The drive mode was switched to Normal and Sport during the incident but it had no effect. - The Power/Charge gauge on the dash neither indicated Power when the accelerator was pressed nor indicated Charge when coasting (as would be expected for Level 2 regen) or when the brake pedal was pressed. Car Information: - The car had about 75% charge and reported about ~260 miles of range. - The manufacturers app has not reported any "DTC" codes. - The car has no open recalls at this time. - Service Campaign 997 was completed August 23rd at dealer. - Service Campaign 9A1 was completed August 23rd at dealer. He said this is a recurring problem with their engines. (A few months prior to this incident, check engine light came on and car had a slight sputter during acceleration. We took the car to local repair shop. Car received complete tune up weeks prior to incident and check engine light was resolved.) Car was taken to Kia dealership in Little Rock, AR. Diagnosis: Major oil consumption caused engine to overheat and lose pressure/fail. Engine is non-repairable. New engine will cost $10,000. Kia will not back their product. After investigating further, I have found a Facebook group with tens of thousands of people with similar incidents in their Hyundai/Kia cars. This is a dangerous problem and KIA needs to be held accountable. The most recent class action settlement DOES NOT cover engine failure due to major oil consumption, only rod bearing failure. Where is the oil going? There were no leaks detected, no oil light to warn me. Where does the oil go? Burning up through exhaust? Surely that violates some sort of environmental standard that car manufactures should be abiding by. These cars are dangerous to consumers, and bad for the environment. I’m stuck with a car that I still owe money on that is worthless. When attempting to apply brakes, the pedal sunk to the floor with no result. On subsequent attempts, the left front brake activated and locked up while there was no apparent effect on the other 3 wheels. ... ocked up and not responding to the pedal. Automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems did not activate and my vehicle collided with the one ahead. AWD seemed to activate just prior to the collision, which assisted in correcting the brake lockup. Inspection of the vehicle seems to indicate electrical issues caused a brake booster fault, and likely caused failure of the emergency braking systems to activate. These issues first appeared the day of the accident, no error messages or trouble codes were present. It appears the braking system is faulty, due to electronic controls, seemingly. The car is available for inspection. The left front rotor is scored deeply and the artifacts on the asphalt indicate that the left front tire was dragging/skidding up to the point of impact.Read more

Cylinder 1 misfire was most recent, lost of acceleration, a/c failure, burning of engine coolant. There is a recall affecting 2015 chevy vehicles that is related to a defect in the power steering system that causes similar issues, but my VIN is not part of the recall. Transmission started slipping and shuddering on vehicle with only 72,000 miles. Took to the dealer and they diagnosed the transmission fluid and torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle experienced harsh shifting since new and is a safety issue due to delayed speed, slipping, and hard shifts. Oil Pump has failed. Has taken the car to 2 different dealerships and was told the repair would be over $8,000 to repair or replace the engine. Prior to oil pump failure I had no issues in fact I had just gotten an oil change 2 weeks previously. When they check the oil pump the had oil in it however there was no flow to the engine it had low oil pressure.

... es) when slowing down to turn into a parking lot the engine revved high, no movement with the touch of the gas pedal and suddenly takes off with a jerk and a squeal of the tires. VERY SCARY. Since then I have experienced this DAILY, at least once a day. So far it is when I am going slow, either taking off and accelerating or slowing down. The engine and RPMS rev up and go high with no way of moving when touching the gas pedal then suddenly jerks and takes off with the tires squealing. I am also experiencing the transmission shifting VERY hard, mainly when slowing down. I am feeling very timid and scared to drive this vehicle...this is a seriously dangerous situation and can cause a serious accident or life! I believe this fits into the description of the GM Class Action Lawsuit filed over transmission problems. When I previously talked to the dealership they kept saying that there was no recall for the problems and to bring it in. I am not going to continue to get things fixed that do not fix this problem, as I have already. I know of a friend who has the same vehicle/year only a Tahoe and is experiencing the same problem and had work done at a dealership with no fix for their issue neither.
