That is very concerning and sounds like it's about to fail. The passenger side door failed last September 2021 to lock and could not be locked manually. The rear axle pinion nut came off and the rear axle locked up. Driveshaft dropped to the street, breaking the transfer case. Incident resulted in an immediate loss of control. ... in late 2015, Chrysler was supposed to notify owners of the defect concerning the rear axle pinion nut. I never received that notification or any other recall notice regarding my vehicle. The local Dodge dealer has told me to have my vehicle towed to them. They said the damage will be evaluated and Chrysler will determine if they should pay for the necessary repairs. I believe they should, since I was never notified of the problem with the rear axle pinion nut. The consumer stated the District Manager at the dealership refused to repair the vehicle. The reasons for not repairing the vehicle were the necessary parts couldn't be found, the recall was too long ago, and you should have brought it in for repairs earlier when the recall notice went out.Read more

On Saturday, 04/23/2022, the Dodge Durango ran fine. I was able to back out of my driveway without incident around 12:00 PM and go to Walmart. I drove to the Sheetz gas station from Walmart and topped off the fuel tank because we wanted to take a family trip during the weekend. At 12:40 PM, I arrived back home, turned off the engine, and went inside my house to pick up my son. We entered the vehic

Then I placed the vehicle in reverse, released the parking brake, and slowly backed my foot off the brake pedal. This time around, the vehicle did not drive backward normally like it's supposed to, but hesitated like it didn't have any power (NHTSA complaint 11461953). The engine hesitated several times, the RPMs dipped under 500 more than once, and then when I almost got to the street, the engine died, and the vehicle stalled. The transmission placed itself into the park position (AUTOMATIC PARK), and I could hear and feel the driveline clunk when the parking pawl locked the transmission. The "R" led started flashing on the gear shifter. I put my foot on the brake, and moved the lever from the "R" to the "N" position. The "N" position was still flashing, indicating that the vehicle is not really in "N". Then I pushed the engine start button to completely turn off the vehicle as the "RUN" led was flashing, but instead, the engine turned back on. Without taking the foot off the brake pedal I moved the shift lever from "N" to "R" and heard a loud clunk and even felt it. It sounded and felt like there was a lot of pressure on the parkin pawl and it got barely released. I am concerned that the vehicle stalling might have damaged the parking pawl somehow. I don't feel safe driving this vehicle. This is very difficult to reproduce as the vehicle exhibits this behaviour randomly, however I am concerned for my safety and my family's safety while traveling in this vehicle.Read more

I pulled up to the garage door and entirely stopped. With the foot on the brake pedal, I placed the vehicle back in reverse, and it struggled again like it didn't have any power. The RPMs dipped under 500 several times until I managed to back the vehicle out into the street. The passenger door interior handle cracked off on July 3, 2021. I was exiting the vehicle normally and did not use much force to try to open the door. The lack of an operational handle made it impossible for me as the passenger to open the door myself from the inside. What if there was an accident or the vehicle ended up in the water? ... ed. I felt very unsafe. There was no warning of imminent part failure. We ordered a replacement part on July 5th and performed the repair ourselves. The broken part was never inspected or documented. We noticed the part was offered for sale in pairs, which was disconcerting. We ordered a pair a few days later as a precaution. Within a week's time, the driver's side interior door handle also broke off. The handles appear to be shiny, silver, and metallic but in reality are incredibly cheap plastic. Both front interior door handles lasted less than 3 years under normal use. A main concern is that in the event of any emergency, in a panic, a person inside the minivan may use a lot of force to attempt to rapidly exit the vehicle. But you can't pull hard on these interior door handles because they obviously are not very strong and break easily. After the driver's side handle broke, we bought an additional replacement part so that we have a pair in reserve for the next time either one cracks and breaks. I RETRIEVED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM THE CAMPER THE TRUCK WAS HAULING AND ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. TWO MOTORISTS WITH FIRE EXTINGUISHERS STOPPED TO HELP AND THE COMBINED USE OF THREE DRY CHEMICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS WOULD NOT PUT THE FIRE OUT AND THE TRUCK AND CAMPER COMPLETELY BURNED. WHEN I REPORTED THIS TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY WE DISCOVERED AN ERROR IN THE VIN NUMBER ON MY INSURANCE POLICY. OUT OF CURIOSITY I RESEARCHED THAT VIN NUMBER AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THAT SAME STYLE TRUCK HAD ALSO BURNED. BRAKES ARE FAILING CAR WILL NOT SLOW DOWN FULLY WHEN BREAKS ARE APPLIED. THIS IS A SAFETY RISK DUE TO NEEDING TO STOP A LARGE VEHICLE TO AVOID HITTING OTHER PEOPLE'S CARS OR PERSONS. THIS CAR HAS HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED ON 4/19 AS WELL AS BRAKE FLUID REPLACED. THE ISSUE STILL STANDS WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIVE IT IS A MANUFACTURER ISSUE.
