TIRES NOT +OR- INFLATED, & TRAILER WAS LOADED LIGHT FOR TRIP: INDIANA TO DAYTONA, FLORIDA. 50 MILES INTO TRIP, RIGHT SIDE REAR TRAILER TIRE BLEW APART. WE USED THE TIRE WE JUST PURCHASED (ON THE DAMAGED RIM), AND PANICKED ABOUT WHAT COULD HAPPEN NEXT. DAYTONA WAS STILL A LONG WAY OFF... AND WE'D ALREADY LOST 2 TIRES. I CALLED OUR RV DEALER & TOLD THEM THAT TWO TIRES FAILING FOR NO APPARENT REASON IS NO COINCIDENCE: (ONE TIRE HAD <3000 MILES; THE OTHER HAD <100 MILES!) HE SAID SAVE THE BAD TIRES. NOW WE ARE TOO SHAKEN TO CONTINUE DRIVING ON CARLISLE BRAND TIRES. WE STOPPED AT ANOTHER BIG O TIRE STORE, AND HAD THEM REPLACE THE OTHER TWO TIRES WITH NON-CARLISLE TIRES! WE STILL HAD ONE CARLISLE TIRE ON, SO THE ENTIRE TRIP TO FLORIDA AND BACK WAS SPENT LOOKING AT THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS, WATCHING FOR TIRE TROUBLE, WHICH MEANT WE COULDN'T DRIVE IN DARK: BASICALLY WAITING FOR THE LAST CARLISLE TIRE BLOW. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT MY FOREST RIVER SANDPIPER 5TH WHEEL RV TRAILER I HAD FOUND THAT THE DOOR FRAME TO THE ENTRANCE DOOR WAS CRACKING. I TOOK THE RV BACK TO THE DEALER, FAMILY FUN RV, FOR INSPECTION AND WARRANTY REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD ORDERED ME A NEW DOOR AND FRAME. SOON AFTER, WITHOUT CONTACTING ME, THE DEALER WENT OUT OF BUSINESS AND HAD NOT REPAIRED THE DOOR. IN JULY

HE SAID THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE ONE OF THE ANCHOR BOLTS APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN AND THAT HE HAD SEEN THE HAPPEN BEFORE. HE ADVISED ME TO SEND HIM PHOTOS TO [email protected] AND THE WOULD CONTACT THE CHASSIS DEALER AND LET ME KNOW WHAT COULD BE DONE. THE SAME MODEL OF MY TRAILER NOW COMES STANDARD WITH THESE HEAVIER AXLES AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT. I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED (09/03/04) CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF TWO CARLISLE TIRES (ABOUT 80 MILES BETWEEN FAILURES) ON MY TRAVEL TRAILER. THE TRAILER WAS PURCHASED NEW ON 09/14/01 (FLAGSTAFF SUPERLITE 25 LD) AND THE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MILES. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FIRST FAILURE (CURB SIDE REAR) UNTIL I STOPPED FOR GAS. ALL THAT WAS LEFT OF THE TIRE ON THE WHEEL WAS THE TWO SIDE WALLS. FOR
... TUNATELY THE FRONT TIRE ON THE CURB SIDE DID NOT FAIL. WE INSTALLED THE SPARE TIRE AND CONTINUED. ABOUT 80 MILES FARTHER THE FRONT TIRE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER. I RETRIEVED A CHUNK OF THE TIRE TREAD FROM THE HIGHWAY. LATER I FOUND ANOTHER PIECE UNDER THE BATH TUB. THE DAMAGE TO THE TRAILER WAS REPAIRED FOR $142.13 (NEW INNER FENDER $49.95, NEW TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY FOR LICENSE PLATE $12.18, REPLACEMENT PLATE $5.00 AND LABOR $75.00). WITH TWO FAILURES WITHIN 100 MILES, WE DECIDED TO REPLACE ALL FIVE TIRES. THE FAILED TIRES WERE CARLISLE RADIAL ST, ST175/80R13 LOAD RANGE C. OTHER NUMBERS ON THE SIDE WALL OF THE SPARE TIRE WHICH I KEPT UNMOUNTED ARE: CR9579-2, AND DRCD80-A-EFS. I PHONED CARLISLE TIRE AND TOLD MY STORY TO THEIR SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. SHE SAID THE TIRE WARRANTY WAS FOR TWO YEARS. I SAID I WAS UNHAPPY WITH CARLISLE TIRES AND THE FACT THAT THEIR CATASTROPHIC FAILURE DAMAGED MY TRAILER. TIRE PRESSURE WAS AGAIN CHECKED AND FOUND TO BE 50 PSI.
