The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an inspection was performed on the engine. The contact was informed that the vehicle had passed the inspection, and the mechanic added a higher viscosity oil, installed an oil fill cap, replaced the oil filter, and
... updated the Owner's Manual. The contact stated that the remedy failed to address or repair the possible defect with the engine. The contact stated that the remedy resulted in a higher cost for oil changes, and fuel economy had decreased from 21 miles per gallon to 18 miles per gallon. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and the contact was provided a case number. The contact stated that the vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.Read more

We have experienced multiple recurring issues with our 2024 GMC Acadia that raise significant safety concerns and affect the vehicle’s reliability and overall operation. First, the brake system exhibits persistent squeaking, even at low speeds or light applications. The dealership has inspected the brakes but the noise continues, raising concerns about premature wear or improper brake function.
... More concerning is the behavior of the automatic braking system while reversing. The system has repeatedly activated the brakes without any obstacle, vehicle, or person behind us. These unexpected braking events have created both physical and psychological stress for occupants and pose a real risk of causing a rear-end collision from another driver who may not anticipate sudden braking. Due to this hazardous condition, we have been forced to deactivate the automatic braking feature entirely, defeating a critical safety system the vehicle is equipped with. Additionally, the engine frequently runs rough during cold start and the initial warm-up period for the first couple of minutes. This rough operation is inconsistent with expected behavior for a new vehicle and has not been fully resolved despite service visits. The TPMS sensors have also been problematic. Several sensors have already been replaced by the dealership, yet we continue to experience intermittent TPMS faults involving at least two wheels. This results in repeated warnings, loss of real-time tire data, and uncertainty about actual tire pressure conditions while driving. We also experience rattling noises from the interior trim near the door seals whenever there is a cross breeze or windy driving conditions. This appears to be a structural or insulation-related issue. We have others, but this space only allows for 2000 characters, and after writing this sentence, there are only 113 characters remaining.Read more

The upper radiator hose on a significant number of these trucks is failing prematurely. In my case, the failure occurred at just over 35,000 miles. Numerous reports on owner forums (such as the Colorado Chevy / GMC Canyon forum), YouTube, and other platforms document the same issue, indicating this is not an isolated incident but a widespread defect. Because this hose is part of the cooling syste
... m, its failure can quickly lead to engine overheating and potentially catastrophic engine damage. The root cause appears to be an engineering flaw in the sealing method: GM uses a rubber seal instead of a durable, high-quality o‑ring to connect the upper hose to the radiator. Despite the seriousness of this defect, my local GMC dealer informed me that—since it is not currently a recall item—they could only schedule service for the following week, requiring me to leave the truck with them for 7–10 days before repairs would be completed. This is unreasonable for consumers who rely on these vehicles daily. Given the safety implications and the potential for engine failure, this issue warrants immediate attention. It should be classified as a recall item. Thousands of examples are already documented online, and GM’s own repair data would likely reveal thousands more instances of this same failure.Read more

There are 2 issues im experiencing. The first is the vehicle won't allow me to shut down the engine because it doesnt recognize that its been shifted into "park". Ive already paid close to 800.00 to.have this repaired because my model year is not covered in the recall. Today, it started doing it again. The safety issue is that either I, my wife, or my teenage daughter (depending on who is with
... the vehicle). Can be left stranded, unless we pop the hood and disconnect the battery. The second issue is that the tire pressure monitor is no longer working. It is sending warnings that our tire pressure is low. When its not. The safety issue is needing to pull to the side of the road to check the tire pressure and also not knowing when the vehicle may actually have a low tire.Read more

I accidentally ran out of gas and my car died directly underneath a railroad crossing arm. I had been stopped to allow an Amtrak train to go by and my car died when I started to move forward after it passed. Thankfully I wasn't on the tracks, but I was close to them. I immediately got out of my car and the woman behind me said she would help push me out of the way of the crossing arm. I went to pu
... t my car in neutral, something I do weekly when I go through the car wash, but my dash kept saying "conditions not correct for shift". I tried repeatedly and it would not allow me to put the car in neutral because I couldn't fully turn it on. I did a quick search online and found there was no information on how to get it into neutral if the car is dead. My battery was still working and my car was in accessory while I was trying to change gears. I had to call 911 and they had to reach out to BNSF to alert incoming trains. It was an ordeal. I spotted a tree removal company across the street and they had a can of gas for me to use. I was able to partially fill my tank and then drive across the tracks before a train came. Afterwards I called the dealer and we discovered together that there is no backup safety feature that allows a disabled car to be put into neutral. The dealer was just as surprised as me. This seems like an obvious safety issue if a car is to break down on train tracks, the middle of the freeway, or in an intersection. I don't understand why it is allowed and why dealerships and the public are seemingly unaware of it.Read more

I had taken our GMC Sierra 2500 with LT275/R20 Goodyear Wrangler tires into Henderson Chevrolet for maintenance and to have the tires checked. The truck is not used for towing and is kept in the garage away from the sun. I asked the technician to double check the
... rear tires for separation and he stated they were fine. A couple of weeks later, I was driving to California and there was a loud bang on the rear driver side. The truck indicated the the tire was losing pressure. I pulled over to the side of the busy road as soon as possible. The entire tread was missing form the tire and when it came off it damaged the wheel well and the rear bumper and taillight. There was a lot of traffic on the highway and not much shoulder it was a pretty scary and unsafe situation I but got the tire changed with the spare. About an hour later the passenger side tire blew up, there was way more damage on this side including bent exhaust and damage to the fender. I had to get roadside assistance to change the tire so I changed both rear tires so i could have a spare. When I took the car back to Henderson Chevrolet they told me this is a common problem they have had 10 in the last 6 months. Boulder Autobody said they had seen 7 in the last 6 months. Henderson Chevrolet sent both tires to Goodyear to be examined and they conveniently lost one of them and stated that the tires were not defective. After escalating to GM customer service, they confirmed extended coverage exists under Special Coverage N252494003 (10 years/150,000 miles) if the diagnostic confirms the issue is related to the recall defect. The fact that my vehicle passed the recall inspection three months ago and is now exhibiting the exact failure symptoms the recall was designed to prevent raises concerns that the inspection procedure may not be detecting all affected engines. ... d was recurrent. The sound persisted on a fairly frequent though intermittent basis. A recording was made and another appt made for routine spark plug replacement. Upon return and repeat inspection it was discovered that oil filter was full of metal shavings and advised it was very likely necessary for a complete engine overhaul (with $18-20 K price tag). Checking online it was discovered that this GM motor had a 580,000 vehicle recall for 2021-2024 models. A new ODI study is being done for similar complaints for 2019-2021 year models (additional 280,000 vehicles). The 6.2L motors have been found to have a crankshaft/bearing issue leading to motor failure and even sudden loss of power often presenting with metal particulate matter being discovered. Awaiting resolution.Read more

Reduced engine power warning light came on at approximately 7600 miles on our new 2025 Yukon xl. Dealer inspected and ultimately decided the engine needs to be replaced due to crankshaft end play out of spec. This is a know GM issue. Incorrect thrust bearing was installed from the factory. Gm did not inform us of this issue. This could have resulted in catastrophic engine failure and cause to be s

MY 2020 5.3 L GMC AT4 IS EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER WITH BUCKING & STALLING. CYLINDERS ARE NOT ACTIVATING WHEN CALLED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLASHING, IT STARTS ROUGH AND MAKES NUMEROUS NOISES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, AS WELL AS AT IDLE. SO I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP. OUR MECHANIC FOUND TWO FAILED FUEL INJECTORS AND A FAILED THROTTLE BODY. THEN THE LOUD KNOCKS IN MY BLOCK FAILED
... AN ACOUSTIC TEST. HE ALSO DETERMINED THE LIFTERS, PUSH RODS AND CAMSHAFT ARE EXPERIENCING EXCESSIVE WEAR. THE AFM SYSTEM HAS FAILED! HE WARNED ME THAT FURTHER USE OF MY MOTOR (WITH ONLY 42K MILES ON IT) WILL CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THESE ISSUES ARE BECOMING COMMON OF 5.3 GMC MOTORS. WE SEARCHED THE COUNTRY FOR A REBUILT MOTOR AND FOUND THAT NONE ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS. HOWEVER, I WAS ABLE TO FIND A NEW MOTOR AT MUCH GREATER COST. GMC HAS DECLINED ASSISTANCE AT THIS TIME. MY VEHICLE HAS NO VALUE AS IS, SO I ORDERED THE NEW GM ENGINE. WITHOUT THE DOD SYSTEM, THESE ENGINES WERE DESIGNED TO GO WELL OVER 100,000 MILES. I AM A FAITHFUL GMC OWNER AND NONE OF MY PREVIOUS GMC TRUCKS (2003, 2013, 2015, 2019) HAD SUCH A MAJOR PROBLEM. NOW THE 2020'S FUEL SAVING SYSTEM HAS FAILED AND REQUIRES REPAIRS THAT AMOUNT TO HALF THE VALUE OF MY TRUCK. WHEN A FULL SIZE TRUCK STALLS ON THE HIGHWAY IT'S CERTAINLY LIFE THREATENING.Read more

THE fuel pressure line from the fuel pump to the flex fuel sensor chaffed a pin hole leak near the front top of the fuel tank. This caused a significant fuel smell and trace leak at the front of the fuel tank which could lead to a fire or explosion. The new hose has a longer chaffing covering leading me to believe gm knew about this issue. vehicle has 127,000 miles. I feel gm should reimburse me
... for this repair as a fuel line should not have ever chaffed through and leaked.Read more

Heard a ticking noise then check engine light started blinking along with service esc and parking brake. Took it to the dealer and I had a bad lifter again. I was previously repair for lifters under warranty a little over 2 years ago.

On July 3, 2025 we were traveling on a 4 lane at 55mph. Without any prior symptoms, the vehicle began to shake violently. It shook so hard that the skid warning light simultaneously came on. It was followed by the check engine light. The oil pressure guage started bouncing around. We stopped driving the vehicle and had it towed to VanYork GMC dealer in Asheboro, NC on this same day. (Invoice a
... ttached) VanYork GMC determined that cyclinder 5 was misfiring. We paid to have them repair it, and we began driving the vehicle again. (invoice attached) On or about August 1, 2025 we were traveling on an interstate at 70mph. Without any forewarning, the vehicle began to violently shake. Just as before, the skid warning light simultaneously came on, followed by the check engine light came on, and then the oil pressure guage started bouncing around. As there was heavy traffic on the interstate, the failure created a very dangerous situation for us as we tried to maintain our lane, and stay in control of the vehicle until which time we were able to safely maneuver to the side of the road. The vehicle was again towed to Vann York GMC in Asheboro, NC. (invoice attached) On December 3, 2025 we received a call from VannYork GMC saying that the vehicle repairs were complete. It had been in their repair shop for 4 months. This repair began with lifter and camshaft replacement. When this repair was unsuccessful, they decided that the vehicle needed a 'new' rebuilt engine. Since GMC has not offered any assistance with the expense of this new re-built engine, we will have to satisfy the $12,000 bill when we pick it up. After experiencing two very dangerous episodes, we are happy that we did not wreck, but certainly, this not the situation we expected from a high-end vehicle with only 76,169 miles on it.Read more
