one of the four castle rock st205/75r14 tires mounted on my trailer blew out while driving down the highway at 55 mph. fortunately i have a dual axle trailer so the loss of one of the tires was not catastrophic. the tire that blew out was the front tire on the right side of the trailer. It looks like a belt separated and the ire blew around the circumference. I have the tire available for inspecti

With only one tire in service on that side I felt that we were in danger of having or causing an accident. Although this happened on a highway with limited shoulders we were able to stop quickly along the side of the road and install a spare. I check the tires each morning before travelling and found the pressures correct and no signs of potential failure.Read more

Multiple Tires: On highway travelling 55 - 60 mph when the tire blew on trailer. Tread went flying onto highway and damaged the underneath and side of the trailer. We checked tire pressure before we left on our short trip. Tires had minimal usage (estimated 1500 miles total). This was the worst one but on same trip another tire failed where tread separated from tire on 7/29/22. I have includ

Once we arrived home, my husband noticed another tire is warped. This is a total failure of these tires requiring all to be replaced. These tires should not be on the road. We are lucky nobody was hurt, injured or killed.Read more

I just encountered an issue that could have been disastrous with our Rpod 177 travel trailer camper. The other day I happened to pull back the bed plywood and noticed that the propane hose and also 120 wire were chewed up from two long, sharp screws that hold some of the wood together by the water pump and go through into the bed frame/panel wood. The wire and hose are held together by cable ties
... attached to to bed frame to keep it away from heater I assume but as a result hold the bundle close to the screws. The rubbing from vibrations during travel nearly cut clear through the propane hose insulation and also cut the wire insulation. Considering the hose is right next to the heater this could have easily created a massive fire if it suddenly started to leak when the heater was on. I can't believe the manufacturer would use long screws in this area; they're extremely sharp and extend nearly an inch beyond the wood. I would imagine there are many other Rpod models with the same or similar layout that might have this issue.Read more

Mine and my wifes safety was put at risk when these tires that are on a single axel blew and could have flipped the trailer or truck. I reported the incident to the dealer and brought them the tires upon return from the trip we were on. They agreed something didn't seem right. I am going to start an insurance claim this week after I file the report with you and the company. There wasn't a warning with the tires and we actually had two different people check them before the trip and both said the tires looked good.Read more

On the morning of June 11th, while traveling along Interstate 90, west of Billings, Montana, our travel trailer had a tire disintegrate within a matter of seconds. This unexpected event was alarming and placed our family in a very dangerous situation. Fortunately, we heard the tire blow and were able to pull off onto the shoulder of the interstate immediately. We assumed this was an isolated tire
... incident and continued with our family trip. Then on June 20th, while traveling through Beaver, Utah and stopping for gas at a Flying J Store, our inspection of the trailer tires revealed that the rear, driver’s side trailer tire was showing signs of uneven wear – to the extent that the steel belts within the tire were visible. Fortunately, the service station had a tire service shop that was capable of inspecting the tires and suspension system. Upon further inspection it was visibly apparent that the leaf springs were overloaded. Furthermore, the springs were deflecting in a manner that was compromising the tire alignment, which likely caused the uneven wear on the rear trailer tires. We had just traveled over treacherous mountainous roads that had very little, or no room to pull off the road. If a spring had broken or tire blown on those roads, my family could have been in a very serious and life-threatening situation. It also concerned me that we could have been sitting on the side of Interstate 15, in a remote area and over 2000 miles away from home. After further inspection we found that the axles which are rated for 3500 lbs per axle are on a travel trailer that is rated to be able to handle almost 8000 lbs. This seems to mean the axles are overloaded from the factory. I believe this is a safety issue not just for my family, but every family that uses this type of unit. I need to add that we took every precaution to not be overloaded, and we still had issues.Read more

... ed so much damage that I fear my new trailer is going to become totaled out once an insurance adjuster comes to inspect it. Without warning, this incident caused the trailer to bounce and then slam on the highway and then lose control. The sheer forces involved caused the slide out dinette to become unlocked and spill out all over the side of the highway, destroying the plywood structure of the trailers livable space on the drivers side which included the furnace, propane lines, electrical lines, and even the cable system which is needed to fully raise the pop up. While talking to the Highway DPS and the tow truck driver, they both were in agreement that either the Dealership or the Manufacturer over tightened the lug nuts. This is because 3 of the 5 lug studs were completely sheered off, so much so that they were flush with the mating surface of the hub. After looking at the rim of the wheel that was involved it looks possible that the remaining 2 lug nuts may have shattered or failed in some way from the forces that were placed on them from not having those other lug studs to distribute the weight. The trailer was towed to the dealership, where it was purchased from, and they looked at it and were heard speaking to each other that the axle looks to be bent and that the damages look to be a total loss. Part 573 - Safety Recall Report 22 V - 131 from NHTSA: "torsion bar on certain Sprinter vehicles was not bolted to the torsion bar linkage by the component supplier during front axle assembly in accordance with design specifications. The shim on the torsion bar was incorrectly installed between the nut and the t

Settling effects may occur between the journal flange and the torsion bar. These effects might reduce the bolt preload at the connection, which could increase fatigue on the journal and lead to a fatigue fracture of the journal, which could increase the risk of a crash. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will correct the position of the shim and replace the torsion bar linkage." The RV Dealer says it is a Mercedes Benz problem - Mercedes Benz says parts are not available. This is a safety issue and we cannot drive the vehicle until these safety issues/repairs are made. There is a potential for someone to be seriously hurt, or killed if they have to resort to using bottle Jack's to lift trailer. Also the suspension is very weak, and i believe could break, and cause a major accident...

Brake drum assembly and wheel fell off my RV on a smooth highway because Lippert did not install a locking cotter pin. Lippert denied the warranty claim, stating it was a bearing failure. Further, the shower drain and outdoor kitchen drains were broken and Forest River has a recall on them. The tires on the 2019 we dated 012018 and all blew out in 2021. The tires are 6-lug but the spare was a 5-lu
... g. Having blowouts and a losing a wheel at 60mph could have seriously injured or killed someone. How is that this level of crap quality is allowed?!? Lippert denied the warranty claim stating that it was bearing failure. How does a bearing failure cause a wheel and brake drum assemble to fall off? There is not bluing on the shaft so I don't see how they can claim a bearing failure. This repair cost me over $2,000Read more

Incident date: May 1, 2022
The gas line (propane) for the rear bumper mounted BBQ grill is laid on the main support rail of the chassis of the camper. The issue is there are sharp metal tapping screws the length of the support rail and the hose is rubbing on them. This could eventually cause the hose to leak propane and possibly start a fire under the trailer.

Front windshield shattered while driving down the freeway. It was not struck by a rock or debris. We didn't even hear it break (as you would if it was hit). We only discovered it after I noticed the slide-out was extending into the next lane. Apparently the wind going in the trailer was forcing out the slide-out. Luckily this was daytime and I could see it extending. Had it been at night and i
... t continued to extend this could have created a very dangerous situation. Forest River has had a problem with at least the 2020-2021 R-Pod front windows. There are many reports of similar incidents on Facebook. Forest River changed the design on later models but never recalled and repaired or replaced the previous models. I feel they should be forced to recall all the models with the glass window and replace them with the new plastic/composite version.Read more

On June 12, 2022 my husband and I were towing our 5th wheel on 99W in Salem/KeizerOregon about 4pm when a car on our left waved us down saying that we had a wobbly tire on the passenger side of the 5th wheel. We got off onto Cherry Lane and pulled over to inspect and could not readily determine the problem. We went to our final destination for the night Keizer Elks which was a mile down the road.
... It appeared the core of the rim had separated from the rest of the rim. We had Les Schwab a local tire service come over to our 5th wheel the next morning and the repair tech had never seen this before. Tire was replaced and put on a new rim. The original rim is not welded all the way around. Just spot welded. If this had broke when we were traveling at normal highway speed this would of been far more dangerous than a blowout. This needs be reported.Read more
