Incident - [XXX] Car was not accelerating, started to lose power while driving on freeway approximately 70 mph, putting myself and other drivers in danger. Car finally stalled, was not turning on and AAA towed car to my local service shop - Downtown Toyota of Oakland 4145 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94611. Downtown Toyota of Oakland quoted me for diagnostic, new battery, new alternator and labor. [XXX
... ] Looked my vehicle up by VIN and discovered multiple recalls due to battery issues and electrical issues resulting in the risk of fire. [XXX] Downtown Toyota of Oakland replace battery due to failing battery test results. [XXX] Submitted Battery Reimbursement form through AAA because battery fell under warranty. Battery had been purchased through AAA on [XXX]. [XXX] My 2018 Toyota is on its third battery replacement and needing a new alternator after 5 years with under 55,000 miles. This to me, confirms my Toyota is experiencing battery/electrical issues outlined in the recalls and the costs incurred having to replace an alternator which typically get replaced on vehicles much older than mine with between 100,000 and 150,000 miles. [XXX] Take my Toyota into Downtown Toyota to be looked at because of recalls. I provided Toyota's numbers for this recall (23TB13 and 23TA13). They did not do an inspection or service because they said that they did not have a solution yet. [XXX] Recall displayed on your website for my vehicle's VIN number. [XXX] The message "No recalls are currently applicable to your vehicle" displayed through Downtown Toyota of Oakland's website under OEM Recalls section when provided my vehicle's VIN number. I am filing this complaint for two reasons: 1). Toyota is failing to remedy this safety recall on my vehicle in a timely manner. 2). Downtown Toyota of Oakland website not displaying the current recall information is misleading to consumers. On September 13, 2020, my father was driving his 2015 Ford F150, with me in the passenger seat. We were hit in a high speed head-on collision on I-55/I-240 in Memphis, TN by an oncoming driver, which killed both my father (the driver), and the oncoming vehicle driver, and I was taken to the hospital with injuries in critical condition. My father was extracted from the vehicle and taken to the mo
... rgue, but when I was able to return to the truck at the impound lot, I found no drivers side airbag in the truck. While EMTs informed me that the airbag was cut, it was odd that the airbag was not still in the truck. His cause of death was blunt force trauma, and if the airbag did deploy, it would have had to have been a part of the immediate fatality. If it did not deploy, it would also have been a factor. On the passenger side, where I had been, all airbags were still attached, but cut in order to extract me. In the days immediately following the accident, my lip was swollen from hitting the airbag, but there was also a piece of shrapnel lodged in my lip, confirmed by XRay, which later came out. I am concerned about both my father's fatality, and how the airbag deployed and what role it played in the fatality, as well as the injury of shrapnel getting embedded in my lip. I believe that the airbag could be a contributing factor in both issues.Read more

I was driving on the freeway, at the speed limit, cruising along. Then all of a sudden, my vehicle starts to decelerate from 65 MPH and I push the gas, thinking I must have let up too much on the pedal. However, that only causes the RPM to drastically rise with NO change in my speed. I thankfully managed to maneuver from the far left lane to the freeway shoulder on the far right. The whole time, m
... y speed was around 40 MPH and dropping drastically. Trying to safely navigate a slowing vehicle on a 65+ Texas freeway is an adrenaline-rush that I wouldn’t wish on anybody. I was severely panicking. I was almost hit by several vehicles in my maneuvering. I could have died last night. Once on the shoulder, I tried to start my car. I thought it may be a battery issue, but it turned on. It didn't start, though. The lights came on, as did all of the typical system/dash lights that usually indicate when a car’s engine hasn’t “turned over.” I used Bluelink to call for roadside assistance (since I’m only a little over 2 months into ownership) and waited. I was escorted off of the freeway to safety — thanks to a 3-car police escort AND free city tow trucks — and eventually picked up by Hyundai-serviced AAA. The latter then towed my vehicle to the dealership where I bought my Sonata. My car is currently being checked/inspected by my dealer (North Freeway Hyundai) and I only have gotten the following notice from Bluelink: "A possible condition with your Engine Control System has been detected with your 2023 SONATA on 02/22/2023 at 07:23 am CST. A full system check is recommended to be done soon." I checked and there are no open recalls (currently). Even more concerning, my car recently underwent complimentary maintenance, including an oil change, through my dealer (on February 13, 2023 - I have the receipt), was good on gas, and had no warning lights displaying. Until it stopped running — the time I tried to start it on the side of the road, the dash showed an “engine” light.Read more

Motor coach trip from St Louis to Austin TX 17SEP 2021. Once parked, owner noted that inside left rear tire on driver side had no tread on it. Technician indicated that because the tire did not match the other tire next to it the tire spun, not rolled, and the tread was worn off, like a pencil eraser when it is used. Technician theorized that if the outer tire had a blowout the coach possibly could have flipped, at a highway rate of speed while also towing a vehicle. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Throttle Body motor failure due to permanent magnet adhesive failure. Magnets detached from motor casing and wrapped around the armature. I have pictures and it is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Failed at highway speed, 70 mph, causing extreme dec
... eleration and almost a rear ender from following truck. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Repair shop mechanic confirmed throttle body failure and replaced it with new one. Told me this is a common occurrence on ford f450 v10s. He worked for Ford for twenty years and saw a lot of failures. Many were the sensor but also the gearing and failure due to dirty components. He didn't mention the magnets. It was difficult to move the butterflies and he said it might be the gears are damaged or worn. He didn't disassemble the throttle body but gave it to me to look at. I found the problem. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, immediately the check engine light and the orange wrench appeared when it failed. No prior indicators of a problem occurred. Here's partial report on same problem from RV site: Thor Owners Club Ford Super Duty Owner, Engine would not respond to accelerator pedal, idle was OK, fault codes P2112 and P2104.With the engine off and key off the butter flies were very stiff and difficult to move by hand. This confirmed the P2112 code, stuck throttle, and the P2104, forced idle. When I pulled the throttle servo motor cover found one of the motor magnetics had come unglued and was jamming the motor. Re-glued with two part epoxy, clean the assembly and reinstalled. Fault codes cleared. Engine ran normally.Read more

We immediately pulled off to the side of the highway. Upon inspection of the tire it appears that the cause was the
... belt separated. After inspecting the remaining tires on the trailer it looks like the tires on the rear axle are larger than the ones on the front axle. Could not find a dealer for that brand of tire. Contacted Forest River Coachmen inquiring where we might find a dealer, we were told the vendor for that tire was Hispec wheel and tire in Mishawaka Indiana, that brand of tire was not listed on their web site so we have bought 4 new tires to ensure our safety since we are about 1,500 miles from home. The pictures show that the tread separated from the belt and the inside of the tires that were replaced had bubbles on the inside of the tire. We are now out $500.00 for tires that were 3 years old with less than 5,000 miles on them.Read more
