The contact's wife and daughter were also inside the vehicle during the failure and were frightened and concerned for their safety during the failure. The dealer was contacted and was provided a description of the failure over the phone. The dealer informed the contact that the vacuum pump and an unknown part had possibly failed. The contact was advised that the failure was possibly related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included in the recall, and there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle for the failure. Additionally, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.Read more

Incident date: Mar 18, 2026
I am filing a complaint regarding a catastrophic engine failure in my 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine. While driving under normal conditions, the engine suddenly failed without warning and threw a connecting rod, rendering the vehicle inoperable. There were no prior warning signs such as knocking, overheating, oil pressure issues or even a check engine light. The vehicle has
... been properly maintained, including regular oil changes using manufacturer-recommended 0W-40 oil. This failure created a serious safety concern due to the sudden loss of power while driving, which could have resulted in a dangerous situation, especially at highway speeds or in traffic. I am aware that General Motors has issued a recall and/or is aware of similar failures involving the 6.2L engine in certain 2021 vehicles. However, my vehicle’s build date falls just outside the currently defined recall range, despite experiencing the exact same type of catastrophic failure described in those cases. My build date is 12/20 and the recall was issued for 3/21. Given the similarity of this failure to known issues, I believe this defect extends beyond the currently identified recall population. This raises concerns that additional vehicles, including mine, are at risk of sudden engine failure without warning. I am requesting that National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue further and consider expanding the recall to include additional affected vehicles outside the current build date range.Read more

Incident date: Mar 9, 2026
The failure involved the engine (6.2L L87 V8), specifically suspected internal components such as the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, as identified in a current recall. The vehicle is currently located at Dennis GM in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and is available for inspection. On March 9, while driving the vehicle normally on a main highway, the engine suddenly lost all power without warning.
... The accelerator became completely unresponsive and the vehicle rolled to a stop in the middle of a main highway. The engine would not restart. Due to the electronic gear selector, the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral, leaving both the truck and trailer immobilized in a live traffic lane. This created a serious safety risk to myself and other motorists, especially as I was in an area without cellular service and could not immediately call for assistance. The problem has not yet been formally diagnosed, as the vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting inspection. However, the symptoms are consistent with known failures described in the recall affecting these engines. The vehicle had previously undergone recall inspection on September 1, 2025 and was cleared at that time. The vehicle has been inspected previously by an authorized GM dealer as part of the recall process, but no defect was identified. It has since been towed to Dennis GM following the failure and is pending further inspection. No police or insurance inspections have been conducted. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. The engine failure was sudden and without any indication of an issue beforehand.Read more

The vehicle experiences a transmission/drivetrain defect involving delayed gear engagement, hesitation, and apparent slipping. It results in loss of acceleration, violent shaking, and inability to maintain or build speed, creating a serious safety risk in traffic. It first happened around 1 year (early 2026) after the new car purchase (Nov 2025). There are no warning lights or messages. The dealer claimed they were unable to reproduce the issue during a brief test drive without me present and incorrectly attributed it to a bulletin without performing a detailed diagnosis or repair or looking at the video we recorded on the issue. The issue persists and affects safe operation of the vehicle. No inspection has been done by police or insurance. In one instance, this occurred while other vehicles were approaching from behind, creating a dangerous situation where I could not accelerate to match traffic flow. This resulted in a high risk of being rear-ended due to the unexpected loss of acceleration. I am aware of other consumer reports describing similar transmission-related symptoms such as slipping, hard shifting, and hesitation in this model. Some complaints describe transmission issues occurring at low mileage without warning lights.Read more

The failure resulted in a complete loss of propulsion at highway speeds on the interstate, requiring immediate deceleration and maneuvering to a

The condition was confirmed by a GM dealer using diagnostic procedures, including a Pico scope test, which verified internal engine failure. Prior to failure, there were no warning lights or messages. The only symptom was increasing engine noise and knocking from the lower end shortly before the loss of power. My truck has been exhibiting hard downshifting at certain speeds, when the powertrain loads up such as a grade change, and requires a downshift. I have complained about this issue to the dealership as early as 2022, and 33,185 miles. The dealership made me pay for a transmission $388.90 flush which did not resolve the issue. The problem has become progressively worse, to the point where the tol
... l road transponder fell of my windshield during a recent harsh downshifting incident. At the same time there was an existing MIL and derating for a DEF heater and NOx sensor failure, so during a warranty visit I asked that this transmission issue be addressed. On Friday March 13, the dealership called and said they confirmed the hard downshifting, albeit not as extreme as I described. The technician said that the valvebody needs to be replaced. At the same time, they performed a TCM flash for the 10L1000 momentary wheel lockup recall. The dealership then said they could not get the truck to set a P0747 code, said that GM refuses to replace the faulty valve body, and recommended I take the vehicle home unrepaired, and to come back when the P0747 code is set. I requested they continue to drive the vehicle. Today March 20 the dealership called and said they could not get the code to set, and that I need to drive the truck and come back when the code appears, despite the truck exhibiting clear symptoms of a progressively wearing feed limit low valve. N242454441 does NOT seem to indicate a P0747 code is required to replace the valve body. This vehicle is not safe for towing a 20,000+lbs and GMC is refusing to repair a transmission with symptoms congruent with N242454441. The dealership still has possession of the vehicle and wants $360+ in diagnostic labor.Read more
