VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED AT 60 MPH WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. TIRES WERE RETURNED TO CARLISLE FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THEY WERE DAMAGED BY IMPROPER INFLATION, AND IMPACT DAMAGE. *KB

MY PIN BOX FRAME ON MY 2008, FOREST RIVER, CHEROKEE WOLF PACK, MODEL # WP 295, THAT IS MANUFACTURED BY LIPPERT IS EXPERIENCING METAL SEPARATION/TEAR IN THE FRAME THAT IS ALMOST ENTIRELY ENCOMPASSES THE FRAME WORK AND WELDS THAT ARE CRACKED CAUSING A UNSAFE CONDITION WHERE THE TRUCK AND TRAILER COULD BE SEPARATED FROM EACH OTHER DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR

SHACKLE PLATE BOLTS WERE TIGHT WITH LOCK NUTS BUT ALL OF THE BOLT HOLES ON THE 8 SHACKLE PLATES (2 ON EACH PLATE SO 16 HOLES) WERE WALLERED CAUSING EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR, BLOWOUTS, AND TRAILER FENDERSKIRT DAMAGE. FOREST RIVER WARRANTY ADMINISTRATOR CLAIMS THE CONSUMER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CHECKING SHACKLE BOLTS HOWEVER SINCE THE BOLTS WERE TIGHT, DAMAGE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE.
... FORTUNATELY THE PROBLEM WAS DETECTED BY THE CONSUMER BEFORE THE SHACKLE PLATES BROKE AND AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED. FACTORY REPLACEMENT SHACKLES WERE 1/2 INCH THICK WHEREAS ORIGINAL PARTS WERE 1/4 INCH THICK. FOREST RIVER NEEDS TO USE THE THICKER SHACKLES INITIALLY RATHER THAN WAITING TO SEE IF THE TRAILER SURPASSES THEIR ONE YEAR WARRANTY. OUR UNIT WAS 14 MONTHS OLD BUT THE PROBLEM WOULD HAVE DEVELOPED SOONER IF WE HAD TRAVELED MORE MILES. PURCHASED NEW 2008 FORESTRIVER FLAGSTAFF HW CAMPER JUNE 20, 2008 FROM TOM JOHNSON'S RV IN MARION, NC. I LEFT HOME WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN FOR A 3 WEEK ROADTRIP ON JUNE 23, 2008 PULLING THIS CAMPER. ON OUR ROUTE HOME ON I-29, JUST OUTSIDE OF COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA, MY CAR AND CAMPER SWERVED VIOLENTLY. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP IT UNDER CONTROL THINKING IT WAS CAUSED BY THE WIND. MY 4 GRANDCHILDREN AND I WAITED IN THE LOBBY ALL DAY WHILE THEY REPAIRED THE CAMPER. WHEN THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETE WE AGAIN TRIED TO REACH TOM JOHNSON'S BUT RECEIVED A RECORDING THAT THEY WERE CLOSED. WE ALSO CONTACTED FOREST RIVER. NEITHER OF THE TWO COMPANIES OFFERED TO PAY FOR THE EXTRA EXPENSES I INCURRED. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET - MONEY I NEEDED TO COVER EXPENSES ON THE WAY HOME. LATER I DID RECEIVE A CHECK FOR PART OF THE COST FROM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE BRAKES OR WHEEL. THE REPAIRMEN AT CAMPING WORLD SAID THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS HAPPEN WITH TRAILORS LIKE THE ONE THAT MY CAMPER WAS BUILT ON. THE WHEELS SHIFTED RIGHT ALLOWING BOTH RIGHT TIRES TO RUB ON INNER WHEEL WELL. AND LIPPERT COMPONENTS INC. THE AXEL ASSEMBLY MANUFACTURER. BOTH HAVE BEEN UNRESPONSIVE TO DATE. THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH FOREST RIVER CAMPERS. I SHARED THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN ODI REPORTS 10284710, 10225758 AND 10284602 WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER MAX YOUNG, WHO CONFIRMED UPON READING THE REPORTS, THAT THIS IS THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. HE SAID LIPPERT COMPONENTS SUPPLIES THE AXLES AS SUBASSEMBLIES, WITH THE U BOLTS ALREADY INSTALLED TO FOREST RIVER. THEREFORE FOREST RIVER DOES NOT WANT TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. IT SEEMS LIKELY THAT THE U- BOLTS ARE EITHER OVERLOADED OR MATERIALLY DEFECTIVE FOR THE INSTALLATION AND APPEAR TO BE STRETCHING AND ALLOWING THE NUTS TO ROTATE. WE HAVE A 2004 CARDINAL 5TH WHEEL THAT HAD KENDA TIRES LT23585R16 ON A SHORT TRIP WE BLEW A TIRE ON THE WAY TO N.H(7/27/10) AND ONE ON THE WAY BACK TO MA(8/3/10). THE TIRE HAS PLENTY OF TREAD AND IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE TIRE IS NOT MADE PROPERLY AND IS DEFECTIVE.
