I AM WRITING THIS AS A OWNER OF A 2015 SHASTA AIRFLITE. SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF THE TRAILER IN NOVEMBER OF 2014 THERE HAS HAD CONTINUOUS SWAYING WHILE TOWING. I HAVE FOUND THAT FOREST RIVER HAS INSTALLED COKER BRAND PASSENGER TIRES 225R/15. THERE IS LESS THAN ONE INCH OF CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE TOP OF THE TIRES AND THE WHEEL WELL. THIS IS CAUSING RUBBING OF TIRES TO THE WHEEL WELLS. THE LEAF SPRING

THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL 1,941 UNITS BUILT BASED ON THE VERY REAL POSSIBILITY OF THE TIRES RUBBING THEN CAUSING A BLOWOUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS WAS A LIMITED EDITION RUN TO CELEBRATE THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF SHASTA (NOW OWNED BY FOREST RIVER). FOREST RIVER INITIALLY SUGGESTED THAT I MIGHT NEED TO BRING THE TRAILER (WITH THE BENT AXLE) TO THEIR PLANT IN INDIANA FROM MY HOME IN NEW JERSEY; THOUGH WHEN MANAGEMENT WAS ASKED TO APPROVE THE REPAIR THE REPAIR WAS REJECTED ENTIRELY BASED ON THE AGE (32 MONTHS) OF THE VEHICLE. BASED ON MY REVIEW OF ECFR TITLE 49 I DON'T BELIEVE THEY PROPERLY CALCULATED WEIGHT OR IS DISTRIBUTION THROUGHOUT THE TRAILER. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY EQUIPPED WITH 6K POUND AXLES, ITS LABELED GVWR 14060, ITS FACTORY DRY WEIGHT IS 12570, 12720 AFTER DEALER OPTIONS. THE OWNER'S MANUAL SUPPLIED STATES THAT THE PIN WEIGHT IS 10%-15% OF THE GVWR, BUT THE LOW SIDE (10%) WOULD LEAVE 12654 ON THE AXLES; 654 POUNDS OVERLOADED AT A MINIMUM. WHILE INSPECTING THE UNDERSIDE OF MY RV I DISCOVERED WHERE THE MANUFACTURER HAD ROUTED THE ELECTRICAL WIRING AROUND THE FRAME INSTEAD OF THE OPENING IN THE FRAME THAT HAD BEEN PROVIDED, (WITH A GROMMET). WE HAD TO HAVE A GOOD SAM ROAD SERVICE MECHANIC CUT THE EXHAUST PIPE FROM AROUND THE BENT RV DRIVE SHAFT SO WE COULD LIMP HOME AT 30 MPH FROM VERO TO STUART. THE COST TO REPAIR THE RV WAS $2,269. THE SLIDES ON MY FOREST RIVER BLUE RIDGE FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER STARTED OPERATING ON THEIR OWN. IF THE SLIDES EXTEND WHILE TRAVELING THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. IF THE SLIDES RETRACT WHILE CAMPING, PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH COULD RESULT. MY CAMPER WAS STATIONARY BOTH TIMES THE HYDRAULIC MOTOR ENERGIZED. THE FIRST TIME IN MY DRIVEWAY THE SLIDES EXTENDED. THE SECOND TIME WAS WHILE I WAS CAMPING.
... THE SLIDES WERE EXTENDED AND THE MOTOR ENERGIZED TWO DAYS LATER. WHEN I NOTICED THE MOTOR WAS RUNNING AND I OPENED THE DOOR TO THE MOTOR COMPARTMENT THE MOTOR WAS SMOKING AND OOZING FLUID. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE POWER TO THE MOTOR AND THE WIRES TO THE SOLENOID. I HAD TO REPLACE THE SOLENOID, MOTOR AND COMPLETE CONTROL PANEL. THE CONTROL PANEL OPERATED FINE AFTER A NEW MOTOR AND SOLENOID WERE INSTALLED, BUT I DID NOT TRUST IT. FOREST RIVER NEEDS TO INSTALL A SHUTOFF SWITCH TO COMPLETELY SHUTOFF THE SLIDE SYSTEM TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. IN THE INTERIM, I DISCONNECT THE POWER AND THE SOLENOID.
