I purchase the 2017 Santa Fe Sport in October of 2023 with just short of 80K miles. It was in great condition and had no issues. I have maintained it according to Hyundai specification and regular on schedule oil changes with recommended 5w-20 full synthetic. At approximately 100K miles, I experienced an oil pressure light on the dash, when checked, the engine was approximately 2 quarts low. F
... rom this point on, the engine started consuming oil at an increasing rate all while I maintained regular maintenance. First, 1 quart a month, or about 1200 to 1500 miles, then to 1 quart every 2 weeks or 800 miles. I maintained weekly checks on the oil level and on the evening of 3/24/2026, I had added a quart, bringing the level to the midway point between the high and low dipstick markings. On the afternoon of 3/24/26 while driving on the highway in heavy, but at speed limit, traffic on the highway, I experienced a loss of power and a check engine light. I was able to exit the highway but the car started to run very rough and unable to idle. Luckily, there was no traffic approaching when I turned off the exit and made a left into parking lot to shut off the vehicle. I will be having it towed to a dealership in the next few days for their analysis.Read more

On 2/25/26, in rush hour traffic we were driving on a NJ highway. We happened to be in the left-most of 3 lanes with a concrete divider (no shoulder – there was about 3 ft between the concrete divider and the left side of the left lane). We were about 4 car lengths behind the next car when traffic was slowing for a red light. The car indicated “Everything OK”. When I hit my brakes, they did
... not engage; they locked. The car skidded; it felt like we were on ice, but the road was clear. We were upon the car in front of us and had no place to go. I held the steering tight and tried pumping the brakes to disengage the lock. To no avail. I was planning on scraping the divider on my side to slow the car down. I steered the car into the tight space next to the divider thinking it would cause less injuries as opposed to plowing into the back of the stopped car in front of me. We slid at least 4 car lengths before traveling past 3 stopped cars in succession, I just barely missed hitting the concrete divider and/or the cars in the lane in front/beside me. On the left side, I could see that my mirror was over the divider and on right side we were within an inch or two of a hit. Realizing that I miraculously missed hitting anything, I tested the brakes going only a couple of inches and the brakes did engage. I slowly moved across the lanes to get to the right shoulder. Through all of this, the car indicated “Everything OK”. On 2/26 the car was towed to the dealership. The dealership technician and BMW representative easily replicated the brake failure. Through their testing they determined that the Integrated Brake Module, the same part that had be replaced in Nov 2025 for a recall, had failed again. Before, during, and after the incident, the car indicated “Everything OK”. After repeated requests, neither the dealership or BMW rep gave us any information about why the car failed to warn us of the problem or assurance us of its safety.Read more

The vehicle entered dealer custody in 08/2025 after a dead battery / lockout repair event and was returned by the dealer on 01/08/2026 after months in dealer custody for repair work. Before entering dealer custody, the vehicle was drivable. The dealer documented a completed road test and inspection, but the vehicle was returned in unsafe and inoperable condition. Immediately after dealer return,
... on the drive home, the vehicle shook violently and emitted a strong burning smell, requiring multiple stops. The condition was later duplicated with dealer personnel during a road test. Despite that, the dealer refused meaningful diagnostic work and later returned the vehicle by flatbed. Since that return, the front brakes appear seized/engaged. If the vehicle is placed in drive, it remains stationary. If throttle is applied, it moves only slightly while squealing as though the brakes are locked on. The vehicle is not safely drivable and has remained inoperable since 01/08/2026. This created a safety risk because the vehicle was returned for use on public roads despite violent shaking, burning odor, and what appears to be brake seizure/drag. The symptoms were reproducible and were brought to the dealer’s attention immediately. The vehicle remains available for inspection.Read more

On [XXX], at approximately 4:10 PM, I was at the McDonald’s drive-through located at [XXX] and [XXX] in Springfield, Missouri. I was stopped at the final service window. As I pulled away from the window, I approached a 90-degree left turn heading south. I removed my foot from the accelerator pedal to allow the truck to coast slowly around the corner, as the area is heavily pedestrian and require
... s caution. While coasting with my foot completely off the gas pedal, the truck suddenly and rapidly began to accelerate on its own. I immediately applied the brakes, and the unintended acceleration stopped right away. At that point, I called Thompson GMC in Springfield, Missouri, at 4:17 PM to report the incident. This was the second time this has occurred. The first incident happened several months ago on [XXX] north of Strafford, Missouri. While navigating a curve, I lifted my foot off the accelerator to coast, and the truck again experienced sudden, hard acceleration. I quickly applied the brakes, and the acceleration stopped immediately. I called Thompson GMC at that time as well. They advised me that I could bring the vehicle in for inspection, but without a check engine light or warning light illuminated, and without the issue occurring while a technician was driving, it might be difficult to diagnose. I did not bring the vehicle in after the first incident. Yesterday, a Thompson GMC employee scheduled an appointment for me to have the truck inspected. No warning lights or check engine lights were illuminated on the dashboard during either incident. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

Subject: Safety Concern – Excessive Automatic Braking (2025 Hyundai Tucson) I am reporting a safety concern regarding the automatic braking system (Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist) in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle frequently applies sudden and aggressive braking in situations where there is no immediate collision risk. This occurs during normal d
... riving and low-speed parking scenarios, including when passing nearby objects, backing out of parking spaces, or maneuvering in tight areas. The braking is abrupt enough to create a potential safety hazard, including: - Risk of being rear-ended due to unexpected deceleration - Disruption of normal traffic flow - Reduced driver confidence and control This behavior appears overly sensitive and does not align with actual collision risk in many cases. I have attempted to adjust the system settings (including warning timing), but the issue persists. Additionally, the system resets upon restarting the vehicle, preventing a consistent mitigation of the problem. I am requesting: - A review of this system behavior as a potential safety defect - A software update or calibration option to reduce braking aggressiveness - The ability to permanently adjust or disable this feature Please advise on next steps and whether this issue is known or under review. This is a safety-defect complaint regarding the Front Seat Active Head Restraint (AHR) on our 2015 Chrysler. In March 2025 the front passenger AHR SPONTANEOUSLY deployed with no collision or impact. The head restraint is now permanently dislodged and dangling from its original position. This creates an immediate safety hazard: it distracts the driver, protrudes into the front passenger seat area,
... and can cause pain or injury to front-seat passengers. This defeats the very purpose of the AHR and introduces new risks of harm. This is the exact defect NHTSA investigated in PE19-014 (inadvertent AHR deployment without crash). NHTSA closed that investigation in 2026 without a recall, citing FCA’s 10-year / Unlimited Miles warranty extension as sufficient remedy. However, FCA NEVER NOTIFIED US of the extension — even though our vehicle's VIN has been registered in our names at the same home address for ALMOST 5 years. We only discovered the warranty extension days ago through independent research. Our vehicle has extremely low mileage (59,666 miles total as of February 2026 — only 17,265 miles added in the 4.6 years of our ownership). We are the second owners and there is no history of accidents. Because we were never informed of the warranty extension, we could not request inspection or repair even though we were still within the 10-year extension when the headrest deployed. FCA customer service has now denied coverage, despite our initiating multiple phone calls and a detailed demand letter we sent in February 2026 with no response. As [XXX] and [XXX] on fixed Social Security income, we cannot afford an expensive replacement. The dangling head restraint remains an ongoing safety risk in our primary family vehicle. Please investigate this matter, particularly the failure to notify affected owners of the warranty extension that NHTSA relied upon to close PE19-014. The manufacturer’s “remedy” is ineffective if owners are never told it exists! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA),Read more

Electrical power steering assistance system. The steering wheel starts becoming difficult to smoothly turn in corners over 30-miles per hour. Steering wheel required excessive force to overcome the resistance caused by the steering system (almost like having a non-power system steering system in turns). No issues on straight roadways. No warning lamps light. Getting worse (only used for local
... travel). It requires a physical effort to turn the steering to remain on track within a curve. It has yet to be confirmed by a dealer: Williamsburg Chrysler sold me this vehicle 3-months ago as perfect (but as-is). If YOU suggest a dealership trustworthy enough to evaluate the system I will go there, otherwise I know of no dealership in my area who knows (or cares) to troubleshoot issues that are not so obvious parts are not falling off. I was followed home tonight to be told my car was pouring out gas from under the fuel pump area while I was driving. So I took a video of it pouring out under the driver back seat area and then I pulled off the back seat to find gas all on top of my brand new fuel pump. First I figured maybe the seal wasn’t on right but everything was put on correctly but yet I have no clue why there is gas everywhere especially seeing the pump is in correct. I can’t drive my car nor take my grandson anywhere with my car smelling like gas. Not understanding why my old and new fuel pump is backing up and I wouldn’t run my car on empty nor overfill. I have spent a bit of money into my car replacing things to continue to have the same problem. Major issue scared to ride in my car not knowing if it is going to catch on fire and that is my main transportation. After watching a you tube on the same issue, I learned to hit the a
