After experiencing numerous issues with Jost 5th wheels, specifically JSK36N model. The Wear ring bolts (NT0000005) are constantly getting loose making the Wear ring (SK 2105-19) move in the 5th wheel plate, what we consider unsafe. While working on hundreds of trucks we have noticed that this is this issue is very popular. The drivers have been complaining about the trailer king pin being loose
... in the 5th wheel, causing a hit/push on start/stop when driven in combination (truck + trailer). Because of not having the solid connection, the ‘’hits’’ are affecting the drivetrain (differentials and transmission) on the long run. Some on the drivers are panicking and not concentrated on the road, all because feeling unsafe due to the excessive 5th wheel free play. After the detailed inspection and understanding the problem, our technicians replaced hundreds of the Ring bolts, applied thread locker and torqued properly. Unfortunately the issue comes back again. The only way to get this issue resolved is to replace the whole 5th wheel assembly. This can get very pricy considering that the replacement of the 5th wheel costs thousands of dollars. It hardly hurts the bigger fleets. The situation described above was noticed mostly on 2017-2019 Freightliner Cascadia’sRead more

Attached to this is the federal certification label for an Ultra Liner 45 built on the Freightliner chassis. Executive Coach Builders is building this bus, National Bus Sales is selling this bus to schools in Oklahoma and Texas. The states have allowed that, but as an OEM that goes against what is currently allowed.

I purchased a new P4 through my employers Lease Purchase program, and when I ordered my new truck, I ordered it with the Hendrickson Air-Ride Suspension Package for the front axle, disc brakes front and rear, and a few other options. My truck required 14 all axle alignment’s before it was driving correctly, after destroying both left & right steer tires. One Freightliner dealer set the right fro
... nt at 7/16” toe-in, after I threatened to bring legal action against the dealership, only to learn three weeks later, the toe-in was set at 7/16”, which destroyed the tire. I personally measured the rear axle alignment with a tape measure to find both drive axles are staggered approximately 1.3” to 1.75” causing my drive tires to wear abnormally fast, forcing me to buy new tires for $7,000+. The worst part is the Hendrickson Air Ride Suspension unit is extremely “sloppy” and noisy when driving and turning at all speeds, constantly making loud “clunking” sounds, which are all felt heavily while hold the steering wheel. Nobody seems to want anything to do with my new truck, and if I get killed while driving my truck, because of faulty manufacturing, at least you have a record of my case to investigate further. I just learned yesterday from another driver, that Freightliner just discovered their trucks with the Hendrickson Air Ride Suspension System option have all been issued a “Service Bulletin” to replace faulty, leaking ride-height control valves which can cause a catastrophic crash by suddenly dropping one or both sides of the front air suspension, causing a sudden swerving condition, which can be catastrophic. My truck cost me $180,000 plus, and I want my monies worth, before I’m killed by faulty craftsmanship. Please investigate this matter, as I know there are many more drivers and owners who are experiencing these same manufacturing defects.Read more

Reference no, 11354207. I called the US department of transportation on September 10, 2022 to report the braking failure on my truck that cost my driver his life. I've since called them a couple of times, but have not heard back from them. There have been multiple other reports where the same brake failure occurred, but there has not been any other follow up.

Upon driving this truck for the first time, previous trucks were Kenworth and Peterbilt, it quickly came to my attention that the passenger side door mirror housing blocks drivers view when scanning to the right before entering a roadway. I the affected area extends from the front of the A-pillar to the outside of the mirror housing. When this model was designed the mirror housing that attaches
... to the door was swept back for asthetic reasons I am guessing. This creates a dangerous situation since a lot of the drivers are placed in this particular model when they first start driving. If I was to purchase this particular model, I would immediately replace the mirror with one that was positioned 90 degrees to the door as both the older Freightliner and the trucks mentioned above are. I am not sure how this particular change was approved unless it was tested in a static environment. Please look into this, but the only way to experience what I am describing is too test it in as close to a real world environment as possible.Read more

I don't need AEB and want you like the government to protect my life and right to disable legally AEB and lane changing system from the truck. I want to take responsibility 100% for any accidents front end collisions or losing control of a vehicle. I am a rally driver, I know how to handle equipment in severe conditions, I know physics and know-how to go off-road, drift. I don't want some system like AEB to held me liable if there would be an accident caused by it. I want you, as protector of our rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness to allow drivers to choose by the will to legally disable the AEB system taking responsibility. I take care of road safety and even want to buy one day a Cab Over Engine semi-truck because I am watching the road all the time. I hold a safe following distance and never did a hard brake in 3 years of driving to avoid a collision. I want an AEB system only when it gonna surpass my professional approach to safe driving. It needs more development and calibration, and cameras surrounding systems to do it better. As for now, I don't want to risk my life being an experiment in the eyes of big manufacturing companies.Read more

The Lane Keep Assistant (LKA) as implemented is a severe safety flaw. The LKA only take input from lane markers on the road but fails to consider other issues such as other vehicles or construction. Several times on my most recent drive on interstate highways at 70-80 mph I was passing large semi trucks. The trucks drifted out of their lane and into my lane. I took emergency evasive action to s
... teer my vehicle out of the way of the semi truck but the Lane Keep Assistant (LKA) noticed I was out of my lane and aggressively steered my vehicle back into the other vehicle. Luckily I did not hit the other vehicle but the LKA made avoiding other vehicles more difficult and could contribute to a collision if the driver is not foreful enough to both steer out of the way of danger and to counter the steering control of the LKA. 1. This feature should not be allowed on vehicles as implemented. In my 30 years of the driving this is the most dangerous feature I have ever experienced. My vehicle is trying to kill me!! 2. This feature should have the ability to be set to "off" permanently or tied to a driver's profile settings to remain off while that driver is in control. Drivers should not have to remember to turn off the feature manually every time the car is started. 3. Driver's should have the ability to turn off steering control but still have the lane departure warning signal.Read more

The lower power steering return hose came off while driving just outside Albuquerque, NM. My van had only 2861 miles on it. The clamps had been replaced due to factory recall by my dealer in Salt Lake City, UT prior to delivery to me, but the factory hose was still too short, and clamps still not adequate. I was able to put it on and drive it 30 miles to a Mercedes dealer in Albuquerque, wher
... e they put new clamps on, but they did not install a longer hose. They said factory hose was fine. I made it to Durango, CO (just 3-1/2 hour drive)and it started leaking again. Sprinter roadside assistance arranged to have it towed to the Salt Lake dealer and they replaced the hose with a longer one and installed double clamps and it is working great now. This should never have happened to begin with. I am thankful the steering did not go out while driving over the mountain passes!! They should include replacing the hose with a longer one, as well as with better clamps for the factory recall.Read more

THIS VEHICLE IS OUTFITTED WITH A BRIDGEPORT AUTOMATED ARM GARBAGE TRUCK BODY. AN ACCIDENT RECENTLY OCCURRED ON 14 APRIL 2021 BECAUSE OF NO WARNING SENSOR ON THE FORKS WITH GRAB THE GARBAGE/RECYCLE CART TO WARN THE DRIVER THAT THE FORKS ARE NOT COMPLETELY RETRACTED AND SAFELY STOW FOR TRANSPORT. A WARNING SENSOR IS ON THE FORK BOOM TO WARN THE DRIVER THAT THE BOOM IS NOT FULLY RETRACTED HOWEVER TH
... IS DOES NOT LET THE DRIVER KNOW THAT THE FORKS ARE STILL A POTENTIAL HAZARD. I REALIZE THAT IT IS THE DRIVER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW ALL THE ELEMENTS OF HIS TRUCK, HOWEVER DRIVER'S DO MAKE MISTAKES AND IF THE COMPANY SEES A POTENTIAL ISSUES WITH SAFETY BY INSTALLING A WARNING ALARM ON THE BOOM, SIMPLY MOVING IT TO BEHIND THE FORKS WOULD ELIMINATE ANY POSSIBLY DAMAGE/INJURY TO VEHICLES OR BICYCLIST AND PEDESTRIANS.Read more

I DRIVE A 2020 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA EQUIPPED WITH THE MERITOR WABCO ON GUARD COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM ROUTINELY SIGNALS AN IMPENDING COLLISION AND APPLIES THE BRAKES, SOMETIMES IN A VERY AGGRESSIVE WAY, FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. IT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE EVERY SINGLE DAY. THE SYSTEM TAKES COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BRAKING SYSTEM AND THERE IS NO WAY FOR THE DRIVER TO STOP THE
... HARD APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT ALL ON GUARD CMS SYSTEMS DO THIS OCCASIONALLY. I BELIEVE THIS SYSTEM IS UNSAFE AND MERITOR WABCO SHOULD BE COMPELLED TO FIX THIS ISSUE.Read more
