannot be driven due to the propulsion failure. The defect has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealership. There were no warning lamps or early indicators prior to the sudden loss of propulsion. I am reporting this because sudden propulsion loss and inability to shut the vehicle down properly present significant safety concerns, especially if this issue affects additional Spark EV vehicles without an available manufacturer remedy.Read more

My Volvo S60 has developed excessive oil consumption consistent with the condition described in Volvo’s “Engine Oil Consumption” extended-warranty notice. I only received this notice after my vehicle had already passed the 8-year/100,000-mile eligibility period, preventing me from accessing the program intended for this defect. I visited an authorized Volvo dealer regarding the oil-consumpti
... on issue, and the dealer recommended performing Volvo’s official oil-consumption test. Before authorizing the test, I asked Volvo to cover the cost and confirm reimbursement eligibility. Volvo declined these requests, requiring me to pay for the test and any related repairs. I proceeded with the official oil-consumption test at my own expense, and the results confirmed abnormal oil consumption. Despite this, Volvo again declined reimbursement or goodwill assistance and did not provide any written, technical explanation based on the confirmed test results. This condition poses safety concerns, including possible engine damage, stalling, or sudden loss of power if oil drops unexpectedly. To maintain safe operation, I must frequently check and top off the oil. I also previously owned another Volvo model (XC60 2015.5) equipped with the same engine family, which experienced a piston-ring failure in late 2021. At that time, the recommended repair was piston-ring replacement—the same repair now recommended for this S60. Volvo declined coverage for that prior failure as well. Experiencing similar defects in two Volvo vehicles with the same engine family suggests a broader pattern that may impact safety. I am reporting this issue to NHTSA because: • Volvo sent the program notice only after my vehicle was no longer eligible. • Volvo denied reimbursement despite a confirmed defect. • The defect creates safety risks due to potential loss of power. • My experience aligns with reported patterns of excessive oil consumption and piston-ring failures in this engine family.Read more

Most recently, the contact stated that the rearview camera displayed a distorted image or a black screen while the vehicle was in reverse(R). The contact stated that the failure obstructed the driver's visibility, which prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. The contact turned off the vehicle and waited for several minutes before restarting the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear camera would then reboot. Summary of the Problem: The power tailgate motor on my 2020 Honda Odyssey has failed multiple times, causing the liftgate to stop midway, refuse to open, or abruptly close on its own. This failure creates a safety risk because the tailgate can unexpectedly drop or close on adults or children standing underneath it. Detailed Description: The tailgate motor on my 2020 Honda Odyssey has stopped work
... ing correctly on three different occasions. I have taken the vehicle to the Honda dealership repeatedly and have paid hundreds of dollars for repairs, yet the problem keeps returning. The tailgate will randomly stop while opening, won't fully lift, or will close unexpectedly and forcefully. This is especially dangerous when loading children or cargo, as the tailgate can fall without warning. After researching online, I found many other 2020 Odyssey owners reporting the same tailgate motor failure, indicating that this is a widespread issue rather than normal wear. The repeated failure suggests a potential design or safety defect. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this recurring malfunction as a potential safety issue and determine whether a recall or corrective action is necessary.Read more

The engine in my 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 suddenly malfunctioned while driving on two separate occasions. The vehicle began shaking violently and lost power without warning. I could not accelerate and had to pull over immediately. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it to regain limited driveability. On the second incident, the power loss was so abrupt that it felt as if I had been rear-ended
... . I feared the vehicle would stall in traffic and cause a crash. Following these events, the check engine light remains constantly on. The dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed excessive valve leakage into the exhaust system, requiring a complete cylinder-head replacement. They warned the failure will worsen and could result in sudden power loss again. This defect poses a serious safety risk. If the power loss occurs while merging or at highway speeds, it could easily lead to a rear-end collision. The vehicle has relatively low mileage for such a severe internal engine failure, and I have learned that other owners of this same engine have reported similar issues. Sudden stalling or loss of acceleration places occupants and other drivers in danger. There were no warning messages prior to the failure, and the problem has recurred. The vehicle is available for inspection, and the defect has been confirmed by a Mercedes-Benz service center. This appears to be a mechanical defect in the engine design, potentially involving valve seat failure. An investigation is needed to determine if this issue is widespread and whether a recall or manufacturer action is required to prevent accidents or injuries.Read more

The vehicle experiences a sudden and dangerous malfunction while driving. Without any prior warning, the vehicle begins to shake and then immediately brakes on its own, coming to an abrupt stop in the middle of traffic. Only after the vehicle has already braked and shut down does an “Engine Control Error” message appear on the display. There is no advance alert and no time for the driver to re
... act or move out of traffic. This is exceptionally concerning especially as this vehicle was being used a primary mode of transportation for my 2 young toddlers who were present in the vehicle during these failures. The vehicle was purchased directly from Porsche as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in June 2025, and was represented by Porsche as having passed all safety and mechanical inspections at the time of purchase. Despite this, the vehicle has continued to experience catastrophic failures. Following the initial shutdown incident, the vehicle was towed to Porsche for service on September 2. Porsche stated that the issue had been repaired and assured that the vehicle was safe to operate. However, on September 29, the same failure occurred again. The vehicle shook, abruptly braked in active traffic, shut itself down, and only then displayed the engine control failure message. This shows that the underlying defect was not corrected and continues to pose a serious safety hazard. The problem is severe, unpredictable, and reproducible. It places the driver, passengers, and surrounding motorists at immediate risk because the vehicle becomes immobilized in traffic with no prior warning and no ability to pull over safely. The vehicle has been inspected by Porsche technicians, but the root cause remains unknown, and Porsche has been unable to provide a successful repair or assurance of safety. This pattern strongly indicates a critical defect in the engine control or power-management system that renders the vehicle unsafe for public road use.Read more

The Diesel Exhaust Fluid system on my 2016 Range Rover Sport has a recurring defect that triggers the warning “Incorrect Diesel Exhaust Fluid Quality Detected” followed by a “No engine starts in XX miles” countdown. This defect has happened repeatedly over several years despite multiple repairs including injector replacement, injector housing replacement and eventually a complete DEF tank
... assembly replacement. The failure always returns. This defect disables the vehicle and creates a safety risk because the car will eventually refuse to start, which can leave the driver stranded without warning. The problem appeared again this month, and the vehicle displayed the countdown message even though only OEM DEF fluid was used. Land Rover’s own internal service bulletins describe this issue, but dealerships have been unable to permanently repair it. I was instructed by Land Rover corporate to bring the vehicle in for a goodwill review, but instead I was told I would need to pay for diagnostics, and corporate later stated they would not cover repairs at all. A respected independent garage reviewed my service records and told me the dealership should have performed a BlueDEF regeneration procedure. They also told me this is a known and continuous problem on these vehicles and that it will never go away without a redesigned system. This is a long-standing emissions-related defect that repeatedly renders the vehicle non-operational and forces owners into unsafe situations. There is no permanent fix available through the manufacturer or dealers. This did not resolve the issue, and the shutter at highway speed remains exactly the same. I also contacted GM directly, but was redirected back to the dealership, resulting in no progress. At this point the issue has been reported multiple times, yet no root cause or repair has been provided. I am essentially being sent in circles without a solution. There appears to be a growing history of transmission-related issues with newer Chevrolet HD trucks equipped with the Allison 10-speed transmission, and this symptom seems consistent with those reports. A shutter at sustained highway speeds raises a significant safety concern, as a transmission failure at 70+ mph could lead to loss of control or power. In addition to the shutter, I have repeatedly noticed a strong “burning brake pad” smell coming from the rear of the truck. This happens randomly and has also been reported to the dealership, but no cause has been identified. I am unsure whether this is related to the transmission issue, but combined, these symptoms suggest a potential mechanical defect. Given the safety implications and the lack of resolution from authorized dealerships, I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in investigating this issue.Read more

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a serious malfunction of the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system. This malfunction caused my vehicle to unexpectedly perform an emergency stop without a valid cause, resulting in significant damage to its suspension system. Incident Details: •Date of Incident: Friday, December 5, 2025, between 10:45 am and 11:15 am ET •Location: Community
... Baptist Church of Englewood, 224 1St, Englewood, New Jersey. •Description: While driving under normal conditions on a clear, dry road with no obstructions, the vehicle's AEB system engaged suddenly and forcefully. The abrupt, maximum-force braking caused severe stress and impact on the vehicle's suspension components, leading to a bent suspension linkage/component. The car is currently unsafe to drive. The damage to the suspension was not a result of normal wear and tear or an external impact caused by a collision. It was a direct consequence of a failure within a critical safety system designed and installed by Mercedes-Benz. An abrupt emergency stop due to a system malfunction places extreme, unintended stress on the vehicle's mechanical components, including the suspension and alignment systems. While Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown Service authorized the repair and will fully cover its cost, the reason was noted for to agreement was noted as “not to argue with a client who has a long-standing relationship with Mercedes-Benz.” I am asking for this to be officially reported as a defect for Mercedes-Benz to resolve in their design, which will safeguard all future and current drivers as well as the public.Read more

Porsche dashboard leather shrunk and staples pulled out. I was told that if the vehicle was in an accident the airbag might not deploy correctly. The Porsche dealer looked and recommended replacing it. This is a very common issue.
