An AC clutch/compressor malfunction. No cold air, unusual noises (grinding, squealing, rattling), metal shavings, burning rubber smell, engine stalling. No warning lamps or messages ever appeared. The problem was serviced at independent service center. The nearest GM dealer is more than 40 miles away from me. Did not drive vehicle and seeked professional help immediately.

Routine oil change by professional local mechanic. Upon completion we were told that the vehicle would not turnover. The mechanic diagnosed and found that were 2 recalls for our vehicle - one for the fuel pump module and one for the engine. We had our vehicle towed to the local GM dealership. They then replaced the fuel control module. GM tried to manually crank over but engine seized once again.
... We spoke to the GM Advisor prior to this and were told that our vehicle was not part of the engine recall because our VIN was not listed as part of it even though our vehicle had the same exact issues as described in the engine recall and was for the exact year/make/model of the engine. The dealer quoted us $14,896 to replace the engine. They stated they would submit a Goodwill claim to GMC to help discount the cost to repair/replace the engine. The dealer called back later that day and said GMC would be willing to cover 30% of the cost so our expense would be around $10,000. All this for a vehicle we've only driven for less than a year and a half. The vehicle went in for a routine oil change and has never had any issues prior to this. This happened suddenly without any sort of warning. To make matters worse, our powertrain warranty expired a day or two before this occurred. We are still trying to fight with GMC to cover this engine failure. The car has less than 75,000 miles and is only used for basic personal needs like driving to school and the store so it is shocking that the engine would suddenly fail like this and to make matters, the manufacturer refuses to take responsibility for it and to cover it under the recall even though there has been known widespread issues with this engine.Read more

The contact owns a 2020 GMC Sierra Denali. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle shut off unexpectedly. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact made several attempts to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed.
... The contact was later informed that the engine had seized due to engine bearing failure, and the contact was provided an estimate for a new engine. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and linked the recall to the failure. The manufacturer was notified about the failure and the recall, and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. MEMORANDUM To: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Subject: Safety Defect Report – 2019 GMC Yukon Denali 6.2L V8 (L87) with AFM/DFM I am reporting a serious and recurring safety defect involving my 2019 GMC Yukon Denali equipped with the 6.2L V8 L87 engine and GM’s AFM/DFM system. In the past twelve months, I have experienced two separate engine failures, both occurring at
... highway speeds and both involving valve-train/VLOM failures on the same side of the engine. In each incident, the vehicle suddenly lost power, misfired violently, and became unable to maintain speed. This created an extremely dangerous situation for my family. One failure occurred while my wife was driving; the other occurred while my [XXX] son was driving. Both were forced to maneuver across high-speed traffic with a failing engine to reach the shoulder. These events posed a clear risk of a high-speed crash, injury or even a fatality. There are hundreds—possibly thousands—of documented complaints from owners of GM vehicles with AFM/DFM-equipped engines reporting the same issues: collapsed lifters, valve failures, VLOM malfunctions, and sudden loss of propulsion. These failures often occur without warning and show a consistent pattern across multiple model years and engine variants, including the L87. The sudden loss of power at highway speeds represents a significant safety hazard. The frequency of similar reports suggests a systemic mechanical defect rather than isolated incidents. I respectfully request that NHTSA open a formal investigation into AFM/DFM-related failures in GM’s L87 and related V8 engines, with a focus on lifter, valve, and VLOM failures that lead to abrupt engine shutdown. Appropriate safety action, including a mandatory recall, should be done immediately to prevent potential injuries or fatalities. I will provide repair documentation, service reports, and other additional information. [XXX] , Esq. My vehicle has developed a leak in the plastic fuel tank at the junction of the fill hose connection and the body of the tank that is causing release of flammable vapors and liquid gasoline underneath the vehicle and causing failure of emissions systems. These vehicles have a rampant and long-standing reputation for developing leaks in their plastic fuel tanks at this location which cannot be rep
... aired by any normal means available to a consumer. Virtually all of these vehicles eventually develop leaks, which cause release of flammable fuel vapors and raw gasolene releases. Why isn't there a recall on these faulty fuel tanks? DuraMAX 3.0L LZ0 engine with defective crankshaft thrust bearing caused catastrophic engine failure requiring engine replacement. The event occurred at about 1,000 miles. There is a GM TSB that addresses this issue. This failure displayed all of the symptoms as described in the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 25-NA-307. The engine has been replaced by GM. There was only one cryptic dashboard
... message that "acceleration may be reduced", that briefly appeared and then disappeared, three days before the incident. With no check engine light, the mysterious message was chalked up to possibly a DEF low warning. DEF was added. The vehicle displayed no problems during those three days -handling normally. Then while at interstate speeds approximately 90 miles later, the warning that "acceleration is limited" flashed and the vehicle went into limp mode, shortly thereafter the check engine light illuminated. OnStar read the code - P06DD. The email from them stated the recommended action: "Service within 7 days." The following morning the vehicle was presented to a GM dealership service department. Loud "knocking" noises were originating from the rear of the engine compartment at that point in time. The service department reported the engine needed replacement and did so.Read more
