The message “Consider taking a coffee break” will pop up just 15 minutes into a trip. This message beeps prior to flashing on the screen which causes us to take our eyes off the road to determine what is beeping and continues to “alert” us often during our travels. Hyundai has not provided a way for this warning to be deactivated. Hyundai has way too many messages beeping and appearing on
... the screen that causes distractions and has not provided a way to turn them off. As for the speed control, my ophthalmologist suggested I wear dark sunglasses due to issues I have in bright sunlight. The speed control will actually turn off if I wear dark sunglasses because the onboard camera cannot see my eyes. Also, the speed control will turn off if I’m making a turn and my arm gets in the way of the camera. This is extremely dangerous that the speed control just stops. We also will get beeps and a message on the screen if the camera cannot see our eyes, even when we are looking straight ahead. Again, this causes us to see what is beeping and what the message says. This is a distraction that causes us to take our eyes off the road. Terrible design.Read more

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Hyundai Motor America and the Freehold Hyundai dealership located in New Jersey, regarding the ongoing engine oil consumption issues in my Hyundai Sonata. I purchased a 2019 Hyundai Sonata and its now 90,000 miles, I began noticing extreme oil loss, far more than a quart per thousand miles, with no visible leaks, no smoke, and no warning lights. I b
... rought the vehicle to Freehold Hyundai for an evaluation, and they performed an oil consumption test, confirming the issue. They submitted a goodwill repair request to Hyundai Corporate, which was denied solely on the basis that I am the second owner, and the powertrain warranty does not transfer. The dealership offered a $200 PCV valve replacement (a part that costs $6–$20), but even their staff said it likely won’t resolve the issue. Their proposed solution is a full engine replacement costing $8,000 or more, which I cannot afford. I believe this is part of a broader manufacturing defect, and Hyundai should take accountability for the engine failure, especially considering similar complaints from Sonata and Elantra owners nationwide. TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) have been issued on related issues. A car engine should not fail before 100,000 miles under normal use, regardless of ownership transfer. This issue has been the subject of TSB 20-01-004H, which addresses excessive oil consumption due to piston ring Hyundai’s refusal to provide any real assistance or remedy — and the dismissive conduct by dealership management — has left me feeling discriminated against, frustrated, and financially trapped. I request the BBB’s help in facilitating a fair resolution, either through: A warranty repair or subsidized engine repair Coverage under goodwill or defect-related remedy Reimbursement or alternative assistance Please find all supporting documentation attached, including my Hyundai case number dealer correspondence, and oil test results.Read more

I was driving at 65 mph (legal speed limit on Express Lanes) and entire front console went black. I was on Bluetooth call which dropped. I pulled over at the first exit, turned off the engine and restarted the car. The services slowly reloaded and
... were restored. The next day the console began to blink but did not go out entirely. I went to the closest Genesis dealership and spoke to a technician. She said that other Genesis models are having similar issues and this has triggered a safety recall. She said that my Genesis 2025 GV-80 is not covered by the safety recall and said that the dealer will have to keep the car for an indefinite period of time and try to replicate the issue. She said without a recall, they cannot replace the malfunctioning parts. Genesis dealership will not be able to schedule my car for maintenance until late August. ... itionally the car unexpectedly jerked towards a pedestrian when I was stopped at a stop sign. I researched and discovered that this is a known issue concerning my year and model due to a manufacturer error when the vehicle was assembled. The incorrect oil was place into the transfer case which ultimately causes damage leading to the unsafe driving condition that I am currently experiencing. There are no warning or check engine lights to make the driver aware of the issue. Below is the direct from BMW's notice on the issue, SIB 27 02 20. To my surprise, there was never a recall to fix this issue for the make and models affected . I am asking for the NHTSA to investigate and issue are recall for repair and replacement of the transfer case that was damaged prior to consumer purchase for the models outlined in the service bulletin. BMW replaces the oil as the first level repair at the cost of the owner which seems to only be temporary. Incident date: Jun 1, 2025
** Component/system that failed: The engine and catalytic converter. An independent mechanic confirmed the catalytic converter is clogged due to engine oil burning and entering the exhaust system. The component is still in the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. ** Safety risk: The car struggles to accelerate, especially from a stop or uphill, and cannot reliably reach or maintain
... highway speeds. It revs at 3,500–4,000 RPM at just 20–60 mph. This creates a serious safety hazard, especially when merging, changing lanes, or avoiding traffic, putting myself and others at risk. ** Problem confirmed: Yes. A trusted independent shop diagnosed and confirmed the engine is burning oil, contaminating the catalytic converter, and advised against replacing the converter until the root cause is fixed, or it will fail again. The Kia dealership dismissed the issue without testing, claiming it’s acceptable to burn 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. However, my vehicle consumes about 1 quart every 500 miles despite routine 2,500-mile oil changes with 5W-20 high-mileage oil. This excessive consumption is abnormal and being overlooked without proper evaluation. ** Inspection by manufacturer or others: Yes. A Kia dealership inspected the vehicle but refused to perform an oil consumption test, claiming the vehicle was “too unstable to drive,” despite me driving it 20 miles there. They blamed the converter failure on “normal wear and tear,” and denied the presence of an oil leak. ** Warning symptoms prior to failure: Yes. The symptoms began months ago and progressed over time, including: loss of power, high RPMs under low speed, poor fuel economy (range dropped from 350 to 310 miles), and difficulty accelerating. No warning lights have appeared. ** Additional note: This issue closely mirrors NHTSA Recall 19V120, but my Soul has a 2.0L engine, not a 1.6L. Many 2.0L owners report the same problem. I believe this defect should be investigated for recall expansion.Read more

I am reporting a safety concern involving the airbag system of my 2025 Lucid Air (VIN: [XXX] ). I brought the vehicle to Lucid’s Tysons, VA service center due to a thumping sensation in the steering wheel while turning. On [XXX] Lucid diagnosed the issue as internal play in the bracket that mounts the driver airbag. Instead of replacing the bracket or steering wheel assembly, the technician appl
... ied “sound dampening tape” to eliminate movement and reinstalled the original parts. This raises serious concerns about compliance with FMVSS 208, which governs airbag performance and crash safety. A loose or shifting airbag bracket could compromise airbag deployment direction or timing. The use of adhesive tape to correct physical bracket play in a federally regulated safety system appears to be a non-standard and potentially non-compliant repair method. Lucid has provided no documentation confirming that this repair method was approved by their engineering team or validated against crashworthiness standards. As a consumer, I am concerned about the long-term integrity of the Supplemental Restraint System and the potential risk of injury in a collision. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether this type of repair complies with federal safety requirements. Description of the Problem: The fuel pump housing on my 2016 Volkswagen Passat (1.8L TSI) developed visible cracks, which caused a persistent fuel vapor smell around the vehicle, especially after refueling. The failed component — the plastic fuel pump assembly manufactured by Continental — is available for inspection and has been photographed. Safety Risk: The cracks allowed gasoline vapors
... to escape, creating a clear fire hazard. I experienced headaches from the fumes while driving, and the smell was strongest when the vehicle was full of fuel. Vapors were most noticeable when the air circulator was turned off, suggesting that fumes were entering the cabin. Confirmed by Mechanic: A certified independent mechanic confirmed the cracks after removing the back seat and inspecting the fuel pump directly. The entire assembly was replaced, and the issue was resolved. Prior to this, a VW dealership misdiagnosed the problem as a bad gasket, quoting me over $1,300 for a repair that would not have addressed the actual issue. Inspection History: The vehicle was inspected by the VW dealership first, and later by the independent shop that completed the repair. No police or insurance involvement. Symptoms: No warning lights or messages appeared. The only symptoms were the strong fuel odor, especially when the tank was full, and inaccurate fuel gauge readings leading up to the diagnosis. Summary: This issue appears similar to other known failures involving Continental-manufactured fuel pump flanges that have led to VW recalls in other models. My concern is that this defect may extend beyond currently recalled vehicles and should be investigated further.Read more

The incident occurred during a journey from Sacramento, CA, to Winchester, CA, a distance of approximately 486 miles in my 2022 GMC Sierra AT4, equipped with the recalled 6.2L V8 engine, which has accumulated around 61,000 miles. I was driving when a loud bang caught my attention over the music. After that, I heard swooshing sounds three times before the engine lost power. I was able to move over
... to the right shoulder throughout heavy traffic; I managed to make it safely. During the maneuvering of my truck to the shoulder, I noticed on the dashboard that the vehicle was telling me to shift the vehicle to neutral and start it. I shifted the vehicle to neutral, but it did not start. Upon inspecting the fuses and battery for any obvious issues, I proceeded to check the harmonic balancer for signs of engine seizing. The engine had completely locked up.Read more

This vehicle had been in the shop for over a month due to the emergency brake system freezing up causing my rear wheels to lock up, to smoke and rotors become damaged. Dealership could not find anything wrong as could not duplicate the issue. They did say that the EBS did engage while driving down the interstate at 70+ MPH. No reason why. Not normal! It was returned to me. Then 1 week afte

When it gets back to normal, there is a definite clunk. Do not get any warning lights. Has happened 3 time in less than 2 weeks. Is not safe to drive! It is back at the dealership. Something is wrong with the vehicle. Have a videoRead more

I purchased a 2015 Kia Optima 2.4L GDI (VIN: [XXX] ) with a blown engine, which is covered under Kia’s extended engine warranty. I contacted Jim Butler Kia in Chesterfield, MO, where the last service was performed, and requested the free engine replacement under warranty. They acknowledged that the car is covered, but refused to perform the repair because the vehicle is not yet registered. I ex
... plained that I have the title in my name and proof of ownership, but cannot register the car in Missouri because it does not run and must pass safety and emissions inspection to be registered. Despite showing them the title and explaining the situation, they continue to deny warranty service. I believe this is unfair and against Kia’s warranty policy, which requires proof of ownership—not necessarily registration. I’m requesting the dealership to honor the warranty and perform the repair, as the issue is known and covered by Kia’s engine recall campaign. I am not seeking financial compensation—just proper and fair warranty service for a defect Kia already acknowledges INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more
